Thunder Offseason Updates
The offseason timeline is crowded from now through July 7. Check it out to see full tables of the contracts and signings that are coming together for OKC this offseason.
Here are the most relevant checkpoints for the Thunder over the next two weeks:
- Decisions on team options for Isaiah Hartenstein, Lu Dort, and Kenrich Williams are due by June 29.
- A rookie extension for Cason Wallace can be agreed on starting June 30. If an agreement isn't reached by October 19, Wallace will become a restricted free agent next summer.
- NBA headlines will be driven by the opening unrestricted free agency period from June 30 to July 6, when most deals and trades will be lined up for teams in the market. (iHart, Dort, and Kenny would all be swept into that flurry if OKC declines any of their their options for next season.)
- OKC's first summer league play starts July 4. They can cycle in and out temporary exhibition players from now throughout the summer.
15-man roster status: Over the limit
OKC traded Aaron Wiggins (still not official) then drafted two first rounders. They'll need to waive or trade at least one player before the regular season begins to fit within the league's hard roster rules.
Two-way contract status: Two out of three in place
The Thunder already have Payton Sandfort (signed to a two-year deal last season) and Josh Dix on the books. Brooks Barnhizer (played on a two-way last season, 2025 second round pick) and Otega Oweh (2026 second round pick) are the most likely to fill the remaining slot. The Exhibit 10 players below can also be converted into two-way slots before the regular season.
21-man summer roster status: Tentatively full
OKC can carry up to 21 players over the summer, including standard and two-way contrats, plus Exhibit 10 and Exhibit 9 contracts. The former is much more common, but the latter is closest to a pure training camp deal because it functions as a walk-on lottery ticket (players can see the court, but have no other ties to the team if/when they are waived). Exhibit 9 protections may be included within Exhibit 10 contracts.
- Lamar Wilkerson, Nate Johnson, and Christoph Tilly have received Exhibit 10 deals. These contracts include compensation for exhibition or regular season play. They can be waived at any time; if waived, the team retains rights to roster them in the G League rather than having to select them in the G League draft. Teams can also include bonuses for these contracts to incentivize the player to sign with them.
- Elijah Mahi, Sam Alexis, and Bryce Harris have received summer tryout slots. These slips include no real compensation but offer per diem/travel/insurance benefits to get the player to where the team needs them.
