View from the enemy: Warriors World

I’ll be up front: I don’t feel good about this one. The Thunder’s coming off a more-difficult-than-it-should’ve-been win last night in Sacramento. The Warriors are pretty good at home. And Oklahoma City has been prone to give up bunches of points. All of that combined makes me feel a bit uneasy.

However, as good as OKC has been offensively and as bad as Golden State is defensively, I kind of have a hard time picturing the Warriors stopping the Thunder much at all. All that’s going to slow OKC down is if they’re missing open shots. Because they’re going to get the looks.

Golden State coming in: The Warriors have won four of six and last played Thursday, losing at Phoenix. At home though, they’re really good at 17-11.

THE MATCHUPS
Monta Ellis and Russell Westbrook will probably guard each other, but Thabo Sefolosha will  switch between Ellis and Stephen Curry. The Warrior backcourt is small, but extremely talented and speedy. Most of Golden State’s offense hinges on Curry and Ellis so the Thunder has to like they have two quality defenders guarding the Warriors main options.

David Lee is a good pick-and-roll/pick-and-pop power forward, but Jeff Green actually matches up OK there. There’s no overwhelming size difference and really, Green should have an edge athletically. However, I do hope to see some big lineups from OKC with Serge Ibaka and Nick Collison because I think the Thunder can dominate the boards with them.

Dorell Wright has been a nice surprise for the Warriors with his outside scoring, but he’ll have his hands full against Kevin Durant. Especially since not only was KD rolling late last night, but also that he’s looking to wash his hands of those two free throws. And that he normally torches the Warriors.

Again, I just don’t feel great about the Thunder’s overall chances. OKC is a better team and overall, I feel like the matchups favor the Thunder almost across the board, but with the way the Warriors score, I worry.

Tip at 7:00 CT. Go Go.

@justin

Being definitive about something doesn't make it right. How has he ever demonstrated that the ebb and flow of our very un-NBA educated local media effects him? Presti seems to be very much above the fray when it comes to almost all of his dealings... Am I wrong?

@Thunder S

Though I think you meant to say, "Get-rid-of-nenad-thabo-green-and-get-a-big-in-here" To get Bogut/K-Love (which won't happen), we'd probably have to get rid of Harden too

@Thunder S

Nice synthesis

We are in good shape, and that attitude is great tto have as a fan, but the coach should demand more.

we seem to have the "dont-worry-look-at-our-record" faction and the "get-nenad-thabo-green-and-get-a-big-in-here" faction...but i just think the biggest problem is that they dont seem to be correcting any problems with the current team. also, is it really sustainable for westbrook/durant to carry this much of the load?

@gokc

Now come on, smoke the pipe that I stole from Dylan, and Fake David, and you'll have perspective and everything will be peachy. We have a great record, and our division stinks so we're a lock for the playoffs. Who needs to play smart when you've lucked out into this blissful situation.

Brooks should be replaced. He cant manage minutes, run plays well and it seems like he doest push th team enough. it's like as longas everyone's running he thinks they're playing well but playing hard and playing smart are 2 different things

Kings wouldnt do that trade

It only works on trade machine if you do Mo Pete, Green, Kristic, for Dalembert and Landry

Westbrook should get some advice from Rondo

At this point, I'm really hoping we can do that Green/filler for Landry/Dalembert from the Kings. Or at least play Harden and Ibaka more. It's really sounding like a broken record, but just a few starting lineup changes would help this team so much.....

Troker :@justin
You really think Presti is in any way influenced by our local media? I know they like to perpetuate our small town”ness”, but I would hope we couldn’t possibly care less.

Of course he is influenced by the local media...

Cole is not the answer.

On Jeff Green, he is eminently replaceable. You can get someone like him easily in free agency or trade, to come in for 20 minutes a game, back up KD, etc. Green is not a starter on this team, and concerning over his status should be a distant third for OKC, behind extending Westbrook and getting a big guy.

Griffin doesnt jump he levitates.

okc baby :
Can we afford KD, Westbrook Green and a more expensive Big

Why would you even want Green? For what purpose?

@justin

I thought you wanted Nene

andrew :@justin

I have a feeling we are going to start hearing the words “small market” and “can’t afford” a lot more from the media as it becomes clearer we need to acquire a big man. Depressing. I am really really really hoping Cole can be a contributor late this year.

Yep. It's too bad the OKC media enables that line of thinking. The whole 'keep all our own players' thing.

In the end, the donut in the front court is so painfully obvious that I don't think it can be wholly ignored by the front office, no matter what. The Thunder will lose a playoff series this year because they are killed by opposing power forwards / big guys. Two years in a row, I think there will be a lot of sentiment favoring a move.

I don't have high hopes for Cole at this point.

It's okay. We're still 1st place, and hey we did everything wrong (TO's, boards, etc) and we're still in it to win it until the end. We don't go on 2 game losing streaks. Crush Sacramento, ASB, and then we'll show up again because we always show up when playing good teams. Blake Griffin! Whoo! Seeing him live. Who's going to join me in a chant of Boomer Sooner in Loud City when he's announced?

@okc baby
Short answer: Yes

Can we afford KD, Westbrook Green and a more expensive Big

@andrew

Probably not. John Hammond traded his star player once before and it didn't work out so well for him (Ray Allen).

The point is there will be options, and it's clear that the team desperately requires an upgrade in the front court to get to the next level. Presti has to make that his #1 priority. Winning the division in fine this year but next year we'll need a big guy to make the type of improvement that will be expected.

gr8ball83 :
if you ever want to feel better about the thunder, watch the sportscenter highlights for the cavs-wizards game. feel so much better now.

HAHAHAHAHAHA +1!

FakeScottBrooks tweeted "Tough loss. Positives: Thabo made his 3rd 3 since Christmas, and held Ellis to only 33 points. #MVP #whoneedsharden"

This team just needs more at the combo 4 position. Green is the only player we have who lays it on the line night in and night out. Westbrook and KD may be all-stars, but Green, Sefalosh, and Kristic are way closer to being All-NBA'ers in my book. We'll never win a championship until Kevin Wilson learns to run from under center, and/or Mike Stoops comes back to coach the D!!! #BOOMAH!!!!

justin :
I want Andrew Bogut.

I want a pet unicorn.

You can't really believe we have a chance at Bogut can you? I don't think the Bucks are going to take a chance at blowing up the team until at least next year...

if you ever want to feel better about the thunder, watch the sportscenter highlights for the cavs-wizards game. feel so much better now.

@gr8ball83
I think were two games under .500 for the Top 8 teams, but I forgot

Sanda Panda City...I'm the mayor.

@justin
our team defense would be so much better, less over helping, etc.

whats our record against the top 5 teams in the nba? is it better than the heat's 1-6?

We just need less Green and Nenad in the game.

@gr8ball83

2nd to Dwight defensively at the position, IMO...

@justin
a defensive rebounding big man? count me in. i could use some aldrich though...

Warriors didnt derserve a win. We deserved to lose

JJJ :@justin

I actually hope that our guys goof off all AS wknd and come unprepared and lose 3 of the next 4 games. I really want people to write us off. Maybe that will get the defense and intensity up for the homestretch. We seem to play better when ppl doubt us.

Right, i rather us have a chip on our sholder

@DJ R7
me, hopefully i won't have to scream at our guys too much or have a heart attack

IM done fighting, i think we're all just very pissed that we lost this game. Bad loss, the Warriors deserved the W. Lets just look forward to the Kings @home. Who else is going to that game?

oUr offense does well if KD and Russ show up.

You know, if the Thunder were playing well and lost, no big deal. But they're not playing well. And more importantly, they're not being coached well.

I was never under any illusion that they would win a title this year, but I thought they'd look better than this.

@justin
definitely agree, i kind of wish durant and westbrook weren't playing, i think some rest/refocusing would help them

gr8ball83 :@DJ
R7
we finished the season terribly last year if i remember correctly, didn’t we lose like 7 of our last 9 games?

before then we were going on 4-5 game winning streaks.

Keith :
Serenity now. Until we have a big man, we will never be an elite team. Until we put high value on possessions at the end of games (both offensive and defensive), we will never be an elite team. Until we are an elite team, this is the team we will be – exciting at times, frustrating often, talented, but ultimately ready to lose to any team on any night.

Pretty much. Fixing the personnel should be top priority.

DJ R7 :

dylan :

David :@dylan

Maybe you should quit lying to the masses about how good our team is. We overhelp on D, don’t run any good offensive plays, have a horrible TO ratio, run terrible inbounds plays, and we have seen no improvement whatsoever in any of these problems all year. In fact, we’ve regressed.

For a team that never “runs any good offensive plays” and “runs terrible inbounds plays” we’re 5th in the league in scoring. I wonder how good we could be if we reversed that!?!?!?!

Thats because we have the Leagues best overall pure shooter, and a PG that shows hall of fame play at times, but then gives you nights where you think he was a boy among men.

Wow, so I guess things aren't so bad after all, huh
