All-Star Game open thread and live diary

February 14th, 2010

Wrapping up a fun weekend by having the best basketball players in the universe play five-on-five is a pretty good way to put a cap on All-Star Weekend 2010. Let me tell you, this is going to be nuts. Usher is performing, Cowboys Stadium is absolutely insane and just the entire atmosphere is pretty special. And the fact Kevin Durant is playing in this game and is probably one of the biggest stories is just gravy.

I’ll be updating from Jerry’s World as much as possible. So hang around, chat about the game, talk about the huge Mavs-Wizards deal or the potential trade sending Amare Stoudemire to Cleveland.

7:06 PM CST: Before we do anything, admire me on the front page of ESPN.com (guy on the right). No I do not have a black eye and no I didn’t not put on an absurd amount of mascara. Just the usual amount. Read more…

For real now, Kevin Durant is an All-Star

January 28th, 2010

It’s official. Kevin Durant is in. Down your cider KD, you deserve it. I don’t know why this is so exciting, but I feel like we just put away some kind of trophy. It honestly just feels important for some reason.

Not to pull out the sappy card, but this is Oklahoma City’s first All-Star and everybody will be watching the game. And to know we have representation with our star, well, it just means a lot. This is just the first in what will surely be many, many more All-Star appearances, but I just think the first is kind of the most special.

Anyway, KD joined the TNT crew after the announcement and here’s a few of his comments: Read more…

Kevin Durant has 100,000 fewer All-Star votes than Tracy McGrady

December 11th, 2009

And McGrady hasn’t played professional basketball in a year. (link)Dallas All-Star Game

Now I know fan votes are messed up. This isn’t the first time these type of stupid issues have come up. Just last summer baseball saw a similar issue with Manny Ramirez. Heck, Ken Griffey Jr. still gets a TON of All-Star votes.

But doesn’t this really illustrate how this is kind of a flawed system? All-Star games are something we use to judge and evaluate player’s careers. And to a further degree, All-Star starting positions as well. And you’ve got one guy that is third in the league in scoring and is turning into a possible MVP candidate trailing another guy that is averaging 0.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, 0.0 apg in 0.0 minutes per game by a full 100,000 votes. HOW STUPID IS THAT?

Again, I realize that’s just life with the fan vote. But that doesn’t make it any less ridiculous.

Durant, Green and Westbrook all on 2010 All-Star ballot

November 10th, 2009

Per a release:

Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant, forward Jeff Green and guard Russell Westbrook all appeared on the 2010 NBA All-Star Ballot that was unveiled today during a special tip-off event in Dallas, the Official Host City of NBA All-Star 2010.

There are several ways Thunder fans can cast their votes for Durant, Green and Westbrook.  Voting will take place at all Thunder home contests at the Ford Center beginning this Sunday, November 15 vs. L.A. Clippers all the way through Oklahoma City’s matchup with Indiana on January 9. The Thunder trio can also be voted in via online balloting at thunder.nba.com which begins immediately and will conclude on January 18.

For the first time in balloting history, fans can vote for All-Stars any time by texting a player’s last name to 6-9-6-2-2 (“MYNBA”), via Web2Go® on T-Mobile phones or wap.nba.com for any wireless carrier. Fans can cast one SMS vote per day, per phone number.

Votevotevotevote. Or you know what happens to you. KD can already probably punch his ticket, but it would be nice to get a second player there. Rise together (see what I did there?) and let’s get our players to Dallas.
