Today would be the Thunder’s media day and the start of training camps. Thinking about that makes me immensely sad, especially considering there’s a meeting going down in New York that could determine if we’ll have a season at all.
Michael Kimball of The Oklahoman with an incredibly interesting look at what a lost season does to OKC’s economy: “And it’s important to note the arena still can bring in revenue for the city’s economy even without a Thunder season, Anderson said. Officials will be able to fill some of the dates that would be left open with concerts and other events, and the renovations might help the city lure events that skipped the area in the past. City officials have had preliminary discussions on what budget maneuvering would be required if the NBA season is canceled but haven’t yet studied it in depth, Dowler said. The largest impact would likely be an increased subsidy for the arena, but by how much isn’t yet known, and it would not likely cause many problems within the city’s $920 million budget for fiscal year 2012.” Read more…
Kevin Durant led the way with 48 points in Chris Paul’s charity game in Winston Salem, North Carolina Saturday night. He was joined by LeBron, Dwyane Wade, CP3, John Wall, Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry, Rudy Gay, Carmelo Anthony and a few other NBAers.
And during it, rocked a few nasty dunks including an Eastbay, a between-the-legs and a fairly ridiculous oop from Stephen Curry.
After the game, KD tweeted: “be on the lookout for a game in OKC in mid October! You know I couldn’t leave loud city out the mix!” But don’t root for that to happen though. Because that only goes down if the lockout’s still in place.
Morning Thunderers. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. One, two, three… season!
In KD’s newest 35th Hour, he tackles all the “controversies” that have popped up this summer. Tattoos, team hats, razzing OU and whatever else.
KD summed it up pretty simply about rooting against OU. “I went to Texas and OU’s like our biggest rival and I want OU to lose.” What’s the big deal with that? On wearing a Bulls hat, basically, KD just said he wore it because it looked good. And the tattoos, well, he explains them all. Note: The “W” is NOT for Wisconsin.
You may have asked why KD hasn’t inked his arms. Some saw it for business purposes, but KD said his mom told him not to, and we all know KD does what Wanda says. He also said that he’s saving his arms for a future wife and kids. All together now: Aww.
The lesson here: If you’re complaining about KD’s tattoos, him ripping on OU or him wearing a Bulls hat, you should feel a little stupid right now.
KD gave us all a nice parting gift too. “I’m OKC until they don’t want me no more man. I want to be there the rest of my career. Point blank.” As long as he says stuff like that, he could wear a Texas football helmet in public for all I care.
