KD’s one of the stars going to NY for labor meeting Friday

By all appearances, there’s reason for optimism on the NBA lockout front. Owners are hedging a bit on their demand for a hard cap, players are pulling back on the BRI split. And best of all? They’re talking. A lot. Two meetings already this week with another Friday and potentially more over the weekend.

And as you see, some heavy hitters are making the trip for Friday’s meeting. Big name players as well as somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 owners. It’s a big, big day in terms of NBA negotiations. If you’re on the side of optimism, you might see it as a chance to push ahead to a deal. If you not, then you might see it as the league and players doing their best to save face with fans by giving the appearance of trying to strike a deal.

Either way, talking is much better than not.

With Stern threatening to cancel the entire season if things don't go well this weekend, I'm less than optimistic. That kind of rhetoric doesn't exactly scream "we're ready to negotiate in good faith".

Lebron Durant Kobe D12 are going to look at their respective owners and say- "so you personally are in favor of rolling back the salary of the existing contract I signed with you? You are voting to reduce my salary?" Hard question to answer face to face with the face of your franchise... the division among the owners will work in the players favor... If one owner, say the owner of the lakers, isnt for rollbacks, and another owner, say the owner of the Magic, is for salary reduction, how much do to chances of D12 going to LA improve?

"Really, we're actually going to do this? We're actually going to flush the season and possibly the league's popularity for the next several years to a decade down the toilet over this bullshit?"

I hope someone says something to that effect.

It's a good sign, but I think a lot will depend on whether they meet again over the weekend. If they come out of Friday's meeting and say they'll meet again Saturday and/or Sunday, I think that would be a very good sign. If they come out and don't talk about meeting again over the weekend, we're probably looking at regular season games getting cancelled, at the least. So let's hope for a working weekend in the world of the NBA.

I'll believe it when I see it.

If those 3 show up they'll have Past, Present and Future stars well represented.
