View from the enemy: Cowbell Kingdom

All for another easy victory, a show of hands. Everyone? Everybody is good with that? Sounds good. The Kings come in as one of the worst teams in the league at 5-18 and losers of their last 15 of 17. Their best player is battling a painful foot injury, their rookie is already disgruntled and right now, they lack a go-to scorer.

But guess what? That doesn’t necessarily mean this will be easy.

Sacramento coming in: I just mentioned it, but they’ve lost 15 of 17 after starting 3-1. They’re 1-9 in their last 10 and are 2-8 on the road.

THE MATCHUPS
Because Tyreke Evans isn’t entirely himself right now, OKC really has an edge most everywhere. Beno Udrih will struggle with Russell Westbrook. Donte Green, while long and athletic, shouldn’t be able to handle Kevin Durant. Jason Thompson is a decent power forward, but Jeff Green is a better athlete and scorer.

And with Evans hobbled and OKC’s best defender in Thabo checking him, the Kings might not have an edge – or at least a big one – anywhere. I do kind of like what the Kings have in their second unit with Carl Landry, Omri Casspi and Francisco Garcia, but all three of those guys haven’t played especially well this season.

Nenad Krstic will miss again so that means Serge Ibaka will be on the rookie DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins can be one of the best post players in the league, but he’s yet to really put anything together. Cousins is a load so the lighter Ibaka will definitely have to man up tonight.

A big first half run could bury the Kings early, but if the Thunder messes around too much, they could find themselves in a dogfight. Sacramento still has some players. They still work hard. But if OKC defends and keeps playing with a little swagger and flow, there’s no reason why this shouldn’t be a 10-point margin in the end.

Tip at 7:00 CT. Go T.H.U.N.D.E.R.

Denver's still got a lot of productive players if Carmelo is traded, and they'd benefit a lot of they got Favors. They'd still be dangerous.

I got a free t-shirt during a timeout for the first time in sec. 318. that is all...
GO THUNDER!!!

@Anonymous
Feel like Denver's a prime Ewing-theory contender. They have a lot of interesting players that could step up when the entire offense isn't focussed around Melo.

That was a fun game to be at! It was way too close deep into the 4th and then Brooks put the starters back in to close it out. I could see us making a run up the Western Conference standings in the next few weeks.

@Joshua G

Speaking of B2B, @NY is the night after @CHA, while they have off after tomorrow night. Could be a loss, but we've been really good on the 2nd night this year, and against good teams (@POR, @UTA, @MIL, NO). The only one we've lost was at the Bulls, and it was right after they had gotten boozer back.

shiki=4 seasons :@Daniel

I thnk we can win NY.We were 2-1 against Suns last season,they were better team than this NY but they only won by lucky.We missed some FTs that game.
But it will be a tough game against Denver,no good memory when Melo played against us

I agree, but I also remember that most of our games against Denver last year were the second night of a back to back, while they were rested.

Jeff Green leading the way tonight with a +24.

Amare will probably drop 40-15 on us, but that doesn't mean we can't win.

@Daniel
NY and us both play small ball,but I think we are better.
I dont think Ibaka can stop Amare,but it is better than Green to do this.

@shiki=4 seasons
I'm not sure how well Ibaka will do against Amare. He has the strength and speed to keep up with him, but Amare has too many moves.

A win against Dallas at home would be huge as far as going to show that this team has truly put it all together.

We can win out for that stretch but there are some tough matchups there. Dallas, of course. @NYK won't be a cake walk. Atlanta has a nice front court.

Our defense improved to just about league average over the season and our DRTG over the last 10 games is about where we were last year.

@justin
I totally agree. It's glorious to see guys moving without the ball, as opposed to standing still and waiting for Durant or Westbrook to make something happen.

I read some quotes to the effect that we've been focussing in on our offense in recent practices. Makes a ton of sense; we're just so much more active than we were a few weeks ago.

@dream catcher@Clippers@Boston
without KD/Green. Anything is possible with this team haha

Dallas will be tough, but I think we can beat every other team with how we are playing right now.

@Daniel
That's what I was thinking. That still puts us on pace for 57 wins. Considering the early season jitters, along KD's injury and Harden's extreme hesitation, I've gotta say I am ecstatic with that.

CenOK :
It really seems like we are starting to put everything together. Ball movement is infinitely better than it was at the beginning of the season, and Durant looks like he’s regained his spot as the best scorer in the league. KD’s playmaking is also looking a whole lot better, and much less forced, than it did earlier in the year.

I think a big reason for the play making is the movement off the ball, and moving to the ball. Everyone seems to be in motion a whole lot more.

Denver's playing well. I'm convinced they'll make the playoffs comfortably whether or not they trade Melo.

With tonight’s win and Utah’s blowout loss to NOLA, we’re alone on top of the NW. I like it.

*in Borat voice* izzzz niiiceeee

@dream catcher

25-9 would be incredible. I think January starts out rough.

Sammy :
I’m convinced we’re making a concerted effort to develop Mullens as much as we can to see what we should do with him after this season.

I hope that's it.

@Joshua G
I also really like the fact that as good as the Mavs have been playing, we are still only 2 games out of the #2 spot in the west.

agreed. This team is really coming together. I think we can end the year 6-1.

It’s weird this game doesn’t feel like a blowout.

that tends to be the case when you’re obsessed with concentrating only on negatives

Thank you! Go get laid Justin and do something enjoyable with your life, rather than investing all your time into obsessing over the negatives of a sports team.

Nick has nice eye contact with Kelly in the interview. Much better than Harden.

Robert Swift was better than Mullens, IMO.

Good for Darnell. It's always good to score in front of your home crowd.

How can Aldrich not be better than Mullens. This is ridiculous.

Haha, well done Byron. 2 postups. First one he gets pushed out easily (foul called), second one he carries the ball.

19-8 sounds good to me

Bench was the mvp of this game

Then again I doubt 2 minutes would really help.

Looks like Royce may have jinxed KD. 25 pt streak broken.

Can Aldrich not even get in garbage time?

Haha, they took KD out with 24 points. Guess they aren't trying to build up another one of those streaks.

Mullens? Really? Give Aldrich some time!

sweet move KD. For as bad as they've looked they're gonna end up with another blowout

It's weird this game doesn't feel like a blowout.

Funny how we've out of the blue turned into an awesome and willing passing team the past few games

Man, I'm glad I don't have to be a fan of a Westphal coached team.
