Saturday Morning Cartoons: There is much to learn from this man Russell

(Hello and good day my friends and family. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. Go out and seize the day or some crap like that.)

With a week of training camp in the books, one thing we’ve all hoped for this offseason (and in camp) is for Russell Westbrook to evolve into more of a floor-leading general of a point guard. Become a guy that controls the game. Own the ball. Take leadership in your position. And honestly, I’m not sure how many people out there are better to learn all that from than Mo Cheeks. If he can teach it as well as he did it, then Westbrook will take quite a leap this year. Observe the fantasticness that was Maurice Cheeks: Point Guard. Maybe that was Step 1 for Russ – pop in some game film of coach, grab a notepad and let the learning begin.

There sure is a bang of head-butting over the last few bolts!

I just wanna get along and talk B-ball, yall!

I sure hope that RW can get some "floor-general" tips from Mo, when it comes to the last 6 mins. in a close one. Last year we seemed a bit timid and unsure of what to do with ourselves when it counted.

I don't think Kevin's initial post was at all troll-ish. Anybody could think that Cheeks wasn't that great of a coach. Just because someone was a great player, it doesn't mean it can translate into great coaching. I think when Kevin first started commenting, it was about how freaking awesome this site was.

Oh, and I really hope he is wrong and that Cheeks kicks ass at coaching Westy!

@Floppy Punch!
You win. Best. Screen name. Ever.

Of course he's a troll. And about as effective as the Save Our Sonics campaign.

@Vega
I wasn't trying to be mean- well, maybe just a little bit mean, but I am honestly puzzled by his purpose in coming here. Guy seems pretty sharp. Not rabidly anti-Thunder. Just really negative. End of the day, you are probably right.

@Steve H
The best thing to do with guys like him is to ignore them. If you don't give them attention, they will leave.

@Kevin
I can't tell if you are a troll, or just really negative in general. The logo makes me think troll- but as trolls go, you seem pretty uninspired. No fire. No angry pronouncements concerning Bennet's relationship with satan or Oklahoma's shallow gene pool. With that said, you are invariably making some negative comment on the Thunder franchise- an odd thing to do if you come here because you are a fan. Do you remember the "Debbie Downer" skits on SNL, and the music (WUHHNN, WUHHHNN, WUUUHHHNNNNN) that would accompany each of her depressing observations? I can't help but hear that theme music every time I read one of your posts.

Of course, in all fairness, it is always easier to be a great point guard with Dr. J and Moses Malone to pass to. Oh, and Andrew Toney too...

But I get your point: he was slick. He can't but help our youngin' RW.

I am excited to see if Westy can keep the turnovers down this year.

@Royce

Yes, agreed. But he worked more so hands on with all his point guards.

Either way, the point Royce is making is, IF Russel can learn anything from him as far as being a pg, then OMG we might have one heck of a season this year. Go Thunder!!!

If you actually look at the teams Mo coached the PG play regressed the longer he was there.

he was a great PG, a great man, class act. But he can't coach.
