Joel David and Katie Kurtz both have voices that do not broadcast well within the arena. I hate to be a Debbie Downer b/c I was not a “Jonathan” fan but the new team possesses just a dash of annoying-sounding-voiceness.

Don’t you know that every time you mention “Thunder Up!” you’re supposed to include an exclamation point for emphasis? That’s how they say it, anyways. I’m Thunderin’ Up! right now just thinking about Thunderin’ Up!

I almost had to ask my wife to slap me when during a halftime report I, without thinking, starting singing, “Everybody get with me…Thunder Up! Thunder—wait, what’s going on?! What am I doing? Nooooooo!”

Thunder Up is growing on me. I mockingly asked my two year old if he could say “Thunder Up” and he did, with a lot of gusto, pumping his fist in the air as he said it. It reminded me of “Thundercats, ho!” which no one in my generation would dare to disparrage.

Of course, that’s also the problem with Thunder Up. It’s built for kids. Then again, cultivating a younger demographic would speak to the team thinking ahead to the long term success of the team in this region.

If we can generate enough sentiment against “Thunder Up”, I’m sure they’ll change it. If OSU fans can get “Cowboys 4Ever” changed (a campaign with WAY more behind it), surely DT could spearhead a movement to change that silly cheer.
