Saturday Morning Cartoons: Serge Ibaka, flying

(Happy weekend Thunder inclined readers of the Internet. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Whomp, there it is.)

Kenyon Martin told Yahoo! Sports recently that he wasn’t excited about the dunk contest participants. He said, ““Serge Ibaka, Brandon Jennings, JaVale McGee? C’mon man. For real? Ibaka, really? You couldn’t find nobody else to be in the dunk contest? C’mon man.” Other than the fact Martin is a bit of a blowhard and you should probably ignore him any time he opens his mouth, there’s a pretty good amount of video proof that Serge Ibaka has dunking ability. A lot of dunking ability in fact. I’m sure Martin will find this out soon enough. In fact, Air Congo might be using him as a landing strip next Thursday when OKC plays the Nuggets. Fingers crossed.

I don't think any team involved would make that trade.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=...

Resulting in a starting lineup of:

Westbrook
Thabo/Harden
Durant
Love
McGee

@Greg
At this point, I would say it's 60/40 that Green stays.

I feel bad for OKC reporters and media because they seem to have no beat whatsoever. I don't think they have much access to insider information beyond the Thunder's public relations party line.

And seriously, what's Sam Presti going to say? "Green's a scumbag and we won't re-sign him"? Come on...

@Gavin
She doesn't know what she's talking about.

This will make anti Green fans frustrated:
Susan Bible:
I'm going to disagree with your first thought. I think Presti and Green will come to terms (notwithstanding the CBA situation) somehow -- Presti has remained steadfast in his "we want to keep the core together and grow" mantra...and by all accounts, Green is a vital part of it.

IMO, the dunk contest lost all credibility when Lebron decided not to participate in his prime. If it's not important to the important players, then why should we care?

Jordan won, Kobe won. About the time Lebron should've won (right after J-Rich's run), our dunk champs have been Fred Jones, Josh Smith, Gerald Green, Dwight Howard, and Nate Rob x3. Zzzzzzzz

I am scared that Serge will really struggle in the dunk contest. I hope I'm wrong. It seems like Blake Griffin is the star and the other three are just extras on set...

This year's dunk contest just seems to be a reaction by the NBA to complaints about recent contest being too gimmicky. I have a feeling this year may be an anomaly and we'll be back to cupcakes on the rim and capes next year.

I kinda agree with K-Mart. The only difference is he said it is his a**hole demeanor and I'm saying it because I watch Ibaka play and I don't think he will do anything that will "wow" us. A free throw dunk is incredibly difficult and impressive, but if that's his best then it's not that exciting.

@Easton
wilson chandler is better than green

I mean, when you think about gardening and shrubbery… naturally, you think about Kevin Durant!

Just ask Roger, the shrubber

I mean, when you think about gardening and shrubbery... naturally, you think about Kevin Durant!

holy moly!

Just saw a (highly unusual for a sports blog) link at WTLC -- KD mentioned in an ad about a gardening shrub cover (!!!) here's the text:

------------------------
Zone defense

Normally if you hear the words "zone up" at this time of year, it comes spewing from the frothing mouth of a flabbergasted NBA coach who can't get his team to stop someone like Oklahoma City Thunder phenom Kevin Durant. But in the gardening world, "zone up" refers to a closed-cell foam blanket from Gardener's Supply Co. that insulates your plants in a protective "micro-climate."

Each ZoneUp Shrub Cover shields plants up to 30 inches high and 36 inches in diameter from sun scald, wind burn and extreme cold. Give it a shot for $24.99. Visit www . gardeners . com.

wow.

I guess Durant really has become mainstream.

Nothing to do with this article, but did anyone else see this post on bleacher report. It's about the 2007 draft class (i.e. Durant,Green, etc.) The KD love is expected, but I can't believe how much love they give to Green. He's a good player, but the most complete in the Draft...eh?

here's a link:

Serge has definitely had some nice dunks, but that video that the NBA made is a bunch of simple ones for the most part. They coulda found some better ones to include than those.

Did any foreign win dunk contest?
I hope Ibaka can dunk in Martin's face in next game against Denver

Maybe he should leap over a cardboard cut out of Kenyon Martin lol

The video on the bottom of this page has Ibaka's dunk from the line and some other nice dunks.... http://acbtv.acb.com/search?type=some&sort=las...

I think they should try something new, something different for the dunk contest this year...

Set all the participants down at a long table. Give each a cup into which some fresh, hot coffee is poured. Then hand each one a nice big donut. Then watch.

:)

@justin
There's some truth to that. But I'm sure he'll pull out one from the free throw line, and KD won't let him just go out there and do power dunks. I actually can't remember the last time I cared to watch a dunk contest..... Blake and Serge are reason enough.

Kenyon just has sour grapes because his knees are busted.

Serge is probably the underdog in this contest. He's probably the least coordinated of all the contestants, and there's another big guy who is bigger than him and just as athletic. Maybe Serge has some stuff up his sleeves we haven't seen, he just doesn't seem like the creative dunking type.

@innocent bystander
That makes two of us.... I Martin is in for a bit of a surprise.

can't believe the Saturday morning cartoon is posted so early today...

Royce must have risen early like me (woke up at 6:30 this morning for absolutely no friggin reason -- could have slept in as late as I wanted, but I'm just up and that's that, sigh)

'Innocent Bystander' recently read that Kenyon Martin told Yahoo! Sports recently that he wasn’t excited about the dunk contest participants. He then posted, “Kenyon Martin? C’mon man. For real? This guy, really? You couldn’t find anybody better to comment about the dunk contest? C’mon man.”

;)
