Eh, call me naive, but I don't like comparing these guys to bad guys. I like the Beaubois choice though. He was almost a Thunder, but just not quite. And he's real fast.

And Steve Nash is in Alpha Flight. Like, Puck or something.

I always pictured Kobe as Doctor Doom. Zach Randolph as Juggernaut. Roddy Beaubois would make a good Quicksilver. Steph Curry as the Silver Surfer.

<a href="#comment-82858" rel="nofollow">@Osano-Whoa</a>
Yeah, mostly I was trying to stay as mainstream as possible with these. I mean, most people don't know Banshee or Strong Guy or Longshot, even though they are all definitely cool characters. I tried real hard to fit in Deadpool, but just wasn't able to make it fit...

I do love the Serge/Juggernaut comparison, but since he's mostly a villain, I didn't go that direction.

I mean, there are so many awesome X-Men and only so many Thunder players. Off the top of my head, here are some mutants I didn't use, that I probably should have: Rogue, Jean Grey, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Angel, Jubilee, Emma Frost, Psylocke, Mimic, Polaris, Havok, Sunfire, Thunderbird... heck, even Namor, Cloak and Dagger, Sabertooth have all been members of the team. But I had to cut it off somewhere. :P

While writing, I even started comparing other teams' players to characters from other Marvel teams. Dwyane Wade has to be Spider-Man. LeBron is Thor. Kobe is Iron-Man. The Dallas Mavericks are the Defenders (so many great players that never really amount to anything important). Maybe I should start my own blog. A Daily Thunder Spin-Off.

I'd like to say that I'm happy to have this article out there, because it opens the door for me to really let loose with the full on nerdiness for a future article about my love of the team.

Couple of characters I'd switch out.

Jeff Green - Longshot

Longshot isn't particularly powerful in anyway except that he has luck manipulation powers that he can't control, which allow things to just go his way when he needs them to. Just like green getting the incredible play at the end of the game. Saddly Green does not have a shoulder length blonde mullet.

Kevin Ollie - Banshee

To quote Wikipedia, "Banshee was always a decade older than most of the X-Men and had only a relatively short tenure as a full-time X-Man. He was, however, a mentor of the 1990s-era junior team Generation X." I mean seriously.

Serge Ibaka - Juggernaut

Hey, he was on the team for a while. Also, to quote Wikipedia again, "The Juggernaut is described as physically unstoppable once in motion, does not tire from physical activity and is able to survive without food, water or oxygen."

Nick Collison - Strong Guy

Alright this character technically was a member of X-Factor and not the X-Men, but as Collison is the only holdover from the old Sonic days I'm going to overlook that. Strong guy's powers allow him to absorb kinetic energy from things like being punched, or let's say taking a charge, and then use it to make himself stronger.

My only problem with the entire article is KD as Cyke. Mainly because I've always thought of Cyke as kind of a whiner who got the girl who was out of his league (really, tell me you weren't cheering for Logan to get with Jean. Tell me you weren't). KD is mr. hard work. I suppose, of course, the problem then comes with who KD would be. Marvel wise, I'd go with Cap'n America. Yeah, 'nuff said there.

Seriously, guys. Thanks for the positive feedback. I wrote this up mostly for myself, because I thought it would be a kind of fun thing to do, and I never really expected this response. Clearly there will be some disagreements about some of the comparisons I've drawn (I expected a lot of confusion about the Serge/Kitty thing), and that's kind of the point, I guess? It's a weird discussion to have on an NBA blog comments section, but so far, it's been cool. :)

<a href="#comment-82828" rel="nofollow">@Lindsey</a>
Next will be KD as Buffy, Russ as Xander and Scotty Brooks as Giles. I'm thinking, in this context, Serge is Oz.

<a href="#comment-82835" rel="nofollow">@Frootloop</a>
Not at the moment, I'll let you know. ;)

I feel completely ashamed about this typo. One of the very first Trade Paperbacks I bought as a kid was the Dark Phoenix Saga (which I was able to get autographed by John Byrne), where Kitty was introduced (also, Dazzler!) and she's been one of my favorites ever since. I love the way Joss Whedon writes her in Astonishing X-Men. This is an inexcusable mistake on my part.

wow. I guess I'm the real nerd/outcast for not being into comics/D&D/etc. That's okay! I really liked the article. I read comics for about 5 min about 15 years ago. Not my thing, but hey ... totally cool if it is other folk's. Very well written.

I think I would buy a tshirt if one were made (HINT HINT), just because, if done right, would be BAD ASS.
