View from the enemy: Rockets Buzz

If there is anything to know about this game, it’s that Nick Collison is going to see his first preseason action tonight. The Thunder has struggled slightly on the glass with him out thus far, so hopefully with him back he can help right that. OKC was one of the better rebounding teams last season and Collison was a big part of that in his time off the bench.

Also, one big thing to keep in mind is that this is the first game of a back-to-back. Back-to-backs are a big part of maneuvering an NBA season and so I’m sure Scott Brooks will have a mind toward that. Another thing is I’d love to see a little more fullcourt pressure. I think that’s an interesting wrinkle to toss in and even light pressure can cut into an opponent’s possession time big time.

We’re winding down the preseason and this is the first of just three remaining primer games. Then it’s on to the real deal. So you want to see solid improvement and a sharpening tonight. No setbacks as we head toward opening night.

Tip at 7:30 CDT. Go Thunders.

Might mention that Budinger might have been playing with a but of a chip on his shoulder. Remember, the Thunder worked him out several times, and some thought that might signal us taking him on draft day.

So I guess Budinger will make the All Star team as well.

I think they found a player they love more than Brooks.

Ibaka did not have a good game. Sad face.

Man, Serge just looks horrible in the post. I haven't been able to watch any games this preseason - does he have any moves besides a ball fake followed by a fade-away? I like how active he is though, and he gets back in transition even though he's crashing the offensive board.

we sucked that third quarter. no rhythm to the Offense.

@Jax Raging Bile Duct
I don't think he's good for anything other than being a mentor, if even that.

I am not impressed with Kevin Ollie tonight.

What an ugly last five minutes.

I was waiting for them to accidentally call Oden "Sam Bowie" but no such luck

@Royce

Lol... but "there's no way you can stay in front of Aaron Brooks"

Both announcers thought Durant was the top pick. Greg Oden, everybody!

Ha! They forgot about Greg Oden.

they just said Durant was the first overall pick. I'm turning off the sound

We're getting killed with cuts to the basket.

#1 pick in the entire draft really?!?!

lol who will get their foul faster... Nick or Serge?

oh them referring to Durant as our first, second, and third option I found hypocritical with their anemic offensive line-up

I think these announcers may jump out from behind the scorer's table and start fellating Aaron Brooks. It's getting that ridiculous.

@Royce
I have learned that great players are not necessarily great commentators. And that our duo is better than Houston's. At least we aren't calling for Thabo to be an all-star.

Our perimeter D is a little suspect tonight, Brooks is burning Russ time and time again.

They've said that about Aaron Brooks like four times. I'm probably getting ahead of myself with Westbrook, but they're REALLY getting ahead of theirselves with Brooks.

Aaron Brooks as an All-star? hahahahaha

not trying to go all crow here but...

YR FG% OFF DEF REB ASST STL BLK PTS
2004 .520 3.50 6.54 10.04 .91 .94 1.66 11.96
2005 .531 3.51 8.95 12.46 1.52 .79 1.40 15.76
2006 .603 3.45 8.84 12.29 1.93 .85 1.90 17.60
2007 .599 3.40 10.76 14.16 1.34 .90 2.15 20.67
2008 .572 4.25 9.58 13.84 1.42 .97 2.92 20.56

Yeah he was a double double guy coming into the league but it wasn't till his third year when he increased his fg% almost 10 points from 52-53 to 60 and points per from 10 to 17

Russell Westbrook could be an All-Star. I'm serious. I am so impressed with how controlled he is, even when he's going 100 miles an hour.

I absolutely LOVE the way Russell Westbrook is playing so far. That pass to Jeff Green is not something he would have done last year. He wouldn't have sensed the cutter. I love it.

Red Nation is much better than Thunder Up, i might convert

Fred Lazo Insurance is becoming as irritating as SandRidge Energy commercials.

these announcers are killing me

you would think after a year people would know the team is in Oklahoma

@Ezellion
Dwight Howard would be a terrible example, he came in as a double double guy from the get go. If you want to compare how much better players get, compare Dwight to Lebron or Wade. Wing players generally make huge strides in a lot of categories in their first couple few years. Big men start much higher and make more incremental improvements (assuming they are actually seeing the floor their first few years).

Or perhaps Dwight Howard would be a better comparison.

I have always heard it takes bigs 3 years to aclimate to the NBA. Just look at Andrew Bynum

Coaching he does need, but we differ on the understanding of the transition of bigs in the league. He defintely didn't look good by not gaurding the basket, that I agree with.

@GAP
From what I understand, big men normally have the easiest transition to the NBA. They might need time to perfect their craft, but their game has the smallest change. They are still giants who spend the vast majority of their game in a much smaller area than guards. Also, big men are almost never asked to facilitate the offense, so their ability to read defenses and react isn't as big a factor.

I'm not giving up on Mullens, I was just shocked to watch a professional player literally stand around in open space on defense without an opponent within 15 feet. He wasn't even guarding the basket, he was two steps out of the paint and halfway between the baseline and three point line. He is going to need a lot of coaching.

We have almost no perimeter D at all.

Don't give up on Mullens yet, sure he needs some time in Tulsa, but it takes bigs more time to adjust and play well in the NBA. Also it took Harden a few games and more minutes to get comfortable, although he's not a finished product.

Keith :
There’s no way Mullens gets out of Tulsa on the strength of his play thus far. I just watched him guard nobody for an entire possession (literally just hopping around in place with his man across the floor) and then have no idea where he is supposed to be on offense yet.

agreed. Mullens has a LONG way to go to be a serviceable center.

I know Kevin Ollie is just a 3rd point but he has looked terrible this game.

Holy Cow Jeff Green, way to make me eat my words!

@Dan
Jeff Green still seems like he's in offseason form

1) Durant could stand to move more on offense. That said, he just carved up the defense and kicked out for a sweet shot. Also, he got doubled in off a screen because he didn't use it properly, but I like that he didn't try to take the double team by himself and passed off to Ollie instead.

2) Defense is a little strange. I'm not a coach, but does it seem like we get beat (more than other teams) by just great shots? There has to be something lacking in the defense for it to happen, but it seems like opponents just shoot with more confidence against us even if we are playing solid D.

Durant is looking in mid season form with his shot. I also like his passing.

If you get League Pass then it's on channel 751 on direct tv just to let you guys know

Yikes, why did Ibaka try to face-up when he had a size advantage? Uggghhh

I can't get the website to work. anybody have any suggestions?
