Big news: Kendrick Perkins doesn’t like Tyson Chandler

Tom Pennington/NBAE/Getty Images

It only took a couple minutes for Kendrick Perkins to scuffle with his new adversary, Tyson Chandler. The two tangled (or tuggled, right KJ?) in the first quarter, both picking up technical fouls.

Perk has always said he preps himself mentally by thinking of reasons to hate his opponent. Evidently he hasn’t had to do much thinking with Chandler. Because Perk flat out doesn’t like him. Via ESPN Dallas:

“Me and Tyson never got along. I’m serious,” said Perkins. “He don’t like me, I don’t like him and that’s pretty much how it’s been. Everybody always looks at me as kind of like a dirty player if you’re on the opposite team, but he’s just as dirty as anybody else.”

Chandler said he has no issue with Perk.

“I have nothing against him,” Chandler said of Perkins. “He won a championship with the Boston Celtics, and that’s where I’m trying to take my team. I mean, I’ve got respect for him, what he was able to accomplish. But all the chippy stuff, the after-the-ball stuff, that’s all nonsense and I’m not going to get involved with it.”

As Russ Bengtson tweeted, the bigger news would probably be if Perk DID like Chandler.

Perk does need to keep it in check though. He has four technical fouls this postseason and three more and he has to serve a one-game suspension. With each game this Dallas series goes, the more chances Perk with scuffle with Chandler. Because if Perk don’t like you, he’s going to let you know about it.

if the league recinded Chandler’s T and doesn’t elevate the Dirk foul on KD I would be pissed…
They don't give flagrant 1's to shoulder bumps like that in the playoffs. I can't think of one example. Just "not going for the ball" is not enough in the postseason. They probably should be, though I think KD flopped it up a little.

Skeletor :Barkely, like most Mavs fans, thinks Dirk is God

Dude, give him a break! The media have been incredibly critical of him for years now, saying he can't lead a team, saying pau gasol is better than him, etc. They just swept the Lakers and if OKC had won the other night, it would have been KD getting all the accolades.

Chad Ford has us taking Nikola Mirotic for that reason.

I haven't paid attention to Chad Ford yet - still in playoff mode.

Crow mentioned that Mirotic may pull out, and I don't know a thing about him, but I still like the idea of a eurostash.

@Jax Raging Bile Duct

Afflollmao.

@Twistdov

Afflalo would have been our 3rd best player this year.

Bryan :Ibaka is going to tear it up tonight. Based on media reports, he took that schooling personally and is using it as a chance to learn from one of the greats. He says he learned a lot and is determined to show it.

I hope so. I hope he keeps dirk off that spot.

Some really bad ideas in this free agent wish-list. Afflalo? Kenyon Martin?? Battier? Grant Hill? WTF. Two of those guys are washed up and the other two are the type of punks we definitely don't need (not to mention those guys are a dime-a-dozen)

The teeth-gnashing about Sefolosha is just mind-boggling.

@gr8ball83
They need their coverage to fit the narrative. Just like how RW's triple double in game 7 didn't fit the narrative that RW and KD are fighting for shots and can't figure out how to play together, so they barely mentioned it.

Man, you have to admire ESPN's persistence when it comes to media bias. This morning they showed a graphic of the fewest FGA to score 40 in a playoff game, talking about how incredible Dirk's performance was. Wouldn't you know, they show 2 guys who took 18 FGA to score 40 points (exactly what KD did) and didn't put KD's performance on the graphic.

I like Shiki's idea of a eurostash. Unless Presti can find a way to consolidate some of our talent, we don't have room to develop another player.

Anyone else getting sick of the Dallas bench talk? Terry and Barrea are their second and third best scorers right now so their bench scoring is going to be very good. Should we start bringing Westbrook off the bench so we can say we have great bench scoring? That talk is dumb IMO. Why don't they talk about our starter scoring being better?

Blake Griffin said on the Dan Patrick show he thought the Mavs would win the West and that he wasn't rooting for anyone in the playoffs. Come on, Blake. We all know you're secretly rooting for the Thunder. Just say it out loud

@Skeletor

hes a great player, no doubt, but by the mere coverage of their, you would have thought Dirk scored 50 and KD 22. 24 trips to the line is a feat that requires alot of help from the refs, its not all Dirks doing. Most of Dirks points came form 2 places, about 5 feet outside of the paint to the right of the basket and the free throw line. Remember after game one with Memphis, Zach appeared unstoppable and thats how the media presented it.

Barkely, like most Mavs fans, thinks Dirk is God

Daniel Plainview :@Thomas

Yeah I know but he picked Dallas to win the series and even went so far as to say it would be short series.

@Vince

Selby does seem like a possible future talent play over the stats. I'd prefer others if they stay at the 24th pick but if they moved down maybe they could justify picking him.

I like N Smith better than Selby. And if they moved on from Maynor someday I'd probably prefer a vet over a young guy.

I'd probably prefer a tweener forward, if one they like is still around.

@Daniel Plainview

I dunno if Cole could be used as a backup PF. Maybe against the heavier guys. Mullens might be faster of foot. Maybe they get to play some next year but it could vary from modest time to almost none again. It definitely seems like a earn it philosophy with them, fill a role well or you don't play, rather than being given time for development sake as the first reason.

Never mind, that was the Latavioius Williams trade.

Do we have a 2nd round pick? If not, what happened to it?

@justin

I think we try to replacement Daequan in the draft. Even if we can resign him for cheap, there isn't a lot of upside there. Pretty sure we know what type of player he's going to be.

3P shooting is typically the easiest skill to find later in the draft (Daequan was drafted 21st). Maybe we get lucky and find a guy with some potential. If not, we have another 3P specialist.

I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Selby from KU if he falls that far. He's obviously talented, and I think a year in the Thunder organization with some fellow Jayhawks might set him up to replace Maynor in 2012-13. You might as well take a risk.

On the converse, I think Singler from Duke would be a good fit. He's gone to us in a couple of "mocks" I've seen.

@Thomas

Hes defended RW in the past, hes not part of the conspirators

anonymous :
Is Grant Hill attainable? I would love to replace Thabo with him. I would have less of a problem with Harden coming off the bench if it was Hill in front of him. He fits the character mold of the team. I know he loves the suns organization but maybe he’ll feel the urge to have one last run at a title before he throws it in.

eh. Hill clearly has a "special" relationship with Rick Welts. he's not going anywhere.

That's Omer Asik, the 36th overall pick in the 2008 draft. (Contributors are out there just gotta look and gotta get lucky).

Man, I couldn't believe it, Charles sounded mildly positive about us a when they were talking about our game.

Omer Asik was really really good defensively. I hope Cole can become half of what he is in a year or 2 on D.

@Sammy

Yeah I see the logic there.

justin :
Reggie Jackson or Nolan Smith could be interesting.

This is what I've been saying. Would allow Harden to move to the starting lineup and potentially give us a scorer off the bench to replace his minutes. Could potentially give us a nice option to fill Maynor's role once some other team decides to overpay him.

Daniel Plainview :@Crow

Can Cole be used as a back up PF? I think once he learns our schemes and assignements he can totally out rebound and out block Perk, so he should at least be serviceable as a back up.

Still, I thin we should throw our money at Chandler, Afflalo, a SF/Sg combo player with defense and range. Or Gasol, however, i have a little faith that Gasol is available. DOuglas Roberts would help our team much more than Thabo can. AS much as Thabos D has waned, Marcus Thorntons offensive weaponry would be a boon

I guess the draft combined started today. Testing results probably leak out early next week.

Wow, that was an ugly basketball game to watch.

If Collison slows down, maybe not next year but sometime later, he might drift back toward Center.

Ok.

I am not sure PF is that deep right now but it depends of how you use Durant and Collison and what they do with Lat W and in the draft.

If you kept Durant all SF and Collison became half C again if Mohammed isn't retained and only one young center gets minutes next season and only modestly then there could be some minutes available, at least situationally.

James has been seriously clutch

Rose absent in the 4th

@Crow

Im still struggling with Perks rough edges, I liked our clean cut appearance. Im against additional unnecessary machismo, especuially if the player only moderately improves our tea,. Besodes, PF is deepest position

Brandan Wright is a real enigma. I use to expect he was going to turn it around but it has been a pretty long time.

Chicagos defense is good. they are rarely out of position

@Daniel Plainview

Are you talking on the court action or talk or off-court or all?

I am not necessarily saying he'd fit. He is unlikely to want to come at a decent price and minute level. I was mainly noting he is out there for somebody.

Crow :
I don’t know what Kenyon Martin will cost or what kind of playing time he will require but I guess I might also look at him, in part to try to impact Denver.

eh, no thugs please

Or perhaps keep him from another western contender.

I don't know what Kenyon Martin will cost or what kind of playing time he will require but I guess I might also look at him, in part to try to impact Denver.

If Harden doesnt start next year Im riding a horse from Michigan to OKC to have a discussion with Brooks

Actually Mirotic may have pulled out of the draft. He recently re-signed til 2016.

@anonymous

Seems unlikely to get Hill but can't hurt for them to inquire.

@shiki

Mirotic could be a nice pick, if he drops and if he and his agent says decent things privately.

Lat had some sort of injury in April but I didn't hear what it was.

@Daniel Plainview
I keep waiting for our strong usage of the 66ers to pay off. Correct if I'm wrong but thus far, we haven't gotten a single solid contributor out of that team [including the numerous trips Mullens and Cole made]. It woud be nice if Latavious was the first but I have my doubts at this point.
