Thursday Bolts – 2.9.12

LeBron responding to Perk: “I can see why he may have felt embarrassed. I don’t think I was the only one that reacted to that unbelievable play by Blake, and that’s what it was all about, me acknowledging how great of a play it was. If Kendrick Perkins had dunked on somebody else on the other end, I would have done the same thing … From day one, that’s why I got to Twitter, to connect to my fans.I would never apologize for anything like that when I’m connecting with my fans.”

Sam Amick of SI.com on James Harden’s All-Star bid: “But with Kevin Durant already voted in as a starter and Westbrook seeming to be a lock as a reserve, Harden’s All-Star inclusion would be a declaration of the Thunder’s dominance more than anything. Only the most elite of teams are typically granted three or more All-Star spots: The Celtics have been among that group each of the last three years, while the Heat (2011), Pistons (2008) and Suns (2007) are the only others in the last five years. The Thunder had two for the first time last season in Durant and Westbrook.”

HoopIdea.

Henry Abbott’s first batch of ideas to better crunchtime: “Another idea: I’m also suddenly livid every time I see a team call a timeout to earn the right to inbound the ball from midcourt. That’s a rule that rewards a coach for stopping play, even if he doesn’t want to stop play. Why not let teams inbound from midcourt in the final two minutes whether they call a timeout or not? Bolder yet, why not let them move the ball only if they don’t call a timeout?”

Jack Dickey of Deadspin on Perk’s LeBron slam: “It’s unsurprising that Perkins has a grandfatherly demeanor, grousing about all of these look-at-me young’ns on Twitter, but he probably shouldn’t be taking on LeBron, especially this long after the fact. He seems like one who trips and falls and then blames a bystander who couldn’t suppress a chuckle.”

KD is No. 2 in ESPN.com’s MVP Watch.

The evolution of Daequan Cook.

Ziller on All-Star reserves: “That’s a fascinating concept, and that we’re more likely to apply to, say, international basketball. (Well, Team USA and Spain at least.) That would explain why Rajon Rondo didn’t fit in with the 2010 FIBA Worlds team: in our model, he’d be the CP3 of the ideal team and the “blurry” Derrick Rose would have been with Kevin Durant, Westbrook, Andre Iguodala and Danny Granger as indistinguishable “All-Star role players.” In other words, Coach K might actually test our theory were he an NBA All-Star Game coach.”

i was having a conversation with a sonics fans and he say that you will cry when your team gets taken out of OKC and i was like um not going to happen our mayor and even our governor attend the game and also its brings alot of money to the city

ask him how he feels about Seattle "stealing" the sacramento kings. That's the team they're trying to get in Seattle. After all their whining about OKC " stealing" their team, they're gonna "steal" someone elses. hypocrisy at it's highest. LOL

Excellent article about the Evolution of "All Dae"quan Cook. Him being able to fill in for Thabo has been pretty awesome to watch. He's not the defensive stopper Thabo is, but he's serviceable and his outside shot does space the floor incredibly well for RW and KD.

Is it possible that AD's performance makes Thabo dispensable? If he could be close to Thabo on the defensive end and still provide ~45% 3-point shooting, imagine the impact that could have.

I just wanted to point out that I suggested the same idea in Henry Abbot's article, about awarding free throws after time has expired, several weeks ago in the comments of this blog.

So in a very Jim Traber like move, I'm going to give it up to myself. Kudos to me.

When the Heat come to OKC, we should all hold LeBron down and let Perk posterize him, that would be pretty funny...

Me too, remember last year at home, Thunder fans cheered him in the introductions, by the end of the first quarter, they were booing him because he was acting like a jerk. Did anyone see at the end of the game, Blake walked over to the Thunder bench and yelled F you to our players, I saw it with my own eyes. I have disliked Griffin since then. He's a bad sport and a sore loser.

PowerSerge 30 pts

PNT I think DeMarcus Cousins may be on this list after tonight. He will do something stupid, count on it...

Ok, so I got the formula and did the math, and in fact Brooks will coach the west, even without the "Riley rule" being enforced on Popps.

Congrats, Brooks! Pick Harden for an injurty replacement!

f5alcon 1020 pts

Ozarkhick who is injured that he would replace?

Ozarkhick 239 pts

f5alcon Depends on the reserves, or if Kobe or Paul sit for it due to the compressed season and lower durability of those guys?

tydude 441 pts

Ozarkhick NBA will not allowed Popps to coach the team so Brooks will be it

Ozarkhick 239 pts

tydude The repeat coach rule won't even come into play. They will be behind no matter what.

Also, I forgot the commish picks replacements. I just got it in my head since Doc had all those guys from his team last year.

I want him to fulfill Brian Davis' dream of Thabo being an All-Star

Nice find on the DC article, was a good read.

that's funny coming from Lebron, amateur dunked on him and he had the video confiscated, anyone remember? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4315071

ThunderChick2010 1891 pts

I read in this morning's paper that Sefolosha is back any day now. Is today any day?

f5alcon 1020 pts

ThunderChick2010 hopefully, last saturday they said 4-5 days, so that should be tonight, but who knows, not that it really matters too much cousins is the toughest matchup for us.

tydude 441 pts

f5alconThunderChick2010

SEFOLOSHA SET TO RETURN ‘ANY DAY'

Guard Thabo Sefolosha, who has missed the past six games with a foot injury, said he could rejoin the lineup “any day.”

Sefolosha ruled out Thursday's game at Sacramento but said it's possible he could return Friday at Utah. It seems likely that the Thunder's coaching and medical staffs might opt to give Sefolosha two more games off so that he can rest over the weekend and prepare for a return next Tuesday at home against Utah.

tydude I wonder if they will limit his minutes when he comes back and keep starting cook and only use thabo in late game situations.

PNT 109 pts

ThunderChick2010 I would wait until valentines day.

Ozarkhick 239 pts

Nope, we can't be caught in the standings by cutoff date even if we were to lose out and the spurs were to win out.

Looks like Spo and Collins can still catch Thibs in the East, but pretty unlikely.

Here's another tidbit : ESPN's league standings shows us 1/2 game behind Chicago, despite our record being 20-5, while theirs is 22-6. How do they calculate "Games Behind" to wind up with us being 1/2 game back?

This comment has been deleted
Ozarkhick 239 pts

f5alcon But our winning percentage is .800 and they have played 3 more games than us. With average performance we would win 2-3 of those?

I guess I'm just not understanding where GB is derived from.

f5alcon 1020 pts

Ozarkhick yeah we probably will win the games, but theirs are already in the books, it doesnt really matter once we play the same number of games.

f5alcon 1020 pts

Ozarkhick they have 3 more games played, 2 more wins and 1 more loss we play tonight though so that should fix it.

CDSpark 224 pts

Ozarkhick

Its a pretty simple formula, you subtract their wins from your wins, subtract your losses from their losses, add them together divide by 2

Ozarkhick 239 pts

CDSpark yeah, I just looked it up. so basically it's about who is more games over .500

moriarty84 18 pts

Ozarkhick Simple formula... Win differential + loss differential / 2 = games back. So the Thunder are 2 behind in the win column and 1 ahead in the loss. So 1/2 = 0.5 games back.

Eggs_Benedict 9 pts

I doubt anyone is missing the point, but I don't remember anyone specifically mentioning it: One of the most ridiculous (read: ironic) things about Lebron's tweet is that he/Nike covered up the video of the high schooler dunking on him. I think it looks a little bad when Lebron's camp covered up that dunk, and he's tweeting about how others dunk "so hard." The only thing Lebron is about is his image, and I'm tired of it.

C_Dub 1092 pts

Eggs_Benedict yet he was real quick to release that video of him dunking on some 5-8 Chinese dude over the summer.

BRY BRY 252 pts

I love how the Mosgovification of Perkins is no longer about Blake Griffin at all..... Vintage Lebron to find a way to make it all about Lebron again. And Vintage ESPN giving him what he wanted: attention.

I know ESPN is just basing coverage on ratings and what sells, but it's just really getting tiresome.

Ozarkhick 239 pts

Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks to me like Brooks is locked in as the All Star coach now.

The cutoff date for the all star game coach decision is Feb 14th, and it is based on record.

We are 3 games up on San Antonio, we are playing 3 games prior to the 14th, and the Spurs only play 2.

Is this correct?

anonymous12345 343 pts

Ozarkhick

I also think there is a rule against a coach being in the game 2 years in a row, which would eliminate Pop as well.

Ozarkhick 239 pts

anonymous12345 So that would mean it is already a lock?

f5alcon 1020 pts

Ozarkhickanonymous12345 yeah that should mean that

tydude 441 pts

f5alconOzarkhickanonymous12345 yep its correct a coach can't coach back to back all stars so Spurs will be out of the question so its down to Us and Clippers

f5alcon 1020 pts

tydudeOzarkhickanonymous12345 clippers cant catch us by the cutoff date.

in the east spoelstra is probably the coach because bulls had it last year, but 76ers possible could pas miami for 2nd seed.

tydude 441 pts

f5alconOzarkhickanonymous12345 no Doc Rivers was the head coach i look it up so Chicago will be the head coach if Chicago is number 1 by tuesday night

f5alcon 1020 pts

tydude oh ok, yeah i dont seem them losing #1 they play bobcats tonight

C_Dub 1092 pts

f5alcontydude lol, I can't believe either Brooks or Del Negro will be ASG coaches.

f5alcon 1020 pts

C_Dubtydude they are actually perfect for the all star game, it isnt like they need to run real plays for the ASG

Ozarkhick 239 pts

C_Dub f5alcon tydude Clipps can't catch us. If we lose out and they win out, we'll still be 1 game over them in the standings.

tydude 441 pts

C_Dubf5alcon Del Negro won't be a coach the reason why is Clippers has 3 games left and they are 4 games behind of us

Barry Amenema 515 pts

f5alconC_Dubtydude the biggest decision they make is who plays how much....like Pop did last year by giving Spurs players the most minutes.

RodneyRosavelRusanWilson 613 pts

I could see harden making it as an injury replacement if brooks is coach

tydude 441 pts

RodneyRosavelRusanWilson if any reserves is injury
