Kevin Durant by the numbers during the streak
Kevin Durant’s awesome, amazing, incredible streak of scoring 25 or more points in a game wrapped up last night with *just* 21 points against San Antonio. It was 29 games of unbelievable offensive efficiency. And probably 29 of my favorite games ever in my short time as a Thunder fan. The team played great, Durant was unreal and we saw some of the most inspiring individual efforts of the season. The best part is, KD is just 21 years old and this is probably just one of many, many incredible streaks. But let us reflect on this one, by the numbers:
32.4: Points per game KD averaged
23: Number of games Durant topped 30
9: Number of games Durant topped 35
3: Number of games Durant topped 40
20-9: The Thunder’s record during the streak
2.9: Assists per game
7.7: Rebounds per game
11: Number of double-doubles
9: Number 0f 30-10 games, something KD leads the league in
2: Number of times Durant scored exactly 25
64: Days it lasted
50.8: Field goal percentage for KD
50.0: 3-point percentage for KD
89.9: Free throw percentage for KD
190.7: Number on the 180 Shooter scale
940: Points scored by KD during the streak
282: Points that came at the free throw line
314: Free throw attempts
10.8: Free throw attempts per game
30: Percent of KD’s points that came from the free throw line
596: Field goal attempts
1.58: Points per shot attempt
45: High point total during the streak
Golden State: Best game during the streak (16-21 from the floor, 45 points, 11 rebounds)
Dallas: “Worst” game (9-28 from the floor, 25 points and 14 rebounds)
29: Times I worried the streak was going to end
31: Most shot attempts in a game (overtime loss to the Spurs)
14: Fewest shot attempts in game (Twice, once against Chicago and once against the Knicks)
7: Number of straight 30+ point games KD had during the streak
1: Number of players that have scored 25+ in consecutive games more than Durant
Michael Jordan: That guy’s name
2.39: Price of a gallon of gas when the streak started
Barack Obama: President in office when the streak began (Isn’t this how every “by the numbers” thing wraps up?)

The 20 points per game streak lives!
@Anonymous
Excellent point. We should make sure that KD has some sort of streak going at all times through the rest of his career.
hey idk if im the first to mention this but my boy hasheem thabeet is going down to the D-League… i dont no if i want him anymore if he is gonna take this long
Yes: Answer to “Will KD repeat and break this streak some day?”
1: Number of players that have scored 25+ in consecutive games more than Durant
That’s actually not true, that’s just since they’ve been keeping track of such stats (which hasn’t been that long).
@DSMok1
Well, that’s what the record book officially says, so that’s what we’re going with. I think Wilt had a streak of 30 points around like 65 games or something.
@DSMok1
well the other 1 is some guy named wilt chamberlain… nba is divded into wilt and post wilt
Wilt bribed the refs by not sleeping with their daughters. No fair.
Nice write-up. We’re fortunate fans to get to witness something like that.
@Royce Young
I think they call that streak a career…
Wilt scored over 25 points every game in the 1962 season.
Well we have 15 more years of this hopefully ill be around to witness the rest
Wilt scored w/ at least 2 women/day during the entire 1962 season.

Can you guys believe that Thabust is the highest drafted player ever to get sen to the D League? WOW!! Now that is under-achieving.

@Cpt. C-Note
Wow, the Grizz also offered Mayo and Thabeet for Ellis and were turned down? I don’t know which franchise is dumber, Grizzlies for making the offer or GS for turning it down.
GS no doubt, they would get as good a complimentary player next to curry as they could and Thabeet can still be a defensive precense in the future, especially for the warriors who shoot the ball before their center gets over halfcourt anyway so he wouldn’t be disruptive on the offensive end =)
@gunnar þór
Well Mayo is already a better defender than Monta, and is a much better shooter. Thabeet wouldn’t be much more useful there, but at least he’d be a tradeable asset. Mayo would be cheaper and a better fit than Monta, Thabeet could be dumped or developed.
This would be my ideal offseason:
Trade for Andris Biedrins: I love how he seems to be in Nellie’s doghouse now. History has shown that players that are in Nellie’s doghouse are usually dumped for far less than what they’re actually worth. Also, most of the guys who have been in Nellie’s doghouse are actually good players. (Jamal Crawford, Marco Belinelli.)
Judging by past trades the Warriors have done for players in the doghouse, we could probably get Biedrins for a package of Krstic, Collison, White, and the lesser of our first-round picks. We could also absorb Brandan Wright and/or VladRad for them as well. In my opinion, that would be the best possible trade we could do this offseason. Sure, it would hurt to lose Collison, but there are several guys who will be free agents that we could sign to play his role.
Draft: We could do several things in the draft. Assuming we trade one of our picks to GS in the Biedrins deal, we would have one early non-lotto pick to use. I’m not entirely sure who will be available at this point. I’m thinking that the best option might be to just take the best available player.
Free agency: More bench scoring is a must. A good bench scorer who won’t require a lot of minutes would be ideal. Rasual Butler, Devin Brown, and Rodney Carney are possibilities. A bench PF would also be nice. Hakim Warrick and Craig “Rhino” Smith, Kris Humphries, Lou Amundson, Joe Smith, and Matt Bonner are all going to be available. And a designated three shooter would be good as well. The aforementioned Matt Bonner, Steve Novak, and our own Bob Vaden are options.
That’s actually not true, that’s just since they’ve been keeping track of such stats (which hasn’t been that long).

They haven’t been keeping track of PPG for that long? The disclaimer attached to the streak is that his is the longest since Mike’s. You’d have to look harder, but there’s gotta be tons of homies with longer streaks than MJ’s.
Jeff Green called him Urkel.

@Kevin
There is. In fact, KD is the 4th forward to have 25+ for 29 straight games. The others had more. They use MJ as the mark for the “Modern Era”.
@Vega
As an ideal, I think we can do better. Ideal would be landing Bosh, getting Lee at a reasonable price, or stealing Gasol. Biedrins is a great rebounder and weakside blocker/help defender; however he’s not a legitimate offensive threat nor a strong man-defender. His age, contract, and rebounding are enough to make him a good pickup, but I’m not sure I’d give up more than Krstic and picks, especially given how little GS actually seems to want him.
wow, so glad we didn’t draft thabust. Royce – can you make a “our GM is better than your GM” t-shirt? i bet it’d be the first GM t-shirt ever!
I have a feeling that even though Nellie hates him, it’ll take more than expirings to acquire Biedrins. If you’re proposing trading for Biedrins before the draft, Nenad Krstic cannot be included because he has a player option for next season. It would have to be Collison.
Also Thabeet’s far from done, he’s a 23 year old rookie who started playing ball at age 15. Way too early to call him a bust..
@justin
Collison or Krstic, I suppose either works. I still think we should be lowballing GS for Biedrins, at least until better options are off the table.
I think that would have the opposite effect
Extorted by threatening to, I should say.
oh ok yeah.
@Keith
This is ideal because it is realistic. The only guy on that list that we have a shot at is D-Lee, and there are going to be many, many teams trying to sign him. (Although he did say that it would be fun to play in OKC, which is a good sign.)
I forgot about Nenad’s player option. Would we be able to use our cap space to absorb the difference between Collison and Biedrins’s salaries, as well as VladRad’s contract?
I’m not too concerned about Biedrins’s defense or his offensive effectiveness. For starters, he’s spent his entire career on a team that doesn’t give a damn about defense. I think the coaching staff could help him out is that department. As far as his offense goes, that is no problem. It’s not like we would need him to be an offensive juggernaut. All we would need from him offensively would be to get a few putbacks, and catch a few lobs from Maynor and Russ.
