Friday Bolts – 12.2.11

KD tweeted this to someone last night after all the hubbub over Chris Paul: “I’m gonna be in Okc until they don’t want me anymore! Don’t worry about it.”

Cole Aldrich was the only Thunder player to show up at the facility yesterday. John Rohde of NewsOK tries to locate everyone: “Nick Collison: Getting a haircut. Whereabouts unknown. Nazr Mohammed: Worked out at Legacy Fit in Miami. Eric Maynor: “In a great mood” after a workout. Plans to return to Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Daequan Cook: Revealed he has not shaved in at least one month. #NoShaveNovember.”

Darnell Mayberry on KD taking exception to some ESPN First Take criticism: “Durant took exception to their criticism, specifically Douglas’ and fired back at the former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowler. “These guys on first n take kill me, lol smh especially hugh Douglas, who is the dude? I thought that was emmit smith on tv just now,” Durant wrote. Durant has since deleted the message, as well as a series of subsequent related tweets after ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith got involved. “My man, nobody’s stopping you from showing up. The platform is yours if you want it. Why tweet when you can stand up and show up,” Smith responded. Durant replied that he wasn’t “ducking” anyone and would travel to the Bristol, Conn., studio to appear on the show if invited. Smith then wrote, “Assuming this is really Kevin Durant, tell me who you want to debate (and) what day? I’ll personally set it up.”

Good analysis on the new Derrick Rose Rule.

Amnesty updates: OKC still not cutting anyone.

John Hollinger of ESPN breaking down CP3 trades on OKC being a player: “Not happening. Move along. Nothing to see here.”

Officially, the Thunder will host the Magic in OKC on Christmas Day at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Interesting column over on the Magic's Truehoop site about the "what if" of dumping everything in exchange for CP3 in an attempt to get, and keep, both. That would completely change the way I feel about an opening day game against them. Although I still think we'd win, it would sure be a heckuva lot more entertaining.

Kind of cool looking at ESPN's breakdown of likely amnesty action. I didn't look down the list for players to pick up though, instead I jumped down to make sure Perk wasn't on for the Thunder possibles.

There has been some talk about the teams from the East that might not being playing in OKC this season. But, which teams from the East would it be better for the Thunder if they skipped that road trip? Boston? Chicago?

DXL 30 pts

Miami might be in trouble in free agency. Even if they amnesty Miller they will only have the $5 million mid-level. The top centers, Nene, Gasol and Chandler, all sign for 10 million plus. Dalembert now hints he'll likely go to one of the numerous teams with more cap space than the midlevel. Who's the next best free agent center? Chuck Hayes? Kwame Brown?

And their other need, point guard, there's almost no one in the market. Barea's probably the best. After him, Earl Watson? Miami will be lucky to re-sign Chalmers for $3 million a year.

Too many team with too much cap space chasing too few good players.

Steve H 30 pts

Just had a holy crap moment reading that G-State was looking to acquire CP3 and T. Chandler. They might actually be able to pull that off. Hornets not likely to get much better offer than Ellis and Lee for Paul. Offer stupid $ to land Tyson. Amnesty Biedrins and make a serious offer for D. West- Chris would have a hard time walking away from that roster.

JimboSlice 198 pts

Steve H that'd be an interesting team. Rumor was that CP3 was interested in the clippers, which would be heckuva squad with his addition as well. While they couldn't offer the Hornets quite what Golden State could, a Chris Paul led team with Gordon, Griffin, and Jordan would really be tough to beat (minus Vinny Del Negro of course)

Steve H 30 pts

JimboSlice That Clippers line up is scary, but I think they would have to include Gordon in any deal to land CP3.

Loud City Jimmy 10 pts

Steve HJimboSlice Gordon or Jordan for sure...

sammasaaron 60 pts

Loud City Jimmy Yeah, there's a Hollinger article on possible Howard and Paul trade scenarios, and he has the Clips giving up Jordan in pretty much all their offers, but not willing to deal Gordon. Of course, giving up Jordan just makes sense for their offer for Howard.

C_Dub 150 pts

sammasaaronLoud City Jimmy Are you kidding me? You absolutely give up E-Gordon every time in a deal for CP3. You think Boston wanted to give up a budding Al Jefferson for KG? In hindsight, it was a good move but at the time, Jefferson was on the verge of being an All Star not to mention he was much much younger. But in this scenario, you give up Eric Gordon, while a nice player, Chris Paul is in the upper echelon of NBA talent and production, you gotta give up something up. Remember New York gutted half their team to get Carmello, you do what you have to do to get superstars.

JimboSlice 198 pts

C_DubsammasaaronLoud City Jimmy Well.. the Melo trade in hindsight may end up having being a pretty crappy idea. But I can see both sides. Yes, Gordon isn't one of those "don't trade at all costs" players, but I could see the clips being very reticent of making that trade based on the goal to get Paul in there and begin winning immediately. Gordon would be a big piece of making the CP3 transition work right away.

Jax Raging Bile Duct 135 pts

Steve H David West, Tyson Chandler and CP3 in Golden State? Might as well sign Rasual Butler and Desmond Mason and call yourself the Golden State OKC Hornets circa 2007 Warriors.

SammyThunderer 759 pts

Steve H If no one offers better than Ellis + Lee for Paul, then NBA teams have got some serious player evaluation problems. Clips should offer some combo of Gordon/Jordan/Aminu/Bledsoe. They could do worse than gutting their team for a Paul/Griffin core and proceeding from there.

Thunderbeard 8 pts

Dang, got christmas plans already in place. Looks like I'll be watching this one with family. I doubt I can persuade them to come down for the game.

Mike Miller has sports hernia surgery on Sunday and the Heat are now strongly considering using their amnesty clause on him. Wouldn't he be a great pickup for the Thunder's bench to backup KD and provide some nice 3 pt shooting?

JimboSlice 198 pts

SergeIblaka He'd have to come extremely cheap. He didn't shoot anywhere near as well as D Cook, although most of his other numbers were better and he's bigger. For the right price he could be serviceable, but I just wonder about where his minutes will come from.

thunder_mike 14 pts

SergeIblaka Sorry but no thanks. I know its probably pre-mature to say, but Mike Miller is done. He was good for a few years, but all the injuries have not only hurt his physical game, but he's definitely shot mentally, not to mention getting older.

D Cook is a better option as a backup to Durant because he just shoots and he knows it. If he doesn't have the shot, he'll move the ball. Mike Miller pre-injuries used to be a (less talented) Harden type. And that would be a problem since we'd have Harden and sometimes Westbrook on the floor with him. I'd save all my money up for Battier. I know he's older but lets be honest, he's a more athletic version of Nick Collison, and he wants to win. Who wouldn't want that?

Olajuwon87 9 pts

Daequan is younger and doesn't have a history of injuries so he'll be much more effective than Miller for the price he'll demand. If we finally start Harden instead of Thabo at the 2 Thabo can move to the 3 behind KD on the bench since he's tall and athletic enough for the position. Daequan can then move back to the 2 on the bench which is his natural position. Otherwise pairing up Reggie Jackson with Maynor as the bench backcourt could also be an interesting experiment. Kind of disappointed. Was looking forward to an opening night against Memphis. However I will gladly accept us delivering an opening night beatdown on the fiasco of a team the Magic look to be coming into this year

dancassidy35 58 pts

JimboSlice I like this because it'll show us the exact reason why we picked up Perk

anonymous12345 87 pts

dancassidy35JimboSlice Can't wait to wash away memories of when they absolutely destroyed the thunder right after the trade and there was noone on the roster that could come close to guarding Howard

dancassidy35 58 pts

anonymous12345JimboSlice I loved seeing Collison work his ass off though trying to. I need to get a Nick Collison jersey

ElMexiThunder 7 pts

anonymous12345 dancassidy35 JimboSlice i remember there was a point in time where we even had to put KD on him because Ibaka was in foul trouble and Collison was too tired. Funny thing is they didnt blow us out until the final five minutes we kept coming back and even got as close as 4i points from them.

Loud City Jimmy 10 pts

JimboSlice also excited just to have the Magic coming to OKC, since there are 6 teams from the east that won't be at the Peake this year...does make it a little less likely that we will be seeing the Heat in OKC though.

Loud City Jimmy 10 pts

Jax Raging Bile Duct Six teams from the east will not make trips to OKC under the new schedule. You have to figure that they will split up the marquee teams. I would guess we will get no more than 3 of MIA, ORL, NYK, BOS, & CHI...and since we are getting ORL, it just limits the odds of us getting MIA as well. I would love to get all of these teams, but I just think it is unlikely.

The magic roster will probably look much different, Will probably trying to figure rotations and how to incorporate the players. Our biggest choice will be harden or thabo starting.

Olajuwon87 9 pts

As much as I like Thabo's D and energy, I think Harden should get the starting job. It'll help the Thunder's offense and help Harden reach his potential with more playing time. As for bench scoring, I'm thinking Presti drafted Reggie Jackson to take over that load from Harden.f5alcon

Hermit 13 pts

Olajuwon87f5alcon In the playoffs, Harden got 31 minutes to Thabo's 20 minutes. It does not matter who starts the game.

http://espn.go.com/nba/team/stats/_/name/okc/oklah...

As for RJ, we all hope that he can provide some offense, the team needs more offense other than KD and RW, but till we see it and we know it will be there consistently, RJ should not be a factor.
