Kevin Durant to participate in 3-point contest

The NBA announced All-Star Weekend’s 3-point contest participants and Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant is one of them.

Joining Durant will be reigning 3-point champion Paul Pierce of the Celtics and teammate Ray Allen (who will be the all-time 3-point shot maker in history by then). Cleveland guard Daniel Gibson, Miami forward James Jones and Golden State forward Dorell Wright round out the field.

Durant is a career 35.8 percent 3-point shooter but as we know, can cook as well as anyone. He’s had months of 50 percent from deep and after a slow start this year, has his percentage up to 34.7.

Gibson actually has the highest career pecentage of the group at 42.6. Allen has made 39.8 percent of his career 3s, Durant 35.8, Wright 38.3, Jones 40.0 and Pierce 37.0. Allen has hit 2,559 in his career and the only other player in the field with at least a thousand is Pierce, who has hit 1,297. Between Durant, Gibson, Wright and Jones, their total is 1,513.

It’s pretty cool that Durant is participating though. Basically, the Thunder will own All-Star Weekend. Serge Ibaka is in the dunk contest and Rookie/Sophomore game. Durant is in the 3-point contest. Russell Westbrook and KD are in the actual All-Star Game. It’s just going to be an OKC party in L.A.

Najera is a dirty player, and he airs commercials for shady pyramid schemes selling "nutritional supplements" on the Sports Animal.

Yuck.

Najera got ejected once for hitting an offical.

@anonymous
if he is he needs some enforcer lessons

I thought Serge was the enforcer?

@MorganG
Yeah but all our clean wholesome players make up for his dirtiness right?? I want an enforcer :(

@Jax Raging Bile Duct
100% agree. I am a huge Sooners fan, but Najera is one of the dirtiest players I have ever seen in the NBA. I just cringe everytime someone mentions him being from OU.

Najera is as dirty a player as there is in the league. He's the one guy who shouldn't talk crap about Garnet.

@f5alcon
absolutely love that idea. He could be our enforcer too

can we get najera as token oklahoman he has a cheap contract that expires next year

http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nba/news/story?id...:
Quote from the article, makes me a proud Sooner:
Eduardo Najera told reporters that Garnett elbowed him in the face near the end of the game, but said he told Garnett "he hits like my grandma."

roy started practicing again.

if they really wanted to make it interesting they should have all the all stars compete in it, watching dwight howard shoot 3s would be funny

Nice, if RW is in the skills competition too. And KD, RW and Ibaka all won their own competition... That would be really cool... A lot shot but would be really cool... :P
So, do they still have the HORSE game in the All Star Weekend?

@Thomas
And so Boston could dominate the All-Star game in LA :)

I think its cool that Pierce and Allen will be going up against one another. I know Pierce had publicly requested that but there was a rule that two members of the same team couldn't compete. Guess they waived that to stir up some interest for this.

@Mrs. Daily Thunder
close enough

@Royce Young
Does that mean there's no chance for Chris Bosh to be kicked off the All-Star team in favor of Melo? Thats a shame.

Pretty pumped for KD to defend his HORSE title another year!

Oh wait, this isn't the same thing?

@qrex
Yeah the commissioner picks a replacement for the West. And I believe the East roster will just have 13 instead of 12 if Melo goes to the East.

@anonymous
Fans vote for that. Westbrook is in the voting.

Have they announced the skills competition yet? If RW is in that, the Thunder would have someone in every event..other than that weird old nba player/wnba player/celebrity contest.

@Royce Young
Does he get replaced on the West squad? And, does he replace a player currently on the East roster?

Lakers and Nuggets initiate Melo talk. Oh shit!

No he'll play for the East.

If Mello gets traded to the Knicks before the All-Star game, does he still play for the West...?
