Video: Don’t EVER steal the ball from Russell Westbrook

I really got a kick out of this last night. Kyle Lowry picks Russell Westbrook’s pocket, which is something you rarely see. Westbrook doesn’t get the ball taken from him very much. He just gives it away.

Anyway, Lowry steals it from Westbrook and you can see Russ is peeved that he let that happen. So in very Russell Westbrook-ish fashion, he takes it right back. And then of course finishes with a nice dunk. That play really sums up Westbrook’s on-court personality Oh you’re going to take it from me? WELL I’LL TAKE IT RIGHT BACK AND DUNK ON YOU.

Westbrook is one of the most fierce, tenacious competitors in the whole league. It just oozes out of him. It’s probably my favorite thing, that “Why Not?” play-all-out attitude. I said this to someone before that if you made me pick 12 players on the Thunder to clone to build a whole roster from, I’d take Russell Westbrook. No doubt in my mind. And that team would be dang good.

@AC

Tibor's numbers kinda reminds me of Krstic with more blocks.

AC :why does Mayberry say without even substantiating it. “Krstic, it seems, will not be re-signed”? What gave him that impression?

That's what I expect. Then again I didn't expect Swift to get a contract in '08.

Tibor has been doing okay this year in Germany and the Euroleague, but he still seems pretty raw. Good block and rebound numbers considering his minutes, but fouls like crazy.

http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=ger&...

all ball on this one though.

I think Krstic will be gone. Ultimately, I think the team will want to keep either him or Collison, and they'll (rightly) keep Collison.

@AC
the question is would he try and get a short term bigger money deal or a long term smaller money deal

if you were kristic, too, would you want to leave for maybe 3 or 5 more million dollars to get clobbered somewhere else while the Thunder (hopefully) continue to improve. I just don't know why people are so ready to consider him gone, I think he's a good player.

@AC
yeah lots of free agents centers so i doubt krstic will command a lot of attention.

@Holdmymartian
6ppg 4 rpg 19 mpg

so middling for a backup

@Sammy
I don't know why its a given. What will his price be? Its hard to figure out.

What happened to Childress? Has he been any good?

With Nash out Phoenix has Toronto beat as far as least talented team in the league. Yikes. J-Rich is pretty good, but beyond that....

@AC
Isn't that a pretty widely held opinion? I doubt it's based on any sourced knowledge.

@shiki
they certainly can afford to pay luxury tax

@AC
yeah i am not sure what he is basing that on, it depends on what krstic wants, if he wants long term stability like thabo and is willing to sign a cheap extension for 3 or 4 years id do it. 4/15 something like that, as a backup center he would be fine.

why does Mayberry say without even substantiating it. "Krstic, it seems, will not be re-signed"? What gave him that impression?

I think Blazers dont care Luxury tax and they still have a dream that one day Oden will be better than KD.

@justin
You are right. But that doesn't include priz, cunningham and mills extension and 2 1st round pick next year.

Gavin :@justinMake it $17.6M, they are in luxury tax if CBA stays the same.

No they aren't, they would be at ~$70.something million next season with Greg Oden accepting a QO and them picking up Andre Miller's option; pending a Joel Przybilla signing. Luxury tax threshold this year is ~$70 million.

@justin
Make it $17.6M, they are in luxury tax if CBA stays the same.

Wouldn't surprise me. Like I said, worst thing for Portland would be to give up on him and see him succeed elsewhere. They have their whole vision of the franchise invested in Oden, I don't think $8.8M is too much to put into one last shot at making something work.

i dont think oden would want to come here, he takes durant being better personally. it would be like brent barry being tony parkers best man when he marries erin barry.

Serge Ibaka’s 17th Sibling :@Ozark

But you also have to take into account that Oden has the Benjamin Button disease. In 20 years, he’ll be fully healed and look like Stephen Curry. You have to think long term when building a gigolo.

hahaha

@justin

I know. I am just making fun of Brian Davis' calls in general. It is hard to listen to the guy.

You have to bring the ball back at least a little bit for it to be a tomahawk.

@justin

I don't know about that. It is really hard to statistify the Tomahawk dunk.

@Ozark

I don't think Brian Davis knows what a Tomahawk is.

@Serge Ibaka’s 17th Sibling

Like I said before, it looks larger because he tore that ligament, too. Probably a bit less functional, limits the angles and you have to be more cautious with it.

@Serge Ibaka’s 17th Sibling
haha!! i totally forgot about that.. okay, good call.. that's the one thing my perfect gigolo was missing.. Presti needs to sign Oden, stat!

@TempBoy Brandon
You don't need his face, just that certain body part that he shared with the world about a year ago. The ladies aren't paying for the face after all.

@Serge Ibaka’s 17th Sibling
Oden would destroy my successful male gigolo's makeup! he will have no part of helping me to woo hot women. my perfect male gigolo will not be spending time at the nursing home, that's all i'm saying..

@TempBoy Brandon
If you're looking to build a successful male gigolo, then the thunder definitely need to sign Oden

I would take 12 DJ Whites. Why? Because my league would be 'make it take it' and I'm pretty sure DJ White has never missed an open jumpshot in his entire life.

I'd take Serge Ibaka's face and body, Jeff Green's smile, Russ's boyish cuteness, Harden's fashion sense, Nick Collison's wit and humor, Nenad's accent, KD's bank account, and Thabo Sefolosha's name... and I would become the world's most successful male gigolo of all-time.

@Greg

A good point. Maybe they could be cloned to believe they're always playing in a contract year.

@Chocolate Ginobili
Lord Byron misses on purpose.

@Chocolate Ginobili
I think crashing the glass would be the highly unlikely part of it.

I'd probably go with 12 Mullens raining unguardable 3 pointers down on the opposition and crashing the glass in the unlikely event of a miss.

Last season I'd take 4 Durants / 1 Westbrook. This season if things stay the same 2 Westbrooks and 3 Durants; but if it is open to change, I might still go 4 Durants / 1 Westbrook.

If you had a 10 man roster and a limit of 5 on anything, I'd take at least one Collison.

If you could select among Westbrook today, Westbrook in 2-3 years or Westbrook in 5 years, blind, not knowing what changes or injuries are coming, I'd probably go Westbrook in 2-3 years then it would be a tough call between now and 5 years from now.

I like 1 Westbrook, 1 Harden, 1 Durant, 1 Ibaka, 1 supersized Ibaka

Anonymous :how many of the 12 Westbrooks would have a mohawk and how many would just tease me with the mohawk during the offseason just to cut it before opening night.

if this were facebook, i'd "Like" this status.

But I think if you need 5 of one player, Green would do it. I'm not sure the Durants would be a little too turnover prone and the Greens would be able to defend the Durants pretty well.

If you could have whatever you wanted 2 Westbrooks and 3 Durants would probably beat most or all other combos. 4 Durants / 1 Westbrook vs that, I dunno who wins.

3 – 4 Westbrooks would be the saturation point for a rotation. I am not sure 3 on the court would be better than 2 and something else.

I think 3 - 4 Westbrooks would be the saturation point. Not enough ball or position time for more than that. 5 Westbrooks on the court, I'd just pack the paint against them. Want to shot beyond 5 feet? Go ahead. The defense would be terrible if you based it off the last 10 games and inside players would do their thing fine against him.

@AC

12 Greens would be too polite. I'd go with a dozen of russ.

I love how Westbrook gives a hard foul to stop play when a Thunder is down.

you really think 12 westbrooks could beat 12 durants or 12 greens?

I think 12 greens might win, just because of how versatile he is.

what a great play. yeah, that would be one scary team.
