KD dominated the Melo-Goodman game

If there was ever a place to be for a Thunder fan Tuesday night, it was in Baltimore for the Melo-Goodman game that featured Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, LeBron James, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony.

It pretty much came down to this: KD’s team lost 149-141, but Durant, with LeBron checking him, dropped 59 points, pretty much holding his team in the game by himself.

Michael Lee of the Washington Post was there and his Twitter feed is darn near orgasmic. A sampling:

LeBron finished with 32 (some say 42), Melo 27. Yeah your team won, but KD stole the show. Which in that setting, almost counts for more.

KD’s night at Rucker generated more buzz and while 66 is indeed more than 59, this is way more impressive. It was 59 with maybe the league’s best defender checking him all night. It was 59 while KD was trying to carry his overmatched squad against a group of superstars. And how sick was KD’s handle in that second clip? Holy Durantula.

Lesson here: If this stupid lockout costs me chances to see KD do this in real games, I’m going to have to pull a gaynor into an empty pool.

@TaoMaas
I like that Selby kid as well.

I like KD's highlights in this video. He was creating his own shot, not just dunking in the open. Plus, I've said it before, but gawd, I hope Josh Selby doesn't make us regret not drafting him.

The ESPN3 commentator for the Spain-Poland game is terrible.

I hope the shooting gets better in this tournament. 19% and 16% for Spain and Poland respectively from 3-point is absolutely horrible. It made the game really sloppy and unimpressive.

Ibaka gets 7pts and 1 rebs in his first game in Europecup

Durant had this to say after the game:

"Everyone is talking about how many points I scored tonight, but basketball is about winning and my team came up short...still had fun though!"

The quote seems like a humble brag (http://twitter.com/#!/humblebrag), and it's almost like he always tries to say the right thing to make people like him, but you know with him it's genuine and just KD being KD.

LeBron was 'defending' him. There's no real defense in these things.

@ Danny

I think the commentator was confused too. He was ready to talk Durant and he kept getting fed boring, wide open Lebron dunks.

KD is un-freakin stoppable!! I know Royce, picked LBJ as the best in the NBA, but in da HOOD/STREETS KD rules the court!!

once again. Kevin Durant is my president. whoa. I hope so much to see him, Russ, JH, and Serge grow this year. man i hope we all get to.

Too bad CP3 didn't play on Durant's team. I would've liked to see if they had any chemistry together.

Daniel Hawaii :59 points?!? Against LeBron??? O.M.G.

Don't get too excited. I doubt Lebron tried that hard... just like the finals.

proving kenny smith right that durant is the best player.

@ Danny
Dude. Seriously. ESPN wake the F up. 95% of the country didn't celebrate when Dallas won the championship because we were all diehard mavs fans or really found Dirk or J Kidd's quest to be some inspiring story.

Okay, so KD scored 59 on LeBron. Cool.

BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT LEBRON IS AWESOME AND DUNKED IT A WHOLE BUNCH OF TIMES??! I LOVE LEBRON!!! THX ESPN, OMG.

I miss me some Thunder basketball =(

Uh, what the hell is with the ESPN highlight on this page? It's just the Lebron-apalooza. You might assume the guy who scored over 50 would get more than just a token mention.

The Hot Hand :I found a live stream of the game and KD just destroyed LeBron, if anything about KD’s game has improved, its just handling and explosiveness. His cross-overs just made Lebron and other look silly

I hope that his new crossover is transferable to the NBA... in other words, I'm hoping it won't be called a "carry" in the NBA.

If anyone finds a link to a replay of this game.. Let me in on it.. Got a Durant dolphin shirt as a prize

NBA players have often played in these sorts of summer exhibition games but KD is the only NBA player that I can recall actually growing his reputation (even his "brand") from them like this. When your play forces the broader sports journalism world (as opposed to nba beat writers/bloggers) to pay attention to these meaningless exhibitions, you are special.
