Another “Sea of Blue” planned for Game 6

This isn’t the biggest news in the world, but I thought the “Blue Out” was tremendous for Game 3, and I’m pumped the Thunder is bringing it back for Game 6. No word on what the shirts are going to say or if they’ll have anything smaller than an XXXXXXXL, but we do know that they will be waiting for you on your seat and they will be free.

However, this time there won’t be pom-pons or towels. Instead, we’ll all get THUNDERSTIX. See what they’re doing there? Thunder. Stix. It’s just too perfect. Though those stupid things can get awfully annoying when the kid sitting next to you doesn’t stay within his own personal space zone and let’s the buggers fly all around. Yes, I have dealt with this issue before.

Also, the national anthem will be performed by native Oklahoman, Leona Mitchell, an internationally acclaimed opera star. The Enid native has performed in the greatest opera houses of the world, including stages in New York, Paris, Rome, London, Madrid and Sydney. In 2001, the Grammy Award-winning soprano was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.

    HA HA! Us OU fans DO hate those two shades of orange,(Poke and burnt) but tolerate Thunder orange.

    Seems the White Out made us perform better. AND LA couldn’t concentrate enough to shoot free throws. All the white behind the backboard confused them.

    Good news!! There should be tickets for under $50 on Stubhub by Friday. This is almost a certainty with over 800 tickets still available. That is just too many at prices near $100. Prices are sure to drop further the closer to tipoff we get. They have dropped over 30% so far. Be patient and stick it to the scalpers!!

    So pleased the shirts are blue, NOT orange!!! A red(orange red) like the original logo would be very nice, but not orange – it’s too…….. something that several Oklahomans do not care to wear. Besides, very few people look good in orange.

    Orange is the reason I didn’t but the tree and leaf James Harden shirt. That color is not allowed in my house, except the slight amount on the Thunder logo, or in juice form. I like OJ.

    You guys are making me laugh with your “revulsion” to wearing orange. The Thunder and their colors have NOTHING to with either college program. This is the NBA, people. The big time. Not college. I could understand if the shirts were Lakers colors.

  22. April 28th, 2010 at 21:07 | #22

    @PNT
    It’s not a college thing, it’s an Oklahoma thing. OSU fans wouldn’t want to wear red either. Am I right?

    they could have had navy, grey, or orange. I wonder why the chose blue again. Oh, well as long as the THUNDER kicks some butt I dont care what the fans are wearin. I got my blue shirt!! Its funny how u see Laker fans creepin on our Thunder pages they must be gettin scared!!!!GO THUNDER!!!

    I say we go after Nene

    April 28th, 2010 at 22:11 | #27

    @The DON
    I don’t see them blowing up the team just yet. The main reason they are playing poorly is because of Georg Karl’s absence, not because they don’t have talent. Besides, Nene is one guy they would probably keep even if they blow up the team.

    Nene’s arguably their best player this year (yes better than Carmelo). No way is he traded..

    Krstic has gotta go. He’s weak inside and has Teflon for hands. Every time someone passes to him in traffic, he turns it over. Plus, at 7′, he should be dunking in close. Instead he attempts a layup and ends up getting rejected. Keep in on the bench. Collison and Ibaka are a great duo.

    I think it’s a sign of growtth and respect that we have our own troll. And a Lakers troll, no less. Sure, he’s rather unimpressive–too relient on cliche and personal attack–and perhaps some of you are already thinking of trading him away (not in this economy!) Perhaps it would be better to give him time to develop. Maybe let him troll a few 66ers games so we can get a better idea of what we have.

    @DizzyDai

    Basketballs are all orange, unfortuantely. And yes … if Durant signed one, I’d keep it and display it with all the rest of my sports autographed stuff. In OK, if someone is wearing an orange shirt, they are almost immediately associated with OSU. Mainly because it is a god-awful color that most normal folks wouldn’t wear. If you are wearing Orange in OK, you are either an OSU fan, a prisoner, or going hunting. That orange is a very minor color in the Thunder logo is fine. Because it is so minor, it wouldn’t make sense to do an “Orange Out” Red is a pretty common color, so if someone is wearing red in OK, they aren’t immediately assumed to be an OU fan. Orange is just different.

    When I lived in Texas for a bit, part of the culture shock was how bitter the rivalries were between UT / A&M or UT / OU, etc. It went beyond sports into something weird. Almost palpable hate from some people I knew. Is OU / OSU the same?

  39. Terry
    April 29th, 2010 at 09:22 | #39

    @justin
    My life long observation of the in-state rivalry is: yes, it sometimes goes beyond sports into daily life and culture. Of course not for every fan of the two universities, but certainly in our state’s pop culture.

    For many of the past years, I think the hard core animosity was mostly on the OSU side – absolutely couldn’t stand anything associated with OU. Mostly this thought was due to the lopsided football series between the two that overwhelminly favors the Sooners (81-16-7). Couple that with OU’s national success along with the occasional overbearing Sooner fan and OSU acrimony is understandable.

    The last decade or so, though, OSU has pulled off some surprising victories against the Sooners and their fanbase has now risen up. Along the the vastly improved facilities they now enjoy, Cowboy fans don’t sit quietly like they used to, and therefore OU fans now want to pour it on even more.

    And that’s where we stand today. Thunder Basketball is the first opportunity to bridge the wide gap. It will take some time, but I think it will happen (would good natured ribbing still alive) in regards to this team.

    I think you are delving way too deep. I just think the color orange is ugly. Plain and simple. :)

    April 29th, 2010 at 09:27 | #41

    In my opintion, no. I’ve lived in both Tx and Ok most of my life and personally witnessed the rivalries between TTU/A&M and OU/OSU. As I see it the TTU/AM goes deep through every facet of life. The OU/OSU rivalry typically stays in the context of sports and not personal “hatred”

    NBA Rumor Talk: Chris Bosh to The Thunder?
    by Josh Dhani Senior Writer Written on April 24, 2010 The latest rumors among the offseason that is coming is of Raptors’ PF going to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

    Oh, whoops, let me rephrase that really quickly: …is of former Raptors’ PF going to the…

    Yes, Raptor fans, Chris Bosh will be leaving Toronto. He’s done a lot there and I know you probably will miss him. But Bosh needs a team that can take him to the playoffs. I know Toronto was close, but face it, he’s leaving.

    If Bosh wants a team to take him to the playoffs, the 2010 NBA Free Agency is where he should look into. And for him going to the Thunder, it’ll be the perfect fit. A lot of things can happen with Bosh in OKC.

    First of all, he’ll play in an important role with Oklahoma City, who consists of skilled players like Jeff Green, Russell Westbrook, and of course Kevin Durant. Bosh will just be the key to unlocking a team that has sure bet into the playoffs.

    The Thunder made it this year with over 50 wins.

    They can reach for 56-60 now with acquiring such a player like Bosh. Bosh can score from a lot of places, he’s fast, strong, and somebody you can rely on. He’ll be a happy man in Oklahoma.

    Not so sure on Toronto, though.

    But as the rumors go, Bosh still wants to leave Toronto. But don’t get excited Knick fans, because I don’t know if Bosh wants to go there either. Because as of right now, the Knicks aren’t a playoff team, though they are greatly improving.

    But how do we know if the Knicks do in fact make the playoffs for the upcoming season? That’s why Bosh should go to the Thunder, who have a better chance.

    But the question is, if the Thunder do land Bosh, where will he be?

    Will the Thunder keep Russell Westbrook at PG and move Durant to SG? Then Jeff Green goes to SF and Bosh goes to PF? Or will the Thunder will have their normal lineup, but instead, replace the Center spot with Bosh.

    There’s many possibilites and lineups OKC can arrange. The Thunder can acquire Bosh. I think Bosh will like it here.

    We’ll see what happens.

    But for right now, let’s enjoy the playoffs.
