Thursday Bolts – 8.19.10

Denver Stiffs breaks down NBA Jam rosters: “Durant and Westbrook have some high expectations this season and they should pay close attention to what happened in Portland. Injuries helped derail the Blazers and I hope that doesn’t happen for Oklahoma City, but this Thunder team is started to get a little overrated and it’s not even September. Green is part of those trios that take a team from a good one to a great one, but along the way sometimes three is a crowd and the spotlight starts to fade. Have we seen the best of Green or can he bounce back and keep up his game with his famous teammates?”

NBA Playbook looks at what makes a good rebounding point guard.

Stephen Curry sprained his ankle yesterday and is day-to-day, meaning Russell Westbrook might have a much better chance at the Team USA roster.

This picture popped up in my inbox last night – let’s all welcome new Thunder fan Adelyn to the world (awwwwwwwwww):

BDL ranks the top 30 shooting guards with Thabo coming in 29: “Thabo is often a liability on the offensive end, as the end result of many Thunder possessions usually sees a wide-open Sefolosha clanging an open corner three-pointer while the defense loads up on all of his teammates. No matter, because of all the clangs Thabo causes on the other end. The long-armed Sefolosha might just be the best wing defender in the league, and only reputation and my possible (OK, definite) stubbornness stops him from being ranked higher.”

Harden’s also on the list at 22: “I full submit that this might be a stretch, but with so many Thunder playing completely healthy ball last season, and Kevin Durant playing in the World Championships this summer, the odds are that someone is going to tweak something and be out for seven games, and that someone else is going to do the same and be out for 12. Enter Harden, who works a good all-around game off the bench.”

A quick update on alternate jerseys because I know that’s been a hot topic lately. I spoke with a couple Thunder people that know about these things, and they said an alternate jersey isn’t really coming any time in the immediate future. The league kind of oversees a team’s brand and when the NBA feels like an organization is ready to branch off and start developing secondary logos and uniforms, they’ll let them know. So as of right now, the word I got was a “a couple years.”

@justin
Agreed. Give him a full year as a starter and hes one of the more dynamic Sg's out there. People dont realize how athletic he is cause he looks slow. I think he had a top 5 sprint at the BBall combine

I wouldn't have a problem at all with the Thunder in throwback green and gold. KD, Green and Colly all wore them just two seasons ago.

But then there are decidedly two sets of Sonic fans. Those that have moved on and those that haven't. I have, so I am good with it.

Thanks guys! The custom Serge Ibaka onesie will blow this one away but she won't fit into it until the 2nd half of the season.

@Anonymous
i dunno if that is any better, just makes him seem like a D&D playing renaissance fair attending dork.

@Royce Young

Since when can't a boy baby wear a skirt? (Since forever?) Dangit!

@Scotplum
so cute baby you have

@Scotplum

Congratulations!

So, I am scrolling through the Thursday bolts on my iPhone when, imagine to my surprise, I see a pic of my own baby girl! I guess her grandpa sent the pic in to Royce. Definitely unexpected but thanks to Royce for posting the picture.

It seems like when Miami wore throwback uniforms, it was from a minor league team. We could wear OKC Cavalry jerseys. They won a CBA title once, if I remember correctly.

how is beaubois on the list? he only played 700 mins last yaer

being born into a world with the thunder existing will be cool, they will be superfans when they grow up, like OU/cowboy fan levels of fanaticism

Clark Matthews :
I sent Clark, JrJr off to daycare in that exact onesie today.

He was wearing GIRLS clothes? HAHAHA!

Is harden better than Carter?Maybe Carter is too low.

Yeah I wasn't crazy about the unis at first, but they've grown on me and I certainly don't think they're the worst. I prefer our unis over the Grizzlies, Raptors, and Timberwolves just off the top of my head. Would I be open to changes/adjustments in the future? Of course.

@Grolgar
I don't think they're that bad. They're generic, but not actively offensive. The shield logo on the other hand...

I think Harden jumps up this list if he starts, especially if he puts up numbers similar to his late season jump (not including playoffs). Thabo is too low considering how valuable he is individually. Thabo is mitigated by playing on such an offensively challenged team. Put him on the Nuggets or Knicks, where can quarterback the whole defense and single-handedly hold opponents below his team's score, and he looks like a top 10 SG.

I was under the impression that a team had to wait 2 years to have alternate uniforms. That's what was said on this blog 2 years ago. While I am used to our jerseys, they are the worst in the NBA IMHO.

@Greg

You are most likely correct, and it would make since because Westbrook was on that list. But it's Thursday and I'm feeling particularly snarky for some reason. Must be the off-season.

My apologies Lefty.

@Royce Young

OKC Thunder: So cool, we were wearing throwbacks BEFORE they were throwbacks. Suck it rest of the league.

DeWayne :@Lefty
So by saying you understand, you mean that you realize that it’s a list of shooting guards and not point guards so there is no way that Maynor or Westbrook would ever be on the list?

Earlier there was also a top 30 ranking of point guards, Maynor was missing on the list. I presume that's what he's referring to.

@DSMok1
Oh. Well color my face red.

@Lefty

Royce, that's an old Polychromatic post, if I remember correctly, from during the season (past half-way, I think). I think they're using it to see if they've fixed the corrupted article database.

Who will BDL have at #2 for SF - KD or Melo?

@Jax Raging Bile Duct
You just blew my mind.

I wasn't surprised at Harden's spot. I was genuinely a little surprised at Thabo's spot.

I understand why Maynor wasn't listed in their top 30, but I think he's got the skills to be there.

@Serge Ibaka’s 17th Sibling

I'm under the same impression.

We're actually in our throwbacks right now - it's just that they're not throwbacks yet. But they will be, someday.

@Floppy Punch!
I might be wrong, but I think the Thunder give up the rights to all the Sonics designs when they moved. Sort of like the Browns in the NFL.

@Greg
Doh, I put it in and then copied over it with the uniform thing. Whoops.

Pretty generous ranking for James Harden, I think he could be a Top 20 SG if he were starting. Maybe better.

We need some secondary unis. Either gold, orange, or navy blue.

KingGondo :

Floppy Punch! :I just hope we don’t ever have to wear Sonics throwbacks. I don’t imagine either city would care for that much.

That will never happen.

By the time the dust has settled more, hopefully Seattle will have their new team.

That's what I figured on the uniforms. No mention of Harden being ranked 22nd on BLD's list?
