You can mail any forthcoming rings to 211 N. Robinson

Dave McMenamin of ESPN LA drops this little nugget in a piece on Kobe and the Lakers kicking it into high gear:

Last year, the Lakers had the 39-point Finals embarrassment at the hands of Boston to use as motivation. This year, they’ve battled complacency because all they see in the rearview is confetti pouring down at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at the end of their parade route. Bryant said that feeling was jolted out of them in the first round against the hungry Thunder.

“We’re there,” Bryant said. “We got it. The competition from Oklahoma is probably what did it.”

That’s because Kevin Durant and Co. put the Lakers in a 2-2 headlock. Deron Williams and Co. have merely wilted to sweep fodder.

First, I have no idea why Kobe continues to refer to the Thunder as just “Oklahoma” but the fact he continues to pour praise on our young team is flattering. There’s no denying Kobe’s greatness. And he definitely saw something that impressed him from the Thunder.

And through that, we woke up the beast I guess. Sorry Western Conference. But I guess that means we get to take part in the celebration, if it happens, right?

Even though deep down I really want the Suns to beat the Lakers, but in a way, I want the Lakers to take it all the way. It would kill me to see Lakers lose. I want the team who beat us to beat everybody else. Otherwise, our loss is in vain.

i like channing frye from u of a too......wish he would get salim stuodamire a spot on the team they'd be ma second fav then so go suns go....

i want grant hill to ride off into the sunset with a ring.....

Its too bad that The Thunder had to fall down into 9th place at the end of the season. I really think they could have beat everybody except LA.
If we had been able to play a couple of other teams first we might have had it to actually beat LA. I am hoping next year the coach doesn't play our starters so many minutes throughout the year. I think they really were too tired at the end of the season and that kind of showed on KD in his inability to shoot those last two games (although no doubt he really helped the team in other ways.)

another year, another underwhelming performance in the playoffs by the cavs. where are all the lebron apologists now? in what was his most important game as a cav, he had a very 'cavalier' 15 points.

i will give lebron credit for doing a couple of things that michael jordan never did. like get swept in a finals, and win a bronze instead of a gold medal. for someone with 'chosen one' tattooed on his back and nicknamed 'king james,' he has nothing to show for it except individual awards and cash. lebron is the most hyperbolic player in the history of the nba.

Magic deserve to win.Give Superman a ring!!!! apart from that The Lakers will win

How can you not root for the Suns? Suns-Magic would be the best possible series out there. It would be so much fun.

What grates my nerves more than Kobe referring to the team as "Oklahoma" are the national broadcasters that refer to us as "Oak City." The pronunciation, not the spelling. I know they mean well, but I hate it. Just like I hate it when they refer to OSU as "Okie State," and I'm a Sooner fan. One who has no problem being called an Okie. But it's Oklahoma State, not Okie State. And it's Oklahoma City or OKC, not "Oak City."

Okay, off my Oak City soapbox now. It's nice to see the Thunder getting props like that from the Lakers. Watching their series against the Jazz it seemed pretty clear that OKC woke them up. If they keep playing like this, they'll be hard for anyone to beat. If they win another title, what part of downtown Oklahoma City do you think their parade route will include?

go lakers. although i would like to see nash get a ring..

@brandon
I don't think that's accurate. We don't need LA to win it all to look good. Nor do I think LA winning it all makes us look better. Fact is, we were supposed to get swept and we didn't, thus we look good. LA was expected to go to the finals and have a 50-50 shot of winning. WE've changed expectations, no one else will really change that.

If Orlando or Cleveland win, it won't make Charlotte/Atlanta, or Chicago look any better. Chicago looks as good as it will simply because it won a game. Charlotte and Atlanta won't look like any less of a failure because they got swept by the Champs.

@brandon

My thoughts exactly.

if the lakers sweep everyone, i'd be happy if they won, it just makes the thunder look better.

Steve Nash is crazy. Also my boy Jared dudley from Boston College is tearing guys up

@James
orlando seems like the better team right now

I predicted Orlando at the begining of the season. Magic vs. Suns would be a great series.

Mastrmatt :@James
You are buying into the NBA koolaid. Suns vs Orlando would be FUN!

I know, I just like seeing the best go against each other. The best players pushed to the brink can sometimes equal epic performances. I also think LA and Cleveland are the best two teams. I'd like to see them go at each other. I'd like to see Lebron get himself a ring too.

It'd be nice to see Steve Nash get a ring. Also, Grant Hill. I like this Suns team a lot.

@James
if they can survive boston

Lakers-Cavs would be the best I think. Lebron vs Kobe in a long series would be great.

@KB
I think they are just too good to get swept. LA has had a huge advantage the first two rounds playing no one with size. Yeah, Utah had Fasenko, but he was an 8 mpg guy before the playoffs. I don't think LA has been particularly tested by someone who can actually match up with them across the board. Amare, Lopez, Frye, and Hill are all tall guys who will force LA to work on both ends of the floor.

I think the Suns will win, but I think the East winner is the champion regardless.

I think Suns-Magic would be the most entertaining series. My 8:1 bet on the Magic to win the title is looking better and better...

I would like to see the Suns win as well. But I think they will get swept. Just wait and see.

I'm rooting for the Suns.
