Friday Bolts – 7.1.11

The NBA may be locked out, but life goes on. No games have been lost yet. We’re just not enjoying free agency right now, which isn’t that big of a deal. Don’t panic until September. Business as usual… for now.

KD played one-on-one with Reggie Jackson yesterday: “We played one-one and he was guarding me. He kind of spaced me a little bit but still was up into me as a defender. That’s rare,” said Durant, whose jump shot is hardly ever tightly contested coming from his lanky 6-9 frame. “His arms are very long and he’s very athletic. He covers ground quick. Most guys coming into this league go 100 miles an hour, especially guards. But he has a great pace to his game and I think he’s going to help us out.”

The 40 worst things about the NBA season.

KD talking about the lockout, his camp and a lot of other stuff.

Life is going to change for players, writes Sam Amick of SI.com: “The awkward exchanges will ensue in the coming weeks, as players are sure to bend the rules if only because of habit. As a result, executives and coaches will find themselves hitting “ignore” on any and all cellphone calls that aren’t identifiable while others will have to hang up quickly for fear that their phone records might become evidence. The list of off-court deeds that are done for players is often long, with team officials collaborating with agents to provide a support system that will no longer be in place. No more free carwashes or help with that speeding ticket you forgot to handle. No more free lunch — both literally and figuratively. And as noted by veteran center Brad Miller recently when he revealed that he recently had microfracture surgery on his left knee, even rehabilitation must be handled elsewhere.”

NBA.com underwent a transformation last night. Quite a visual sign of the lockout.

The lockout will impact downtown OKC: “Carrier admits an exact dollar ammount of not opening the Oklahoma City Arena for Thunder games is hard to calculate. Spending will almost certainly be diverted away from Bricktown to other parts of the city and there will be a loss. “People will still go out to eat and find other things to do for relaxation and enjoyment, but they won’t spend as much,” Carrier said.”

LeBron’s next great PR trick? Dunking over a small child.

If we are talking about The Wire, then it needs to be said that the very first scene of the very first episode was the best of the entire series. If you haven't watched the show, please do--pay close attention to that scene, and what is said. If you have seen the whole show, watch the scene again; tell me it isn't the best moment. Before you know any characters, before there is any drama or the story is developed, there is one thing:
"If snot boogie always stole the money, why'd you let him play?"
"Got to--this America, man."

...and hooked

@ sammasaaron
yep thats what happens to me. like its doing it for the friday bolts, but not the Lockout FAQ thing..sigh.

@ dragonbug
I have the same problem and I use Chrome at work (haven't paid attention at home, I have a Mac and use Safari there). It always seems to happen when I go to view comments. I'll be looking at the regular front page but when I try to view comments sometimes it does the mobile version thingy. Annoying.

@ Jax Raging Bile Duct
but i like my google chrome browser lol

@dragonbug

Try switching browsers.

seriously what is with this random MOBILE theme Daily thunder thing. im on a desktop and its so annoying, always seems to appear when i DONT want it. I click the button at the bottom to go back to the regular theme but it doesnt do anything. Anyone else experiencing this random annoying problem too?

@ anonymous
Dammit, now I'm gonna have to watch The Wire before I come back here to avoid spoilers. Wait, why am I upset about this?

so I think we're all in agreement: DT becomes a The Wire blog until the lockout ends

@gokc
Agreed. For me, it goes: 3,1,4,2,5.

every season of the wire was excellent, but two and five are my least favorite

@kfmsooner
The Wire really is incredible. Here are the greatest scenes of the show in my mind, in no order, just off the top of my head:

*"Where's Wallace?!"
*Omar and Brother Mouzone's faceoff in the alley
*Bunk lays into Omar about his influence on kids (Omar with an epic spit)
*"Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit"
*McNulty and Bunk's "F"'d up crime scene
*Stringer Bell's demise
*Bodie's demise
*Avon and Stringer's faceoff

Lebron should play like that in the playoffs not on little kids

@ kfmsooner
Oh yeah true dat. Season four was excellent. When Michael went over to the dark side after Partlow took him to get his first kill...epic film making. (I know it was a series but it was really more akin to a movie in scope and production level.)

@Thomas
The only part about the ending that disappointed me was that they didn't really tell us what happened with McNulty and what kind of job he took, unless I missed it.

Season 2 was excellent, but season 4 and the school kids was my favorite. Loved what they did with Prezbo...

This was talked about yesterday and Darnell Mayberry wrote and article about it on NewsOK. Serge is in the rap video twice at the 3:08 and 3:17 mark.

Spotted KD and his posse this morning at the Apple store here in Austin.

@ kfmsooner
You weren't a tad disappointed in the ending? I thought it was great but for me the high point was the second season storyline with the dock workers.

I know that I wouldn't be watching basketball today anyway, but today still feels particularly empty.

I don't want to miss games.

@ williamjb

What the heck?

I mean, that is actually him, isn't it? What's he doing there?

This is random but watch this video and tell me this isn't Serge at 3:18

Since there is no basketball to talk about...I just finished watching The Wire in its entirety. Took me about 2 months, but, man, what a show. It's hard to get my head around what they did with that show. After Seinfeld, the best series I have ever watched, right ahead of Band of Brothers. Truly spectacular...
