Report: OKC to waive Kyle Weaver

July 27th, 2010

We all knew this was likely coming and as Marc Spears of Yahoo! reports, Kyle Weaver will be waived before August 1. After that day, his contract would become guaranteed. Spears also notes that Maccabi has already offered Weaver a deal.

It’s a shame for Weaver who definitely has some skill. But he just never found a spot for the Thunder. They wanted him to hit 3s. He didn’t. They wanted him to be the third point guard. He couldn’t. They wanted him to defend and score. He could defend but couldn’t score.

When Royal Ivey was signed the writing was on the wall. Best of luck to Weaver who is an intelligent basketball player who is always making smart plays. He just never could quite figure out how to contribute to this Thunder roster.

Harden out 2-4 weeks with hamstring injury, Weaver recalled

March 12th, 2010

Bummer. James Harden will miss 2-4 weeks with a right hamstring injury, after he tweaked it against the Hornets Wednesday night going to the rim in the second quarter.

The good news for Oklahoma City though is Kyle Weaver is healthy and has been recalled after a very productive stint in Tulsa. Obviously, this is fortuitous timing. Weaver appeared in five games with the 66ers, averaging 12.4 points, 7.2 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks in 42.6 minutes per contest. He’s an admirable replacement for Harden and I’m honestly a little excited to get a look at him.

It’s slightly terrifying that Harden is out. His contributions are pretty underrated. To have a guy come off the bench with the ability to score 10 points in a few minutes is something extremely valuable. Kyle Weaver will do a nice job in his steed, but there’s a reason Harden was the third overall pick last year.

Kyle Weaver is the best player in the NBA

December 16th, 2009

Well, at least according to John Hollinger’s player efficiency ratings.

Kyle Weaver PER1

One of these is not like the others… can you find it? Now, in Hollinger’s defense, his real rankings and not projected rankings don’t have Weaver anywhere near the top 50. That’s because Weaver has not played near enough to actually qualify. Maybe there was a bug in Hollinger’s formula that let Weaver slip through here. But who cares, right now Weaver is the best of the best. Someone needs to clip this and send it to Mr. and Mrs. Weaver for their refrigerator. Weaver’s future grandchildren don’t have to know he’d only played in three games.

But you know what? Anytime you sit on top of LeBron, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan and Chris Bosh, you’re doing something right. Even if you’ve only played 30 minutes total this season.
