Kevin Durant says he’s in for next year’s dunk contest (UPDATED)

(UPDATE: KD says just kidding you guys: “MAN I WAS JOKING IM NOT GON B IN THE DUNK CONTEST.” I guess I don’t really get KD’s sense of humor, but regardless of that, I guess he wasn’t serious about that.)

Last night on U-Stream, KD, while wearing some kind of James Harden mask or something, announced that he’s game for next year’s dunk contest. He said he wanted to do it in Dallas this past season, but was a little nervous about it.

He said, “I know I got some dunks that I coulda did better than what those guys did.” So start brainstorming ideas for KD. I think he should stand flat-footed, and dunk from the free throw line without ever jumping. Just use his go-go-gadget arms to stretch out and flush it. But whatever he does, it’ll be cool seeing him there. However, everybody can change their mind though (see: LeBron, dunk contest, 2010) so don’t get your hopes too high.

Anyone else just feel like this is what a good star should be doing? I mean, I don't really expect him to compete, but how much better is the contest when people who you wouldn't care about otherwise are winning it? This is just one more way our star is such a more personable guy.

A guy KD’s size has to be super athletic to do the crazy dunks and win something like this. Dwight Howard, Kemp, etc. Serge Ibaka is a much better big guy to get into the contest.

3 point contest should be something that KD try. Just look at the Horse Game last year, he basically drained 3 pt shots after 3 pt shots to win it after the game time was expired...

Russell Westbrook is the best dunker on our team.

A guy KD's size has to be super athletic to do the crazy dunks and win something like this. Dwight Howard, Kemp, etc. Serge Ibaka is a much better big guy to get into the contest.

i love KD and don't doubt at all that he can do better dunks than the boring one's we saw this year.. and i love his humility this year in turning down the invitation, saying that others were better at it.. but like others have said, Russ and Ibaka should be in the dunk contest.. i could see either of them winning it.. definitely our two best dunkers.. i also agree that KD should be in the 3 point contest.. i think he'd have a real shot of winning it..

No one does dunk contest type dunks in a real game. KD needs to release some teaser video of the dunks he tries in practice.

Yeah, we have better dunkers on our own team. I don't think this event is for him. I think KD could be good in the three point competition, though. He has an easy release.
