Thursday Bolts: Hop on the Hype Train
Drafting, signing, hyping
We'll be updating our Offseason Timeline and relaying the latest news, rumors, and analysis as the summer stays busy.
Bolts:
- ICYMI @ Daily Thunder: OKC drafted Aday Mara, Bennett Stirtz, and Otega Oweh (Daily Thunder), and we had mixed reactions on the podcast.
- Latif Love (Love My Takes) gives OKC an A for the Mara pick and an A+ for the Stirtz selection: "The Thunder don’t need Mara to play 30 minutes a night or become a star. They can use him for 15-20 minutes, simplify his role, let him include shots at the rim on both ends of the floor, and weaponize his passing... OKC won’t need [Stirtz] to be a primary creator. They need him to shoot, handle, make quick decisions, and punish teams when they load up on Shai. We’re going to come back to this and think: how did they get away with this?"
- Sam Vecenie and John Hollinger on the Oweh pick (The Athletic): "While I don’t think he’s a star or anything, the open spaces of the NBA floor should help him, and he has a real chance to be a rotation player if he can just shoot a bit more consistently. There are some Ajay Mitchell similarities here. I presume the Thunder will have him on a two-way given the crowded roster."
- Henry Abbott (TrueHoop) has the Thunder as a draft night winner.
