Kevin Durant is good at the basketballing

An incredible stat that was flashed on NBA Fastbreak last night: Over the past 20 seasons, Kobe Bryant holds the record for most 25-point games in a season with 68 (2005-06). Michael Jordan is second on that list with 67 (1990-91).

On Tuesday against the 76ers, Kevin Durant had his 65th game of 25 points or more. And guess what? KD still has nine games yet to play. It’s a very, very real possibility that Durant will score 25 or more points over 70 times this year. And he’s only in his third year. And he’s just 21 years old.

Think on that one for a bit.

@Rhett
jordan first did it at 21, his rookie year 75 games of 25+. but he took 200 more FGA to do it. Jordan broke 60 games of 25+ 8 times and had 59 games twice.

lebrons best is 64. most years he is at around 53

@Aenema
Yeah it was a little sneaky. They announced it right after the game last night so I didn't want to throw it up as its own story. Just bad timing.

@Royce Young
Ah, I missed it in there. Well done.

That stat is pretty darn impressive, no matter how you slice it.
Can someone come up with a more complete list maybe?

I can just imagine all the Portland haters trying to dismiss this: "Well, he gets 30 FTA every game from all the superstar calls, so of course he scores a lot!"

Dirk is my homeboy, but KD is my favorite player.
What he's doing at 21 is ridiculously awesome.
Jordan did it 75 & 76 times? How old was he in those years? 25? 26?
Durant's going to be flirting with this record for years to come.

There's a SN poll at the bottom of the page on http://espn.go.com/nba/notebook/_/page/Awards-1003... asking who should be behind LeBron on MVP watch. As of 3:10pm CT, the result is 57% KD, and the only places in the world he isn't carrying are California(Kobe) and Florida(Howard). He's gettin' some love the world over.

goota wear my durantula shirt today after reading this......

Aenema :Has there been no mention of officially signing Mustafa Shakur to the remainder of the season?

Didn't read the Bolts today, eh?

I paid homage to Durant today @ Hideaway Pizza.
They had a "make a free throw, win your lunch" contest. I did the shoulder shimmy (in suit/tie) and swished it for two large pizzas.

Thanks KD.

durant on last nights game
“It’s big to see fans with the Oklahoma City jerseys on,” Durant said. “I don’t care if it’s my jersey. I care about Oklahoma City jerseys. I know a lot of the jerseys were for me because I had a lot of family here. It was extra special to get a win here.”

@Aenema
i hadnt seen that it had happened even.

Has there been no mention of officially signing Mustafa Shakur to the remainder of the season?

@f5alcon

Modern era is post merger, the game started slowing down a little bit, defenses got a little better, and it resembled more what we see today especially after the 3pt line.

Most stats you see before 1976 should be taken with a grain of salt..

@Jax Raging Bile Duct
They overlap too, it is pretty difficult.

shot clock era is 1954-55 season or later(lowest scoring game occurred before here)

3 point era 1979-80 or later, i would also say this is the start of the modern era, but it could also be the nba/aba merger that starts the modern era. which was 1976. But basically post wilt. He owns so many records otherwise.

hand check rules are complicated
hand check was barred in 94, forearm in 97 but contact except in the post in 1999 also were the ability to impede screens and reroure players off the ball, take your pick of years for which really affected defense the most. 2001 defensive 3 second was added.

@justin
yeah, he would have to go 84/87 the rest of the season. to make 90%

This discussion reminds me, I need a list of all the eras, and when they started.

Modern Era, Shot Clock Era, 3 Point Era, Hands-Checking Era, etc...

I'm not even sure I know all of the eras.

@f5alcon
Yeah last night's three misses hurt.

@justin
thats probably why they did it, but it was espns stat. Even still durant could end up with 74 games which would be 2nd best in the modern era.

Unfortunately it looks like he's not going to make it to 90% FT :(

@justin
I don't know, that's just what the stat was. 20 is a nice round number, so it's good I guess.

Royce, was it really necessary for you to make me have an orgasm at my desk at work? Can you please hold off on posting such sexy stats/facts until evenings when I'm home?

Have some decency

Why the last 20 years? To exlude Jordan doing it 75 and 76 times in 87 and 88 respectively?

It speaks to Durant's consistency but when you're scoring 30ppg you're going to have a lot of 25+ point games naturally. I think his scoring efficiency (still over 60% TS) is much more remarkable..
