Report: Boston offered Rondo and Green for Perk and Westbrook

Do you like random old trade rumors? What if I told you it was pretty funny? OK, here it is, via Chris Broussard of ESPN.com:

After last season’s playoffs, the Celtics offered Rondo and Jeff Green to Oklahoma City for Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins, sources have told Broussard. The Celtics, looking for another scorer who can create his own offense, thought Westbrook might be available after his erractic postseason play. But Oklahoma was not interested in the deal.

Basically, this is Danny Ainge calling Sam Presti and saying, “Hey, I’ve still got the receipt on Jeff Green. Any way I could return him?”

And then Presti probably had a good laugh. And then he hung up.

I try to stay out of the personnel convo's here (which is uncharacteristic of this self-admitted loud mouth) because this is a) a team I just don't know much about and b) all of you know a ton about the Thunder, but I gotta say, ANY trade deal with Rajon Rondo involved would perk my ears up...but there's nt way I'd give up Perkins and Westbrook in this deal. Honestly, I don't think there's anybody else on the Celtics roster that I'd give up Perkins and Westbrook for in return for Rondo and that player to be named.

JMattHicks I would rather have westbrook than rondo. I think way to many people overvalue rondo. He kills the Celtics in the last 5 minutes or so because opponents just play off him clog the lanes and dare him to shoot from distance. He's a really good passer, rebounder and defender but not so much better than westbrook at those things it makes up for his shooting problems.

Just for fun, how would you rate the following players packages:

Rondo, Green, late first rounders.

Bynum, Odom, late first rounders.

Westbrook, Perkins, late first rounders.

Lopez, possibly an earlier first, but more likely late firsts if Deron and Dwight team up.

Keith00 I'd have to go...

1. Westbrook, Perkins

2. Bynum, Odom

3. Rondo, Green

4. Lopez + 1st

Jax Raging Bile DuctKeith00 Jax, I think you're spot on. I might swap Bynum and Odum with Westbrook and Perkins if Perkins, despite the supposedly healthier knee, doesn't provide more than he did last season.

Jooseppi 154 pts

ou_sasJax Raging Bile DuctKeith00 I agree. Bynum's young and big, which drives NBA GMs into a sexual frenzy.

Keith00 Russ,Perk≈Bynum,Odom,>Rondo, Green>Lopez + 1st.

If Bynum is healthy that is a better package than Russ and Perk

shikiKeith00 Does Odom's age not factor into this? I would think that the age of Russ and Perk would make them more attractive, assuming Perkins is back to his old form.

We should Trade Nate for Green and have green come off the bench like he should have always done..... not as a PF though!!

Closest thing to a scoring PG that he will get from OKC

I would rather turn around and off this same package for Dwight.

This gave me a good laugh on the way to work this morning. How does he start that phone call?

"so, what's you're return policy like?"

I agree with Hermit. This might be his way of decreasing Jeff's Value.

i will laugh if he trade Rondo and then Paul says he wants to stay in New orleans who will be they PG now

Ainge now wants to trade Rondo to the Pacers according to Yahoo. His goal is apparently to aquire enough pieces to trade for CP3.

Jax Raging Bile Duct 135 pts

anonymous1234 I think Ainge should just bite the bullet and shed all of his expiring contracts this year and start over. Garnett, Allen, O'Neal and Green are all in the final year of their deals. They're a bare bones team right now, needing at least 5 more free agents to fill his roster out. It's playing with fire to sign Garnett and Allen to deals past this year. Might as well shed those guys Sam Presti style and start over again.

ESPN Insider Rumors........

Paul kills Boston trade talk10:35AM ETChris Paul | HornetsTopEmailComments

Well all the talk about Chris Paul and the potential of a trade to the Boston Celtics can officially end.

ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reports Paul won't sign an extension, which can only be for one season due to the new collective bargaining agreement, if he were traded to Beantown.

Paul has complete control over his future because he can become a free agent in the summer and no team is going to trade for him unless he signs an extension.

Would Ainge want to get this out, in order to drive down Green's value, thus make him easier to sign ? I gotta think that other GM's do their own thinking, but it does not say much for Ainge's opinion of Green.

Man, I really hope Uncle Jeff finds his way into really-effective 6th-manning this year. I want him to do well, and i was hoping that Boston would be a good niche him for him, and maybe it still will be (though I feel like JG really could have benefited from a long season & training camp with Boston. Too bad).

Go Green!!

TempBoy Brandon 95 pts

D@nny Agreed. I still like me some Jeff Green and really do hope for the best for him. I'm also hoping we'll get Boston at home this season so we can give him a warm welcome back.

TempBoy Brandon 95 pts

Wow, that would be horrible. Russ is better than Rondo, Perk is better than Green.

shiki 67 pts

Ainge had said to Red that he would trade Bird because he was aged.Maybe he will waive KG or Pierce tomorrow.

When Sam Presti laughs, all of Oklahoma City laughs with him.
