Summer League Primer: Thunder vs. Pacers

Who: Oklahoma City Thunder (3-1) vs. Indiana Pacers (3-1)
When: 7 AM CDT
Where to watch: NBATV (Cox 256, 726 HD)

Video Stream: N/A

A couple notes: Look for today’s Thunder lineup to be a lot like yesterday’s. Probably a lot of youngsters like Ryan Reid, Latavious Williams, Mustafa Shakur and the like… The Pacers probably haven’t been psyched with Paul George’s play so far. In a word, underwhelming… Lance Stephenson on the other hand has been pretty impressive, though he scored just four yesterday… Magnum Rolle, formerly of the Thunder, has looked like a pretty high-energy shot-blocker. Nice looking player… If you’re putting money on Josh McBob fighting anyone on the Thunder roster today, I’m betting on Byron Mullens. Seems like a match made in heaven to me.

@Ozark
Loving DJ White and hating Jeff Green does seem like quite an odd route to take.

Hey guys!!

I'm a 2 year season ticket holder just getting used to the site. Looks like the best spot for Thunder news and chat on the internet.

It's fun to start to pick up on the individual quirks of different posters here, like that one guy who seems to love DJ White, and hates Jeff Green, and people still seem to think he is smart!!

What's up with that? I can read an FAQ on the salary cap too, geez.

Unless it is really hate, it ain't ya know?
opinions of minions in the millions
deal

the hatin card is whack over played yo

@Anonymous
I am not sure why everyone wants to compare Green to Odom. If Green was Odom, I would not complain. Green cannot score, dribble, pass, or rebound like Odom. Odom rebounds at about 1 rbd every 3 minutes...Green 1 rbd every 6 minutes. No comparison at all.

The Jeff Green debate is old here. There is a reason Presti *has not* given Green an extension. He is simply overmatched at PF. I like Green, and I hope he is better this year, but if he is not, we need a PF like Kevin Love, Josh Smith, etc. Someone who is either a great rebounder OR can score OR can rebound and play better defense at the PF spot than Green.

@Anonymous
I like Green, he's a good player. But he hasn't received a contract extension yet.

@Greg
I dont think we need a big man that scores alot. We need a Center more for grabbing rebounds and blocking shots

Rivalries need to be born on the court, not on the Tunder message board.

Just one man's oppinion.

Beasley is a Timberwolve anyway

@Greg

Beasley is better than Green, but we'd have many of the same problems with him at PF. Wouldn't be worth the hassle with him.

@Osano-Whoa
I'm with you, a rivalry is born!

Given the LA playoff series, and if we come close to living up to all the hype behind us this year, LA-OKC could become quite a rivalary.

OKC-Portland is already a good rivalry. We'd have to meet the Heat in the finals before it became a rivalry, but maybe both games this year will be epic.

I am no Kahn fan, but isn't it the job of the GM to make his team better? He can't goaround thinking "How can I make another team worse?" It was a good deal for the Wolves. He they hadn't done it, somone else would have.

You know, if things roll a certain way I could totally see Thunder winning the West and Heat winning the East to meet in the finals 5 or more times over the next decade. How do you think the narrative of that matchup would turn out? I remember some people arguing over who should be our rival a bit back.

Beasley is gonna put on a show for somebody... book it!

@justin
Except he still has more potential than Green. And is more dynamic offensively, the better rebounder too. But Green is obviously far and ahead of Beasley in character, work ethic, and defensive versatility.

It would've been a chance that Presti doesn't usually ever take, so it's hard to say we'll regret it.

NOTICE TO CAVS FANS:
Until such time as Lebron James repents and returns to his homeland, all downtrodden Clevelanders and disaffected Lebron fans and are welcome in Thunderland. While King James hath forsaken you, Prince Kevin awaits you with the promise of retribution.

From this day forward, let it be known that all Cavs fans are honorary Thunder fans!!! Welcome aboard!!

Beasley would be the same kind of problem at PF that Jeff Green is...

Kevin Durant: "Glad my bro mike Beasley is outta Miami... u gon really see him get busy this year!!" Twitter

It seems to make sense that OKC should have taken a flier on Beasley. Will we regret it?

@DXL
Like it's been pointed out, Reid could be a Udonis Haslem lite if he finds a jumper. He has a nice free throw stroke, so there is potential.

@OKC baby
Too expensive, and not productive enough offensively.

@f5alcon
I'd say much more blame should be placed on the Wolves. We took on Cook's contract before there was any notion of this Dream Team. At the time, we probably thought it would them to sign Wade/Bosh Wade/Boozer Wade/Amare in Miami. Presti wouldn't help them out the night of THE DECISION, only Kahn could be enough of a dick to pull that off.

What about Thunder getting Varajeo from the cavs? They might be off loading players

We'll find out what the Thunder think of White before the season. They'll have the chance to pick up his option for a 4th year at a salary of 2 million dollars. That's cheap compared to what's available in free agency but over 4X what Lat Williams or Reid would make as 2nd round draft picks.

Let's please not turn this comment section into a LeBron thing. I have had enough of the LeBronathon...

I wonder how many new fans the Thunder just picked up thanks to "The Decision?"

@LeBron
Oh, and good luck with that whole title thing. I'm certain you will find it easier now that you have Wade and Bosh to close out playoff games for you.

Oh, and don't expect those loving, respectful cheers of appreciation from opposing fans when you hit the road, anymore. Those are reserved for quality players of high character, like Wade or Durant.

Lebron Fan,

Quiter, I just burned your jersey because you mean nothing to me. Thanks for stabbing us in the back on national television. You will never be a micheal jordan, larry bird, magic johnson. And stop blaming cleveland for not getting the ring. The problem wasnt cleveland they did everything they could to bring people in to win games. You will always be remembered as the one who could never make could on your promise. Your are a superstar with no legacy.

Dear Cavs Fans:

It's not me. It's you.

Sincerely,

LeBron

Summer league's a funny thing. It's better for finding out who absolutely has no shot to make it. What we've learned: Robert Vaden is a wasted draft pick; Devon Hardin's a wasted draft pick. Both guys stink.

Reid's played as well as can be expected in summer league. He's had a seriously great week. Does it mean he's guaranteed to be a real prospect? Of course not. But he hasn't been ruled out.

He'll get a chance to kick butt in the D-league and develop a jumper. Can I realistically imagine him someday setting screens and doing other dirty work for Kevin Durant in the NBA? Yes.

@Bryan
female implies insane,lol

i doubt we cut dj white, weaver is more likely because of his contract situation.

i hope the rest of the league isnt mad at us for creating the super team, us and the wolves are responsible

justin :@Bryan
DJ White is my kryptonite.

Hahaha... I have one too, but she's cute, female and completely insane lol

@LeBron
Lebron, if you really wanted to win a championship in Cleveland, you would have offered to take less money in order to bring in some better talent. You would not have imploded during the playoffs.

Personally, I feel a bit like this was all a self-fulfilling prophecy for you. You didn't think you could win in Cleveland and you didn't. You wanted to move, so you created the right conditions to move. You have a lot of growing up to do. Until this year, you were my favorite player of all time..... now I have you ranked somewhere in the neighborhood of Darko.

@LeBron
It really does seem like he balked at the question about whether or not he had planned to team up with these guys...

Thats all i have to say about lebron today.

@justin
I live in Tulsa and I went to a 66ers game a while back after DJ returned from injury. After the game he gave me a high five and I wished him well and he said "Thanks man". Ever since then I have rooted for him and I just wish he could be a better defender so he could some burn with the Thunder.

@Bryan

DJ White is my kryptonite.

@LeBron

Wrong blog, LeBron.

justin :DJ is probably one of the few players in the league I have a positive bias for because he was one of my favorite college players.

The truth comes out!!! Justin CAN get attached to a player lol

Just messin with ya today....

Dear Cavs Fans:

Lets not forget that this was my decision, and I had to do what makes me happy. If Cleavland had built a team i could win a championship with i would have loved to stay around, but they didn't. I'm sorry it worked out that way. I brought excitement to your city that no one has since Jim Brown, and do not feel like I owe the city anything more at this point (like staying around just because you want me to).

Plus i've been plannin on teaming up with my boys this summer if it was possible for a long, long time.

Sincerely,

LeBron

@Greg
It sure will be interesting to see how they fill out their roster. If Lebron and Co. take enough of a pay cut to preserve some cap space, they could easily help a team slide under the cap by taking on a rotation player or two. There are a handful of vet FA's around, as well.

Frankly, all they need are some guys who can defend and provide energy. Weaver would be perfect coming off the bench until they find a better backup SG. And DJ White could add some scoring off the bench as well. I guess I'm just thinking about value off the bench.

Miami is looking for good D leaguers on their budget

DJ is probably one of the few players in the league I have a positive bias for because he was one of my favorite college players.

Lat is here to stay. I firmly believe he and Reid both will be full-time 66ers.

As a gung-ho, over enthusiastic, watch every minute of OU football fan, I cannot wait for October. Never thought I would say that about NBA basketball. Let's get this season started!!

People like to complain about Green's defense.... HA! DJ White is about as bad as they come.

If guys like DJ White and Weaver are seeing the floor this year for Miami, they'll be extremely lucky to make the Finals.

I won't even comment on the Heat's future if they plan to play Dexter Pittman this year..

@Keith

Your reasoning, I agree with. But I'd still rather have DJ White around for depth. He can be thrown into a game and contribute. I don't think Reid could.

I'd rather Lat Williams be around than Reid. Williams has some potential to get a lot better.

@justin
Mullens pulled down more rebounds than White this week.
