Saturday Morning Cartoons: Harden windmill smash

(Good day Thunder. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Happy All-Star Weekend.)

People still think James Harden can’t jump. They still think he’s slow. They still think he’s not athletic. Well, he tried to prove some people wrong Friday night in the Rookie/Sophomore game. Harden went flying through the air to drop a fancy windmill on a break and really left us asking the question: Is the right Thunder player in the dunk contest tonight?

Judging by Carmelo Anthony’s reaction, that might be a no.

Yeah it wasn't my best timing or best thinking, but with Harden and Ibaka getting talked about and with All-Star weekend being a hyped crock in my eyes I drifted into talk about Harden and Ibaka playing real basketball together. To me it shouldn't "ruin" anything really (that is pretty sensitive) but I probably should have waited or passed.

Crow :
Last season only 6 lineups got used 100 minutes. They are already there this season. They might get to 8-9 over 100 minutes. But it was probably mostly because of the injuries rather than a decision to gather bigger samples of key lineups.
If you can’t do that much with that 5 man lineup data, you can try to look at players pairs and triplets maybe quads as well for additional clues.
If you are right about players you may well be pretty right on lineups but it is not quite as simple as just being right on players, interactions can matter. But the mystery fuels the soap opera.

dude i know that this is basketball talk about the team, but come on man, lets take a break just like the players are. Don't ruin the Talk with the stuff thats been bugging us all year.

I probably shouldn't talk much about lineup ratings given the small samples in almost all cases and that has been covered a lot. But it is weird they spend $60 million a year and are still guessing whether the 3rd or 5th or even 1st most used lineup is likely good or not and how far one way or the other. There are limits but they could use the minutes in a more concentrated fashion to get better info on a few top lineups of the now or the future even if it only helps a little.

justin :
Next season Ibaka will be in the 3pt contest and the dunk contest.

And the skills challenge.

This is what it will feel like when they give the MVP to Derrick Rose...

@justin
LOLZ. Hopefully, Serge recruited more sheep in to his fan base.

Yeah, this contest needs a total reboot. The format with only 4 guys and the way they do it is lame. Also the judging is sort of a joke. They should just make it all online and text voting and take the in-person judges out altogether.

If they did that then the most popular guy would always win. It should litteraly be based off of whos dunks were best. like it use to be WAY back in the day.

Isn’t that what happened tonight anyway? The top two favorites seemed predetermined to make the finals no matter what Serge and Derozan did.

True but itll be even more pre-determined. It would be a better idea, but i can't imagine all the non basketball idiots, or little kids voting Griffin to win it, even though his dunks were not the best.

The Daily Dime Live chat was pretty much of the consensus opinion that Ibaka was the best Dunker. Hopefully he made enough of an impact to get a real shot at it next year.

Well if it means anything even Miller, Barkley, and Howard were saying Ibaka was robbed after the 2nd dunks were performed. Its a shame that they fixed it, i like Blake, and wanted him to win but he doesn't deserve it. Hopefully they let Ibaka compete again, he deserves it. Or Harden man he can throw it down.

This new "Falling Skies" show looks okay but I just know TNT is going to torture us by running promos ad nauseum for it during the playoffs.

With the dunks Mcgee was doing you're telling me all he had was that weak off the backboard dunk???? Blatant fix

Kia paid for the advertisement. Serge couldnt compete on that rookie contract:)

@RWisMyFavThunder
Hope so. But, it's hard to talk trash when we haven't beaten them yet.

For real let the people vote. They will be less Bias

If they gave 50 to Serge's first dunk which they should have, he would have been tied with Blake for the 2nd best score and been in the finals.

Charles needs to upgrade his cell phone. I had that years ago.

@justin

The power of the media. Oh well. Still love Blake, and can't wait to see the Thunder beat him in person on Tuesday.

I'm so proud of our guys though (aside from KD's 3 pt showing. He looks tired. Maybe he should have taken All-Star Weekend off). Tomorrow, I just know KD and RW will give us something to talk about as well.

It's a setup, fixed contest... Boooooo...

I think Griffin was the worst dunker in the contest.

Ibaka's dunk is better than anyone Nate Robinson did,but Nate won three titles.
I hope he will play dunk contest next year.

They should just let everyone complete all their dunks and add the scores up so we can atleast see the dunks. Because this is cheating

@555

i've attempted it before on a crappy car, and almost can make it. A few friends can though, thats why im not impress at all by it. Ordinary people who don't play basketball can, so what makes it so special that Blake can do it? because he can dunk at the same time? i know people who've done crazier things than that.

anticlimactic second half. Gotta wonder what serge would have done...

@okc baby

I agree. I thought he was going to jump over Baron Davis

Seriously, I can't jump high like him but jumping over the hood if a car is not that hard...

TNT screwed up the camera work there. We almost missed the dunk entirely because they were still shooting the choir.

It would have been better if he jumped over the roof instead of the hood

DJ R7 :
it is a terrific dunk though.

i mean terrible, everyone knew what he was going to do since the start.

Yeah it fixed. Got to bring a car out and choir he had to win.

See they even said they think Ibaka was robbed.

that dunk wasn't even close to impressive.

it is a terrific dunk though.

All he did was hop over the hood of a car. Big deal.

Blake does have the best coach in the contest... Ha, ha...

Hes going to lobb it threw the sunroof!!

is so fixed. They even have a choir there, they wouldn't have invited a choir if they werent sure Griffin wasn't going to make it to the final round.

IT IS NOT A TEDDY BEAR! IT IS A BISON!

Griffins last dunk was actually pretty good but he shouldn't have made it to the 2nd dunk. Serge, and Rozans dunks were better and more creative than his. Should be Serge vs Mcgee. Serge got robbed on the first dunk by DR.J, and Wilk. His 2nd dunk was still pretty creative and better than Griffins and Rozans. I'm not even being bias i wanted Griffin to win. If he does he doesn't deserve it.

Last dunk by Griffin was nice

Well, Ibaka did himself, his team, and his country proud. He also got ripped off. You dunk the ball after taking off from the freaking *foul line*, and all it gets is a 45?

Please.

His second dunk was almost as good, and was wonderfully creative. I'm afraid though, both of them are going to be relegated to a future episode of "The Lost Dunks."

He should have made the finals. But he did himself proud.

NBA dunk contest gets worse every year. Finally have good dunks and they screw up the scores. All star fail.

Landy Fields best pure rookie? We could have gotten him.

Search Twitter for "ibaka robbed". Good reading.
