Monday Bolts – 1.4.10

The Miami Herald said Scott Brooks was the NBA’s Coach of the Month for December: ”Scott Brooks, Thunder. thunderbolt23Oklahoma City has been the most impressive young team in the league by far. What the Thunder has done under Brooks is proving to be no fluke, with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green leading the way. The Thunder ended December with a victory against Utah on New Year’s Eve that pushed its record to 18-14, good for a third-place tie in the Northwest. And Oklahoma City’s nine road victories at the end of December were tied for third most in the conference.”

I don’t care about these sort of things, but some will. Evidently one of the contestants on the new season of The Bachelor is a member of the Thundergirls. Who? I don’t know: “Christina, a 25-year-old restaurant manager from San Diego and Valishia, a 32-year-old homemaker from Carlsbad, will compete for Pavelka’s affection against a member of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder dance team, a corporate flight attendant, a mortgage loan officer and a captain in the Air National Guard.” UPDATE: Here’s who it is (h/t Elegy444).

Darnell Mayberry sees the Bulls’ course as cautionary tale for the Thunder: ”The “Baby Bulls,” which Chicago’s riveting young roster came to be known as, were expected to someday do big things. That day never came, and Chicago ultimately began running circles around itself over the last decade, hiring and firing coaches and bringing in and shipping out prized pieces. Chicago’s course now seems to serve as the chief cautionary case for the Thunder, which faces the Bulls at 7 tonight inside the United Center.”

Eric Maynor doesn’t care about your menu: “Man we go to cheesecake factory and @emaynor3 ask for fried chicken and cheese fries..WTF”

The D-League Showcase is this week and Draft Express previews it. On their potential call-up list, two 66ers are there.

Video of Russell Westbrook’s awesome follow-up slam against Milwaukee:

Nate Jones of FanHouse relates Twitter to a bar: “Twitter has quickly become the NBA’s version of Cheers. You know, the place where everyone knows your name and they’re always glad you came. No, Twitter isn’t some fictional sports bar in Boston, but it is a virtual sports bar where NBA fans, players, team personnel, player agents and NBA writers all congregate to talk about the sport. The NBA recently released a tool called a “game companion” which you keep open while you’re watching the game. However, everyone in the know understands that the real game companion is located at twitter.com.”

This came out Friday, but I doubt its changed – KD up to sixth in the Race to the MVP: “Can you believe that Durant has the Thunder on a four-game win streak? It’s not only the most successful stretch of Durant’s career, it’s the best win streak the Thunder-Sonics franchise has enjoyed since 2000. Durant has been incredible, averaging 35 and 7 over the past three games. Even better, he is shooting lights out. He has made 27 of his last 41 shots.”

Bryan :My wish for tonight…. solid games from Green and Harden.

That is my birthday wish as well. Perhaps it will come true!

Dylan :@f5alcon

I think I’ll make an awesome “Geico Show Me The Money” sign and when I get on the big screen, I’ll flip it over and there will be a message declaring my undying love for her. This is foolproof.

haha, that would be hilarious/creepy. I think just talking to her and pretending that you arnt interested in her looks at all might work, she probably gets hit on all day long, just need to stand out and be different.

I wonder if any of the thunder girls are actually single, maybe some of our members who are nice upstanding guys should be dating them,lol.

@Mully Mulls

I think my aunt knows her...

I can't believe Berly (Kimberly) is on the Bachelor. She was on OU Pom the same four years I was on OU Cheer. I am shocked!

Omar :I just listened to the 2 part nba podcast by Simmons and he didn’t mention OKC or KD a single time. Kind of surprising.

it was a great podcast, and you're right they didnt mention the Thunder but . . .

a) they were squeezing two months of conversation into two hours . . .

b) KD is one of his favorite players . . .

Dylan :And if that Thunder Girl in the competition is Riane, I’m going to be so devastated. That’s my unrealistic crush, you bastards.

I hear ya! Mine is definately Megan Johnson. Her effervescent personality coupled with those sultry sweet looks just helps to reinforce the fact that it's not really a man's world afterall!

@Dan2
I think Russel needs some kudos too, but I didn't wannna jinx the phenomenal strides he's made, by posting them like you just did. :-)

@crick
Let's hope Thabo is on a mission tonight.

translation – I wish those two guys would show up . . .

Yeah, pretty much. I almost wonder if the added competition from Maynor had a negative impact on Harden... I can't see any other reason for such a dramatic change.

Chris Silva points something out:

"Monday will be Thabo Sefolosha’s first game back in Chicago since the Bulls traded him to Oklahoma City last February"

Interesting.

Though I must say your wife appears to have a good choice of friends... you know.. Thunder fans :)

@Royce

Oh jeeze now Dylan is going to be stalking Royce to get more info from his wife about the woman of his dreams....

Yup would have kept that last bit a quite royce :) hehe

Turns out Kimberly (the Bachelor contestant) used to be on OU's pom squad and is a friend of my wife. Weird.

well if she loses she comes back and you can comfort her after losing on the show

Dan2 :I just looked at Westbrook’s stats over the last half of the month and it is really impressive. 4 straight 10 or more assist games, in his last 5 games, he is avg 9.8 A’s to only 1.6 TO’s, and in his last 10 games, only Paul and Kidd have a better A/TO than his 4.78. I think he is really getting it, he is shooting less, around 3 shots less, than during our big loosing streak. I think that he deserves more praise than he is getting, we were all down on him when he wasn’t passing enough and shooting too much in the first half of the month, and now that he is learning and adapting more, he needs a scoop of praise. We’ll see how long it lasts, and granted is been against easier teams, but he has dramatically decreased his turnovers, from 3.8 in Nov and most of last year, to 2.5 in Dec, and 1.6 in his last 10 games.

excellent post . . .

@Dan2

Russ has been playing very well lately..

don't have much to say still recovering from the new years eve game ;)

crick :I think our boys will be on fire tonight. Chicago, say goodbye to your win streak!Despite their recent wins (and admittedly, beating down Orlando was impressive – but we did that too), I don’t think Chicago is that good of a team this year. We are the better team, IMO. And we’re playing well on the road. And our coach ain’t looking over his shoulder.Go get ‘em Thunder!

not the same thing – we beat Orlando when they were missing several starters . . .

And I would say the Thunder have improved since then…

I was just elaborating on his point that "we have beaten Orlando as well" . . .

you can't use that as support if you don't include the fact we really faced a different Olrando team that night . . .

I think you should just go down and ask her out... just be sure to have someone record it :)

@f5alcon
Wow, that's a nice stat. That Maynor deal will sting Utah for a long time to come.

I look at this roster and see a championship-quality back court now.

@Dylan
Premonition = wishful thinking

lets hope for a nice bounceback after that loss, maybe harden or green will actually play decent, only having 2 players in double figures makes it tough to win even if RW/EM combine for 17 assists and 16 rebs from the PG position.

@kev
Which is the other lesson from that article. That a young talented core is resilient enough to fight through management drama.

The continue to surprise and I for one would not be surprised to see them back in the playoffs again.

A Thunder victory tonight would signal the beginning of a new rivalry to me as the Thunder try to overtake the Baby bulls as the "it" young team... With both squads being so young and talented, the rivalry could last. I also think there is a brewing rivalry with the Kings.

@Bryan
I don't see the Bulls ever letting go of Noah, but he seems to me to be the perfect center for us. Doesn't need the ball on offense, hustles on the glass, blocks shots and isn't a stiff.

Is Mayberry talking about the Bulls team with Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry? I don't see how that has anything to do with us at all. We've accomplished more in 1/3rd of this season than that roster ever did. Do you think Sam Presti is going to spend 65 million or whatever it was on the equivalent of Eddie Robinson? Doubtful.

@Joe
Right? I had high hopes for Ibaka based on limited video of him playing in Spain, but I figured it would take a little more time to get him on the court.

I'm also (slightly) encouraged by the fact that Bryon is no longer "Mullen" around in the D league.

We need to be ready - the Bulls are on a roll, as they have won their last four games - the last was against Orlando . . .

I think the key lesson from the "Baby Bulls" is that eradicate front office behavior can be problematic for young teams. Thankfully, Presti and Co. don't have that problem.

It will be interesting to see how Russell 2.0 plays tonight. Rose has managed to get the better of him in their last couple match ups.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Noah play, since he will be on our roster soon (premonition).

And here we all thought Serge would spend all year in the D-league learning english and which basket to shoot at. And I personally thought DJ White, and Etan Thomas would be in the rotation a little bit. Not.

I don't know if anyone noticed this but I have not seen it mentioned. The Denver Nuggets are without Billups, Melo AND Anderson for at least a few more games.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=479343...

Given that the Thunder are only three games behind them in the Northwest standings, I'd say that's of interest.

"Coach of the Month: Scott Brooks, Thunder."

Not Vinnie Del Negro?

@Elegy444

sure you were "bored".... :P

Is that why that curly haired girl disappeared?
