Saturday Morning Cartoons: Uncle Jeff goes bank

Good Saturday. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Embrace the weekend.

The Thunder picked up a nice win at Golden State last night and every time Oklahoma City visits the Bay, it reminds me of a great moment in Thunder history — the first buzzer beater. Uncle Jeff has moved on and things are different now, but this is always going to be one of my favorite Thunder memories. Mainly because it seriously shocked the crap out of me that it happened.

Look @ that five: Watson, Westbrook, Durant, Green, Krstic.

Awesome. Also, a Robert Swift sighting!

I remember where I was when I watched this. Probably my first Thunder-gasm. As far as Season #1, this moment sticks out + a blowout victory @ Utah when the team "turned it on" after Christmas.

How far we've come in 3 short years.

THUNDERCATS 19 pts

thunder should draft solomon hill

JimboSlice 198 pts

THUNDERCATS no thanks. He's not a bad player, but he'll probably go undrafted pretty easily. Physically, he's actually very similar to Lazar Hayward (ew..) except he can't shoot (not that Lazar has shown the ability in the NBA, but in college he was heralded as a solid spot up shooter). Thick but undersized and underathletic small forward with tweener skills doesn't translate well to the nba

lost of interesting WC match ups tomorrow... Lakers Wolves, who are 9th & 11th place... dallas and the spurs both have the same record... and denver and the clippers are 2nd and 3rd place... im rooting for a clippers win to put more distance between us and denver, but i want it to come in triple overtime so theyll be tired when we play them monday

thunderstruck87 75 pts

Any word if azubukie has recovered from his correction surgery? Would be a nice guy to have even if for just a practice man... Better than reid and lazar

C_Dub 150 pts

thunderstruck87 then we'd have our Resident Okie that we have sorely missed for a couple of years :P

RodneyRosavelRusanWilson 390 pts

so during the wizards bobcats recap on NBATV one of the commentators said he was offended as a big man that mullens was letting his point guard grab rebounds over him... I was actually thinking the same thing as I watched the highlight before he said it... his motor is his biggest problem

Cool - thanks. Who did that?

OBoymuzik 143 pts

PlusMinusGod this will make me not as angry over the next few games when serge drops passes thrown his way or pump fakes instead of taking an open jumper

Old Man Game 192 pts

PlusMinusGod Awesome find. Thanks for posting. I wonder if his younger brother is still playing and progressing? Maybe we could pull a Memphis and let one big man brother go only to draft the younger brother?

The_Beard_Knows 39 pts

Cole currently has the 6th highest PER among centers (though unqualified b/c of a lack of minutes): http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistic...

PlusMinusGod 145 pts

The_Beard_Knows Time for Darnell to start pushing those start Cole articles

Jo_Cro 7 pts

The_Beard_Knows Quick. Have Presti tell Otis Smith have Aldrich-Howard is a fair one-up trade.

RodneyRosavelRusanWilson 390 pts

wow the nicks and the nets have the same record now

OkcBaby 171 pts

Presti might not even use the player exemption money. Jackson is probably the one player in the rotation in the minus category. That wont cut it come playoff time. Could be insurance money for backup pg or other positions. Some nice players still overseas. Interesting though

Crownme 23 pts

OkcBaby

An exemption to spend means to spend money you have to come up with. Permission to spend aside, is it smart right now?

OkcBaby 171 pts

Crownme right, which means extra money we didnt have to spend. Maybe it could be used for a trade of some sort for a vet. But its still premature to go there. Still interesting. I look at it as insurance money just in case come playoff time.

This & the dunk @ Atlanta (on Smith) will always come to mind when I think of Jeff Green.

Way to go, 22. I can't wait until he's on the floor in OKC during some future game. I hope we start a good UNCLE JEFF chant.

RodneyRosavelRusanWilson 390 pts

D@nny wow... that made me miss that man

JimboSlice 198 pts

D@nny I was at that Atlanta game. Awesome moment indeed

TaoMaas 58 pts

Uncle Jeff hit several shots like this for the Thunder. I miss that. Also...after seeing Nate hit a long 3 to end the quarter, I was reminded when Maynor used to do that with a fair degree of regularity for the Thunder.

SammyThunderer 759 pts

How does what happened to Biedrins happen to any NBA player? After shooting 32% from the line last year, he's actively avoided any contact at all on the offensive end. He's taken 4 foul shots this year in 247 minutes and missed all of them. He looks terrified of drawing contact and doesn't even look to catch the ball on the PnR, despite teammates looking for him.

C_Dub 150 pts

Ahhh I remember this moment well. Maybe I'm spoiled but I can hardly believe we cheered on a team that: 1) didn't start Westbrook 2) played Robert Swift.

PowerSerge 15 pts

I just saw that the Thunder were granted an injured player exemption worth about $880,000.00 to sign a temporary replacement for Maynor! I wonder if Presti has anyone in mind? I think Heinrich (sp?) is a free agent, and is almost ready to return from injury.

SammyThunderer 759 pts

PowerSerge I'd rather keep playing and developing Jackson, but if we do sign somebody, Hinrich would be great.

SammyThunderer 759 pts

PowerSerge Wait, Hinrich is still with the Hawks. He played yesterday.

dancassidy35 58 pts

SammyThundererPowerSerge Would love Hinrich if we could get him

courtsense 299 pts

dancassidy35SammyThundererPowerSerge Huh? Kirk Hinrich is not a free agent - he's in the last year of a deal paying him about $8 million this year.

Crownme 23 pts

SammyThundererPowerSerge

Yeah man, It isn;t like really Jackson's fault we had to throw him in the fire, but it will be good for him man.

OBoymuzik 143 pts

PowerSerge i'd just like to get someone that can either score or make plays for insurance, cook is extremely streaky and harden somewhat, if westbrook has an off game in the playoffs and cook and harden don't show up who's going to step up, Nazr? Lazar?

SammyThunderer 759 pts

OBoymuzik Shooters are prone to streaks. That's just the nature of being a shooter. Also, FWIW, I think Harden has been our second most reliable player.

OBoymuzik 143 pts

SammyThunderer it's tough they've both had their share of poor games this year to me when westbrooks off he plays like an all-star having a bad game, might shoot too much but still attacking, harden plays like a different player and tends to give up when having an off night or not getting calls

hopefully we'll be fine with the roster we have now for a championship run, but I don't think it would hurt to bring someone else in

PowerSerge 15 pts

OBoymuzikSammyThunderer We have the exemption, we might as well use it, even if the guy never sees any real playing time.

Crownme 23 pts

OBoymuzikPowerSerge

Lazar is outa here, maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but give me a break.

ATH 14 pts

PowerSerge Craig Smith would have been a perfect acquisition in December. I've always wanted a frontcourt bench scorer like Rhino, Landry, Booker, or even DJ White (though he has sucked on the boards). Smith is rebounding better than usual, limiting his turnovers and scoring a bunch of unassisted baskets this year. No way Portland deals him to OKC, however. oh well

PowerSerge 15 pts

ATH JR Smith? Landry Fields? When do they get back from China?

ILikePancakes 237 pts

PowerSerge JR Smith is a great talent but horrible knucklehead. I don't want to see him on our roster.

OBoymuzik 143 pts

PowerSergeATH landry fields plays for the knicks, the china players get back sometime in march....theres JR, Aaron Brooks, Wilson Chandler(most likely signing to nuggets) and Kenyon Martin

OBoymuzik 143 pts

ILikePancakesPowerSerge I would much rather have a knucklehead like OJ Mayo or even Beasley, JR is too far gone

PowerSerge 15 pts

OBoymuzikATH Oh yeah, I always get Landry Fields and Wilson Chandler mixed up...

RodneyRosavelRusanWilson 390 pts

PowerSergeOBoymuzikATH id love to pick up aaron brooks

PlusMinusGod 145 pts

RodneyRosavelRusanWilsonPowerSergeOBoymuzikATH Aaron Brooks would be great for a playoff run on a 1 year deal. Also, in regard to Reggie, he needs to find his 3 pt shot. He had pretty good range in college but I'm not confident any of his shots are going in right now except for his floater

SammyThunderer 759 pts

Why isn't Royce White considered a draft prospect? He's got size, athleticism, great numbers, huge assist numbers and he just outplayed Thomas Robinson. I haven't watched him at all... anyone know anything about this kid?

The_Beard_Knows 39 pts

SammyThunderer largely because of this (what i've heard around the big 12 anyways): http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_...

SammyThunderer 759 pts

The_Beard_Knows I saw that. So he'll take some babysitting. It does seem like he's a genuinely good kid. Seems sensible to take a flyer in the late first for that kind of talent.

JimboSlice 198 pts

SammyThundererThe_Beard_Knows agreed. It's a relatively humongous flyer, but if we can wait 30 years for Pleiss to come over or take Byron Mullens, whose issue was not working hard (which i feel is worse than legal issues and/ or other mental problems), then we can dang sure take a run at this guy. He's frikkin ridiculous

JimboSlice 198 pts

SammyThundererThe_Beard_Knows and really, I think his fight against the anxiety issues shows some pretty solid character. In the right environment (ie Loud City), we could be looking at the steal of the century. I mean dude's not even ranked in a lot of people's top 100 and is 47 in the sophomore class. Getting him in the late second would be awesome
