Friday Bolts – 4.2.10

KD is ‘cool’ with being in the MVP race: “Nah, it’s pretty cool,” Durant said in Boston on Wednesday night. “It’s cool, man. A kid like me, coming from where I came from and how I’ve grown as a player, for people to say that I’m in the talks for MVP in the NBA, that’s something I never really dreamed about. Never really envisioned it. It’s pretty cool, but at the same time, it’s something that I’m not worried about.”

Henry Abbott yesterday writing that Eric Maynor matters: “And watch the highlights above. There’s Eric Maynor connecting on a huge fourth-quarter lob to Kevin Durant in a win in Boston Garden. It’s not like he’s an MVP candidate at this point, but he’s a rookie not just getting minutes but also producing at point guard for a really good team that also has blue-chipper Russell Westbrook at that position. Maynor’s a young player the Thunder trust, and he shows a ton of promise.”

If you haven’t tried Hollinger’s playoff simulator, give it a go. It only took me 21 tries to get the Thunder a title.

KD’s response to Garnett’s criticism: “I can care less, it was a great win for us, I respect kg’s passion.”

Hollinger looking at who the Lakers want to avoid: ”The Thunder own one of the best individual defenders in the league in Thabo Sefolosha. The Spurs don’t have quite as good an arsenal, with Keith Bogans the most qualified candidate. So San Antonio would be the preferred opponent in this situation. Size up the three categories, and I think it’s clear the Lakers don’t want anything to do with Portland, and wouldn’t be real excited to face Oklahoma City either.”

On NBA.com, Kevin Durant is dominating a poll asking who should be runner up in the MVP vote behind LeBron.

Thabo and Jeff Green were on NBA.com’s Five on the Rise: “It’s easy to look at the box score from OKC’s win over the Lakers last Friday and see Russell Westbrook had 23 points, Kevin Durant scored 26 and Kobe Bryant just had an off night (11 points, 4-for-11 shooting). What’s lost in simple stats, though, is the masterful defensive job Sefolosha did on Bryant to spark the Thunder’s blowout. Keep in mind that in the previous three OKC-Laker matchups, Bryant had burned Sefolosha and Co. for 32.3 ppg and put up 40 points on them earlier this season — and L.A. was 3-0 in those games. It was a nice redemption game for Sefolosha (and his reputation as a defensive stopper) as he kept after the Lakers’ star the entire game, staying on the ground as Bryant threw every head fake and batch of footwork he could at Sefolosha. In the end, Bryant had nine turnovers (two shy of his career high) and even he had to admit that Sefolosha was a big reason in his struggles that night.”

John Schuhmann of NBA.com names Thabo to his All-Defense Team: “By now the secret is out that the Thunder are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. Nick Collison has the best on-court defensive efficiency in the league and Kevin Durant’s defense has improved dramatically from last season, but Sefolosha is their designated stopper. He’s done a particularly good job on Wade this season, holding him to 40 percent shooting in the Thunder’s two wins over the Heat.”

Magic Number Watch: Still sitting at one for the Grizzlies. They play tonight against New Orleans.

Russell's tweets say that he hangs with Serge and Harden quite a bit.

yeah i know but i would like to solidfy it tonight and serve a beatdown on dallas tomorrow night

DOES ANYBODY HERE WANT MEMPHIS TO LOSE

justin :@Alexfromgermany

Ugh. I guess I’ll have to listen. I hate Simmons’ voice.

Agreed. Even Simmons hates it. I remember being SHOCKED the first time I heard it. It just doesn't gibe with his writing style at all.

Ugh. I guess I'll have to listen. I hate Simmons' voice. :)

@josh You are the most hilariously agnsty poster on this site, your glum defeatist approach is usually good for a chuckle. However, we don't discredit what anyone is saying based on the name next to the comment, but when you start of by saying we wont listen to you... well, we aren't going to.

and they go on praising the thunder for minutes...delicious!

On the new BS Report, Jared Dudley says that Durant is the toughest guy in the NBA to guard

But the good news about our schedule is that 4-4 is enough for us to reach 50 wins. Minnesota and Golden State should be a win and Memphis won't be playing for anything

For thunder to reach finals!

Took me only 7 trys on the playoff simulator.

justin :Seriously, there’s nothing better than watching a Celtics broadcast when the Celtics are losing. Tommy Heinsohn is the best.

So true. I was just revelling the other night while I was watching that game. And I don't particularly dislike any of the Celtics' players or the team itself, I just loved all of his complaining. Weird feeling.

I've looked at the schedule countless times, but I get shocked every time I do.

The next two weeks are by far the biggest test the team has seen. Five out of eight games vs WC playoff teams, three back to backs, eight games in 12 days… 3-5 is a real possibility, I’d be satisfied with 5-3, and if OKC goes 6-2 or better I’m whistling into the playoffs.

I may have missed this from an earlier post, but has the organization released how they are going to handle postseason ticket sales? I remember that they will be somewhat higher in price, but I'm just curious how they will release them for sale.

As an aside, I saw that Memphis is losing Gasol and Brewer (I think) for the season. I think that pretty much takes care of them going undefeated.

james hardens beard :it just came out that KG got fined $25K for criticizing the officials. i hope they put that money towards buying a LOT of kleenex for the whole city of boston.

@james hardens beard

easy... ive been a celtics fan since 9... however... all of the talk radio ( 103.7 WEEI) consisted of callers whining about the refs manlove for KD and not giving paul pierce or rondo those calls....

I actually called in to the radio and told them i was a thunder fan and i had a pretty heated discussion about which pg would you rather have??? i said my boy westbrook of course and they picked rondo because he is best for that team... but i think that westbrook could thrive in any situation... and also their were some problems with rondo's attitude earlier this year... have you heard anything from westCROOK i dont think so

finally after 53 tries thunder beat the magic in the playoffs...

it just came out that KG got fined $25K for criticizing the officials. i hope they put that money towards buying a LOT of kleenex for the whole city of boston.

@f5alcon

Probably just SRS.

@chuck
Holy crap you're right. I didn't realize it was that bad. Shut up Boston. 11 fouls in 26 minutes!

And I'm rooting for Memphis tonight. I want to clinch in Dallas. It's a lot more fun to clinch by watching a win than by hitting 'refresh' on ESPN.com

i wonder what critera it uses to determine winners, seeding seems to matter heavily.

I played the playoff generator 20 or so times and almost every time it was the Lakers or Cavs. The Mavs snuck in a couple and the Suns got 1. The Thunder never made it past the second round.

I knew I was a jinx.

Got us a title!!! Beat Dallas first round, then the trailblazers, nuggets in the conference finals nd boston in the final!!!!

I guess we need to start a twitter campaign now.

@Vince
That would be 11 fouls in 25 minutes for Collison and Ibaka.

@Mark!
I'm on board with this idea.

I can only hope Nick Collison becomes a commentator for the Thunder someday.

Tommy Heinsohn is what Nick Collison would be if he starts doing Thunder games in forty years.

Seriously, there's nothing better than watching a Celtics broadcast when the Celtics are losing. Tommy Heinsohn is the best.

@shiki=4 seasons
The C's had a couple of reasonable gripes on calls in the 4th quarter, but got a few in the first 3 (hence, Collison and Ibaka combining for 11 fouls in what 40 minutes?). It definitely wasn't enough to play the "refs lost the game for us" card.

If there's any year when a couple of lower seeds could make the WCF, this is it.

There's a lot of parity out West--if the Lakers fall in the first round, which is not outside the realm of possibility--who knows who's gonna make the WCF? I could see any of the 7 remaining teams going on a hot streak.

Went to Boston this last week. Got to watch the game on their feed - I have to say, Tommy Heinsohn is unreal. He couldn't believe they called a foul on the rip move. Good stuff. It was worth winning the game just to listen to him complain.

But, on the way home I was on a plane with some people from OKC. I thought I remembered someone on here saying they were also going to be up there, so maybe I shared a plane with some other Daily Thunderers? that would be kind of cool.

I got us to the finals. To get there we played Utah, Portland and Denver, lost to the Magic in the finals. Pretty good showing for the Northwest, I'd say.

I download the game 1 hour ago,and I dont know why do they complaint.They use passing ball to beat us easily,get many open shots and easy balls. it cannot draw fouls

I haven't gotten the playoff simulator to show OKC winning the title yet, however I have seen us lose to the Lakers in the WCF a few times.

The Bolts today were quite uplifting. However even if the Lakers want to avoid OKC I would like OKC to avoid the Lakers as well. Given a choice though, and even taking into account their recent struggles, I would rather see the Thunder against LA than Denver

And i meant to say dont listen to me but whatever

That was me about the fan vote

Good News guys. According to the my experience with the playoff simulator, if we play the playoffs 5 times, the Thunder will win the championship over the Cavs.

So Denver seems like it got some of its mojo back...

I wonder if after a while the team starts to turn Karl's health into a collective purpose instead of a distraction/hindrance.

Anonymous :Fitting that New Orleans has the opportunity to put us in the playoffs tonight. That would be a nice return on investment.

I like this quote.

im not sure if dallas will come out hungry after last nights loss or just tired.

@KingGondo
NM, thought the Dallas game was tonight. OK, go Hornets!

@KingGondo
Woo. Glad you like it. I think they're pretty sweet.

While that would be nice, I fully expect to see us clinch the spot ourselves. :D

Feel pretty confident about tonight, actually.

P.S. Got my "WHY NOT?" shirt yesterday, Royce. Very nice, probably my favorite one so far.

I tried at least 50 times on that simulator yesterday. Alas, no trophy for the Thunder. However, we made it to the semifinals in my first try. That has to mean something right? RIGHT?

best bolts ever. thabo finally gets some love.

I love KDs response to KGs 'thoughts' on the game. Adding that little compliment at the end...ahhh. I hope the kid stays here forever!!
