Behold… The Durantula
January 26th, 2010
As I mentioned in the Bolts, the store is stocked again with shirts so if you missed out on a Zombie Sonics or Go Green tee, run and getcha one. But also, today we’re putting out the newest design. As Tree and Leaf put it, “Let me introduce you to 8-Armed Velvet Hoop, Kid Delicious the Vicious, The Web-Slinging Junkyard Dog himself: THE DURANTULA!”

You just wanted an excuse to say Junkyard Doy since you’re a big Demarre Carroll fan.
It’s ok though, so am I.
Love the shirt. My only complaint is when you have to pay 10 dollars for shipping, making it 32 bucks, I would love to get it in under two weeks, which didn’t happen on my other three shirts ( ok, not scientifiec, maybe they came in 12 days, or 13).
*Said while ordering in another window
You da man.
Thats what I get for bitching, took time off to complain and now my size is gone. Karma
@Royce
Awesome shirts Roy Roy, got stopped a few times in Oakland to explain my boy’s club shirt.
I’ll have to stop by Tree and Leaf later and check this one out. Really like the artwork.
Royce, is it available for Canada???
@555
Yeah, if you’re international, the best thing to do is call the store. They’ll just take your order over the phone. Their site doesn’t support international orders yet.
Can somebody tell me where the store is?

There is a map on that page.
Thanks, Royce…
does anyone know if the players have seen these shirts? i now that KD, Green and Harden would get a kick out of that Broingtons shirt, and KD would love that Durantula shirt i’m sure.. those guys are always on their facebooks and twitter, has anyone sent them a message with links to the shirts just for them to see them? or you could send them a few shirts, courtesy of Daily Thunder..

And also, KD and Jeff Green had shirts as their Twitter backgrounds for a while. Safe to say, I was excited about that.
Royce, that’s awesome! KD looks pretty excited about that shirt.. and really cool to hear that they had those as their backgrounds.. thanks for letting me know!
Only smalls left of the Durantula shirt… Bummer
Actually from what I can tell they are almost sold out of all of them already. Some smalls and the occasional mediums are still available.
Holy crap they’re out of the KD shirt already?
If you wanna double check the shirt sizes versus what we have in store, I would say call (405 728 2026) or twitter us (http://www.twitter.com/treenleaf) and we can give you an update or hold the shirt for you specifically (if you can come in within a 48 hrs). These things moved a lot faster than we expected, again.
Thanks for being patient with us, you guys are great, and we’re very glad you like the shirts. We are very complimented by the success of these shirts and the great commentary you send us. Thanks DT readers!
I realize I’m way behind the times here, but is there any particular reason why the Zombie Sonics shirt is so popular? Obviously Zombie Sonics is a freaking sweet name, but is there a more subtle reason OKC people like it? As a (former) Sonics fan I’d think you’d want to distance yourselves from Seattle rather than having a constant reminder. Just curious.
@johnnycougar
I think it is an act of defiance more than anything. Also takes the sting out of the hater-speak!!!
@johnnycougar
The phrase itself is from Bill Simmons.
I can’t speak for all OKC fans of course. But if you want my take…
I guess when you’re not as closely tied to the Sonics team emotionally, such as OKC fans, the humor in it is not objectionable. I would imagine a Seattle resident and Sonics fan wouldn’t find it so funny.
Simmons has always backed Seattle, which is just fine. He’s also been decent when addressing OKC people, and never took pot shots at our lifestyle or intelligence. He also has a way of at least pointing out the humor in most situations, even bad ones. That’s the sentiment that wrung true for me anyway. A way to make the best of a bad situation.
It’s also got a bit of the “self deprecating as a badge of honor” thing going on. And I can appreciate that, as a kid who had to grow up on the wrong side of the tracks.
I have the NWA shirt and it’s basically a hit anywhere I wear it.
I’m pissed that I didn’t realize the Durantula shirt was for sale today. I’ll get it next time. Meanwhile, I did order a Broingtons shirt, so it’s all good.
You know, I can understand why they ran out of shirts the first time. But how many times is this that they’ve ran out? I know they’re nice guys and all, but how many shirts could you have sold if you had a reliable supplier?
@Jax
Thanks man
@MartzMimic
i think it’s a good ploy, keep demand up for a while

I don’t find it objectionable, like I said it’s a great name! And I love that Simmons uses it all the time. I guess in a way it’s kind of a compromise: Sonics fans take bitter solace in Simmons refusing to call them the Thunder, and Thunder fans get a kind of ironic or “self deprecating” cool nickname. My initial impression (at least from last year) was that OKC fans were upset that Simmons didn’t address them properly and so I was a little surprised fans have adopted the nickname. But your explanations make sense.
Whazzup with “The Durantula”? This is a rip-off of a pretty well-known rock guitarist out of Chicago, IL. He’s had this moniker for more than 20 years (KMFDM, The Waco Brothers, Slammin’ Watusies, REVCO, etc.). No, I’m not a basketball follower so help me out here. What gives?
@Dave
It’s a nickname for Kevin Durant. I’ve never heard of The Waco Brothers or Slammin’ Watusies, so I don’t think it’s a rip-off.
@Royce Young
is this shirt coming back?
