Video: Russell Westbrook’s absurd block

February 7th, 2012

This should be getting more attention today because a) it saved the game for Oklahoma City and b) it was completely, totally ridiculous. Look at Russell Westbrook’s elevation. Look at his body control. Look at how he swipes perfectly at the ball and doesn’t foul.

Westbrook does a lot of absurd things in a basketball games — for better and for worse — but these type of plays are what tell you the story about him. He’s always going full out, always ready and willing to make that extra play.

The strange thing though? Evidently this wasn’t ruled a block as the official box score has Westbrook with zero for the game.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Coach Russell

February 4th, 2012

Happy Saturday. Thank you for your support of DT. Shine on you crazy diamonds.

Russell Westbrook filmed a new BancFirst commercial a couple of weeks ago at Edmond North High School and here’s the results. It’s an ad that’s supposed to show teamwork for BancFirst, but when you hear “We’re proving that teamwork, commitment and loyalty can go a long way,” it makes you wonder if the Thunder actually wrote that copy. And I know what you’re thinking. When the kid (who is Jordan McCabe, from YouTube fame), says he learned to play from Westbrook, it’s no coincidence he appeared to be a shoot first kind of guy.

Video: Kid Clutch is BIG

January 31st, 2012

The NBA released a couple new commercials today, including one featuring Kevin Durant. And I must say, bravo NBA. You’ve done it again. But then again, put KD doing anything where he drills a jumper and I would say it’s the best thing I’ve seen since the last KD commercial where he hits a jumper. You could tell me Francis Ford Coppola directed this and I would believe you.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Uncle Jeff goes bank

January 28th, 2012

Good Saturday. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Embrace the weekend.

The Thunder picked up a nice win at Golden State last night and every time Oklahoma City visits the Bay, it reminds me of a great moment in Thunder history — the first buzzer beater. Uncle Jeff has moved on and things are different now, but this is always going to be one of my favorite Thunder memories. Mainly because it seriously shocked the crap out of me that it happened.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Scott Brooks is a man of the people

January 14th, 2012

Happy weekend everyone. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Have a good couple days off?

When I peruse YouTube looking for a worthy Saturday Morning Cartoon, I come across a lot of dumb and random videos. This is definitely one of those. Some kid in Australia evidently was a big Scott Brooks fan so he wanted his autograph. That’s all I know. Well that, and Brooks probably would’ve preferred that his embarrassing two hand wave to the camera wouldn’t have come have come to haunt him 18 years later.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Nick Collison does a cartwheel

January 7th, 2012

Good Saturday. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back…

Here’s who the 1999 McDonald’s All-American dunk contest featured: Carlos Boozer, Jay Williams, Jonathan Bender, Damien Wilkins, Donnell Harvey and Nick Collison. Yes, Nick Collison, the guy whose only dunk is the straight-up-and-down-don’t-pull-on-the-rim move. What does Collison have in store for us? How about a cartwheel dunk? Whitest. Dunk. Ever.

View from the crowd: Kevin Durant’s game-winner against Dallas

December 30th, 2011

Via my good buddy Michael

Kevin Durant’s game-winner was a beautiful thing. One of those moments whether you were at home or fortunate enough to be in the arena, you want to relive over and over again.

Nothing will capture that moment of instant jubilation like being there, but videos from inside the arena do a pretty good job I think. Here are a few good ones. Read more…

Saturday Morning Cartoons: KD loves Russ

December 24th, 2011

Happy season Thunderers. Thank you for your support of DT. Thunder up, and such and such.

Ahmad Rashad, who was as much of my basketball childhood as Michael Jordan was because of “Inside Stuff,” has a new sit-down show with NBA players. There’s a little teaser out and in it, KD talks about how close the Thunder were last season and attempts to clarify, for the millionth time, how he feels about Russell Westbrook.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Intrasquad

December 17th, 2011

Good Saturday. Thank you for your support of DT. They’re playin’ bas-ket-ballllllll.

Last night’s intrasquad scrimmage was pretty good. Perk looked awesome, Russell Westbrook had the jets firing on all engines and KD showed a little post game. Nothing too much to take from it by any means, but it was definitely good to see the boys in blue back on the floor. Via @probeeCTS, here’s a little video from the scrimmage.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Lockout King

December 10th, 2011

Happy insanity everybody. Thank you for your support of DT. Shine on.

KD was the lockout winner. We know it. Everyone knows it. But nothing says it like a mixtape featuring all his top moments, dunks, plays and highlights. One that didn’t make this cut that cannot be forgotten came in KD’s first trip to the Drew League this summer where he ooped off the backboard to himself. Never forget.

One thing about this video that really stands out to me: KD just looks so comfortable playing hoops. Not that he doesn’t in a Thunder uniform, but there’s a certain vibe, a certain swag to him in these. The handles, the hesitation dribbles, the fancy dunks — I want all of that this season in Oklahoma City. All of it.

Video: KD intercepts a pass, goes 108 yards for a TD, salsas

December 1st, 2011

If you missed it last night, KD took on LeBron in a flag football game in which Team LeBron won 70-63. Durant finished the game with a handful of receptions, which included a TD, but also had this 108-yard pick six, complete with a little salsa dance on the end of it.

It was a kind of fun game to watch, and no one was injured, which is great. And watch KD’s long legs cover five yards with each step as he galloped 108 yards was pretty fun.
