What about Jokic?

The Game 1 meltdown was mind boggling. But OKC also wasted the opportunity to beat Denver despite a great Nikola Jokic game. As I wrote in today's Bolts, stopping Jokic is a more urgent, difficult assignment for the Thunder than rethinking their late-game fouling strategy.

Digging Out of the Hole: Semifinals Bolts
The Oklahoma City Thunder, who have orchestrated insane comebacks all season, lost a stunning Game 1 meltdown to the Denver Nuggets at home: missed free throws, poor clock management, and failure to stop the desperation playmaking during the game’s final minutes. Down 0-1 in the series, they now lack home
OKC got the Nikola Jokic Playoff Experience in Game 1. The Thunder played with their usual intensity and aggression, forcing 7 Jokic turnovers and enforcing a physical style of play in the interior. By the end of the game, there were five fouls apiece for Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Jokic. But Jokic (who Metta World Peaced Lu Dort with a frustration flagrant in the fourth) beat them up on the whole, feasting for 42 points and 22 rebounds.

Prediction: OKC 122 DEN 110

The Thunder were ahead handily for almost the entire second half, without strong home-court performances from Jalen Williams (5-20 FGA) and several shooters (JDub, Chet, and Isaiah Joe went 2-16 from three, combined). They should still win this game, and they should still win this series.
