Countdown to Camp: 10 best games from 2008-09: No. 7

No. 7: Durant gets the best of Oden in round one

For some reason, video of this game doesn’t appear to exist on the Internet, but I know it happened. I was there. And while it wasn’t especially close, it was the most fun I’ve ever had at a basketball game. The Thunder played one of its best games, Kevin Durant showed up Greg Oden in their first meeting and remember when Jeff Green busted the net? That was awesome. Well, except for the part where we had to sit and wait for 15 minutes while it got fixed.

Durant had 31, Nick Collison put up a double-double and Jeff Green had 20 and nine. The Thunder shot 50 percent from the floor, won all four factors and basically ran Portland out of the gym in the third quarter. Looking back on my old recap though, this part sticks out to me:

Three random things: … The Ford Center has maybe the worst carbonated beverage selection in the history of the world. I never get stuff at sporting events because I’d rather not spend $95 on a pretzel, nachos with yellow slime and a cup of ice with a little Mountain Dew around it. But here’s what they have: Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist and Mountain Dew. Holy crap, talk about selection! Where’s the Grape Fanta and Crystal Pepsi? I realize arenas sign deals with soda distributors, but this is Oklahoma. We like Dr. Pepper and Coke. At least give us more than four options. When the lady told me my choices I wanted to say, “Well sheen lady, Sierra Mist? Why don’t you just pee in a cup and charge me six bucks?” How have they not taken advantage of the obvious choice and brought in Dr. Thunder? And so what that it’s Sam’s Choice brand, that stuff is delicious. It’s so syrupy I have to chew it. It’s like drinking motor oil. But with a great, almost Dr. Pepper taste. Am I the only one that cares about this?

So I would hope with all this renovating and new crap that’s been done to the Ford Center, that maybe the drink options have been updated. Not for me, because I won’t buy them regardless. But for the kids. Isn’t that what it’s all about people?

First, Pepper on ketchup is Awesome. And second I dont know if it is the ice or the syrup, but Sonic drinks always taste awesome to me!

And on a side note, These people in Chicago dont believe me when I say that we sometimes say "coke" to refer to "pop"

Chicken Express in Norman serves Dublin Dr. Pepper.

It's for real. I lived in Dallas for a few years and that's how I found out. It's only sold in a 44-mile radius from Dublin, but it's not a far drive from DFW. You can buy it online now, but I prefer the road trip. Bootlegging's more fun anyway.

Oh... just saw the link... I always thought it was bottled in Plano, and YES! It is always better in that part of the country. You learn something new every day! Also, since we're way off basketball now, does anyone else REALLY taste 23 different flavors? All i can taste is caramel colored, bubbly awesomeness that can't be described, but no individual flavors...

@Rhett
Is that for real? I might just have to try some of that in March when I scurry on up there. Where are you from?

@Royce Yeah... I couldn't get enough of the ketcup either... does anyone else put it directly on the tray? I can't stand those little shot cups that they try to make you use... it just gets in the way! I also put pepper on my ketchup but most think I'm weird for it.

Dublin Dr. Pepper is still the best way to go. Original formula = :-)

@Mully Mulls
I've always thought McDonald's had the best ketchup too.

@Nix
Obey Your Thirst.

For some reason I always want to drink Sprite when thinking of the NBA.

I hate Sprite.

Great marketing to NBA fans though.

Speaking of kids... Does Dr. Pepper EVER get any better than from McDonalds? It seems like they have the magic formula to make you want to get your best friend to hold your feet up at the fountain station! Good thing we have those here in Italy, unfortunately nothing here is 24 hours...

Good news. I saw a Coke truck driving today, and on the back, it had an advertisement for the Thunder. Hopefully that means your prayers have been answered Royce...
