Saturday Morning Cartoons: KD taking over the Blazers

(Happy Saturday Thunderheads. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Kevin Love people… Kevin Love.)

The Thunder trailed 100-97 with about three minutes left and to that point, Kevin Durant had scored just two points in the fourth. It was time. Time for KD to take this thing over. And that he did. He scored on the drive. He scored with the jab-step-jumper. Then he scored with a little cross-dribble, fadeaway over Nicolas Batum. It was eight straight points from Durant and they were so, so pretty.

Marc Gasol hasn't been posting big numbers so far, in comparison to Z-bo as well. Maybe the Grizz will extend Randolph instead.

Chris Kaman has been horrible this season. I wouldnt trade for him right now.

Team doctors, their opinions before you have a player or sign a new contract, how decision-makers respond to that advice and their treatment efforts after are often pretty important.

I haven't followed the details of Kaman this season, so my interest is based on the past and would need to be updated.

@Crow
He is better than Nenad.But what is wrong with him now?His FG% is under 40% and only 2 free throws every game.

And do you read this?http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2010/1...
McHale's prediction comes true.Roy's knee is a big problem in his carrer.

Crow :Would the Clips take Krstic and filler and other considerations for Kaman? Wound the Thunder?

I'm so lukewarm on Chris Kaman. He has high point totals but takes a ton of shots to get there. He's not a super defender. He's an upgrade over Krstic for sure, but all that plus the injuries and the contract - I'm not sure he's worth it.

Meant "would", I guess it could wound but it could help too.

Casspi better find his defense again but I doubt he moves this season.

I don't think you can take Cousins and trade him after 3 weeks of the season. Discipline him if you need to. I am not going to react too much to "news" or "rumors" of problems until after they are forced to discipline him publicly and after that fails.

@KD FAN
Thompson doesn't play well this season.He has only 15 mins with only 37.5% FG%.Can he be better in thunder?We have Cole but give his a little time.How many minutes Thompson can get?
It is said that Kings' locker room is chaos now and three teams want to get Cousins.
Which is better,green for Cousins or Green for Thompson+Casspi?

Yeah, I'm not trading Harden for Thornton. Thornton's struggling defensively under Monty Williams so he's not getting as many minutes as he was last year. Also need to account for the fact that Thornton was leaned on quite a bit last year to be a primary scorer. Who knows what Harden would have looked like if given that much responsibility.

@KD FAN

I like Jason Thompson and would trade Jeff Green for him, but he wouldn't immediately become our best post scorer. He's not really a post scorer at all. Jeff Green scores at a higher percentage inside of 10 feet than Thompson. Thompson takes a greater percentage of his shots there, but that's skewed by Green's three point shooting.

The main appeal of someone like Thompson is his rebounding ability and size at the position. I don't think he'd be a big upgrade scoring wise / if at all / over Jeff Green. Defensively and on the boards, though, it'd be a nice pickup.

Question is what would Sac want from us?

I would not trade Harden for Thornton. Giving up on Harden so quickly would be a rash decision, unless we're getting a game changing front court player.

Thompson is a young athletic scorer,rebounder and seems like a good guy, he would immediately become our best post scorer and rebounder, paired with Serge, i would love our athleticism in the frontcourt also he is still on a rookie contract i believe and we wouldnt be stuck with him long term unless he plays great and we want to keep him, Im sure he would love a change of scenery based on all the drama going on in Sactown, also Jeff Green could come off the bench and be our all around 6th man that he is destined to be

@Sammy
Peja's contract expires after this season, but we probably wont make that trade because we can match any offer for Uncle Jeff this summer, Thornton would be a major impovement over cook and Harden, but i guess were stuck with Harden for awhile unfortunately, and really our major concern is a tough,rebounding center/power forward, we gotta get a proven big guy quick, i think we should take a chance on Dampier, we have money to spend and he will be cheap and signed to a 1 year deal so we having nothing to lose if he doesnt work out, however Jason Thompson should be our #1 target right now, Dampier 2nd, Thornton 3rd

I did a draft study a while back. 3 point shooting was by far the easiest need to fill in the late draft. This doesn't come as much of a surprise to me, but it was nice to have some confirmation.

At this point, we are what we are on the perimeter IMO. Shooting would be nice, of course, but there's a bigger problem down low. If we're going to trade assets, let get someone who can control the paint to some degree.

@Daniel Plainview
I wouldn't trade Green straight up for Thornton, let alone take on Peja's contract.

@justin
That's funny. I didn't really start reading Darnell's stuff till this preseason.

Green for Peja and Marcus Thorton? Or is Pejas cpntract way too steeep?

Anyone read Darnell's bullets recently? Judging by the way his tone's changed the past half a year or so, I think he reads some of your stuff, Royce.

"•Miller’s got a pump fake for every situation. That is all."

Sounds like something you'd write in one of your recaps. :)

When I look at Thornton I mainly see an average scorer with above average usage. I guess he was a volume 3 point shooter last season and a bit above average on 3 pt FG% and well above above average on 3 pt FG% this season but on half the rate of attempts per minute so I am not sure yet if he can do both strongly. If he can, then that is one argument for him but only one and do you want that above all else and is he better than Harden for that and everything else? There isn't time for 2 guys like that unless you knock Thabo out or force him up in the position scheme. He could be better than Cook but if you only want him for that are you going to pay enough to get him?

He may not play with Paul much this season or well (I can't tell for sure which is true but one or both probably are) he didn't do anything special with it when he had that chance last season. Is there a reason to believe he would be great with Westbrook and Durant? Or off our bench?

I meant to say he has the "2nd" lowest on the court team win % for the Hornets this season, behind Bayless, but way behind Belinelli and W Green.

His Adjusted +/- was slightly above neutral last season. It is probably pretty negative this season looking at the raw on /off data but because his minutes have been cut almost in half so he doesn't have an Adjusted +/- rating yet for this season.

Thornton is decent now, maybe even nicer last season, maybe promising going forward, but I am not sure I am grasping the full rationale behind the amount of shout outs he is getting. He is not a volume 3 point shooter or strong defender or a strong passer and he is not getting to the line at all this season. He has the lowest on the court team win % for the Hornets this season and it was nothing special last season.

what a great game and a great moment for KD-- thanks for posting this, Royce.. KD and Russ-- i just can't say enough..

by the way, does anyone know where i can get a Thunder schedule wallpaper for my computer? the Dallas Cowboys schedule on my background right now is utterly depressing, so i want to switch it up..

Sef is a better defender than Batum, IMO. But Batum's of course more valuable since he's becoming an effective option on offense.

We need to hurry up and grab Marcus Thornton while he is riding the bench in Nola

@Cpt. C-note
batum is what we want thabo to be, great defender with 3 pt range

So would Kevin Love, for that matter! WOW!

I favorite thing about my seats in Loud City is high-fiving 20 strangers when KD and the Thunder do their thang. This was one of those moments that makes you still believe in this team. Great win. We can do this! Go Thunder!!

OT Batum sure would look good in Thunder blue, huh? I really like his game.
