Potential letdown game? Maybe. And if it happens, so be it. But I expect a win. I’m convinced this team is good. It’s still young and nonsense losses are sure to happen, but regardless of that, every game against a sub-.500 squad should be a win. Until of course the Thunder loses three or four of these and I go back to being scared like Indiana Jones in a snake pit before each game. Read more…

Thunder 108 Bucks 90. Two games over .500 Baybeee!

November 28th, 2009

Just to uphold tradition, the Thunder won their 9th game last season in GAME 43 on January 21st. How refreshing to win our 9th game in just 17 contests this season. Box Score.

RoyceWe all know that ESPN decided to pick up this contest tonight because rookie Brandon Jennings is the big story so far this year. Ok, well, I guess the Thunder are “sort of” interesting being over .500 and all, with the second youngest roster in the NBA, and the top 5 scorer in the league, and a butt load of top 5 picks and yada yada yada. Whatever. It was all about Brandon Jennings and his 55 points the other night.

Mr. Jennings, I know you are sort of a rookie phenom, but I’d like to introduce you to one of last years rookie phenoms: Mr Westbrook!

Russell Westbrook is a carnivore! 20 points on 6/15 shooting; 7/8 from the line. 6 boards, 7 assists and only 2 turns and 1 personal foul while showing the rook a little something about playing point in the NBA. Hello young fella.  Jennings in the mean time went 3/11 from the field (12 points), 1 board, 3 assists and 3 steals in 29 minutes. It was sublime to see RW dominate. But this game was about so much more than this little matchup. This game to me was about efficient offense and solid defense.

The Thunder repeatedly got to the rim and the Bucks jacked up jumpshots. Plain and simple. How nice to see some OTHER  team fall into the trap of settling for jumpers. We are usually the guilty ones. Tonight the Thunder got to the rim and got to the line and as basketball fans we know that one thing usually leads to another. The Thunder attempted 35 free thow attempts and the Bucks attempted only 22. The Thunder also dominated a slender and skinny Bucks front line to the tune of  a +12 rebounding advantage. Hellllllo America! Just like we thought, the Thunder has gotten picked up for a nationally televised game and as a result, the franchise and those close to it are going berserk over it. And rightfully so. This is a big one for this team. It’s a good chance to get people on the Kevin Durant bandwagon early this year. Get people talking about Russell Westbrook’s improvement. Maybe alert people to James Harden’s complete game. And most of all, show everyone this isn’t your 2008-09 Thunder team. It’s new and very much improved. Read more…

Well it’s been a long time. Opened the season with these guys and now the third to last game. And with that much space between, things change. A lot.

There’s just five players on OKC’s roster that are still receiving playing from that Oct. 29th game. Milwaukee’s starting lineup has been shifted around, Andrew Bogut is hurt and so is Michael Redd. So it’s kind of sort of hard to use the last meeting as any sort of barometer.

One thing that did happen in that first game was that the Bucks abused OKC on the inside. They outrebounded the Thunder 43-35 and they scored over half their points in the paint. I actually remember thinking after that game, “Man Chris Wilcox needs more playing time. He’s the only guy that did anything.” Because that’s true. He led OKC with 13, Kevin Durant had just 12 and just four Thunders were in double-figures. It was just a bad game. Read more…
