The Thunder appeared on track to lose a close-but-competitive game at the half of this one (Pelicans led 59-54) with Zion Williamson feasting inside against the lightweight Thunder frontcourt, as Bam Adebayo had a game before. But Darius Bazley, and then Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, made known their alternative plans. Bazley opened the third quarter with a personal 11-0 run, and SGA guided the period to a strong close, finishing with 10 points of his own in the frame (Thunder went up 88-78). A Wild Moose Ace appearance (three 3-bangers from Mike Muscala in the fourth) kept OKC from falling completely apart for most of the fourth quarter while they went back down 97-87. As Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder fought to keep it close down the stretch, Steven Adams powered Nola through multiple lead changes, notching triple-double (10 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists). The game came down to made shots and free throws from SGA (21 points and 9 assists on the night) and George Hill (13 & 4) before Lu Dort DORTed New Orleans’ final, failed attempt at a game-winner.
