Saturday Morning Cartoons: Basketball Never Stops

Good day Thunder. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Sad faces all around.

Nike put out a new commercial to go with the “Basketball Never Stops” campaign. And while basketball might not ever stop, evidently the NBA does. But the new ad is pretty slick. KD’s part is playing hoops at the Goodman League. Wish it was The Peake, but whatever.

I really like that the amnesty clause could bring a good wing scorer with low salary to OKC. A guy like Maggette or Marvin Williams would be awesome.

@diddoff

Yeah, that makes sense. So again, sucks for us, unless Perk sucks in the next couple of years and we amnesty him.

(And on all players that were aquired during the old CBA.)

"The only other option I can think of is Presti trading for a player with a bad contract, hoping that the player will work out for us, and if not, using the amnesty on him."

I'm not sure but I think the amnesty clause can only be used on players aquired via draft or free agency.

I just read that the new CBA will contain an amnesty clause, which is essentially a "Get out of jail free" card for all teams to rid themselves of one bad contract and not count that against the salary cap.

That really sucks for us because Presti has done such a good job NOT signing anyone to a bad contract. The only person I can think of who he might use it on is Kendrick Perkins, if he has changed his mind about Perk after last year's playoffs.

The good thing about the amnesty clause is it's good for the length of the CBA, so if Perk isn't working out 1-2 years down the road, we can cut him then.

The only other option I can think of is Presti trading for a player with a bad contract, hoping that the player will work out for us, and if not, using the amnesty on him.

Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated:
"Amnesty clause: Each team will be able to waive one player with a previously existing contract without it counting against the salary cap, but it will be available only once per team during the life of the new CBA. While the player will still be paid his full salary, this would allow teams to get rid of a contract that is weighing them down.

Teams will want to use this sooner rather than later since it cannot be used on new contracts that are signed. It can be used during any year of the player's deal, but must be announced at the start of the season."
