The first ever Daily Thunder MockTest

Who wants something free? Well, if you do then get ready to join the first ever Daily Thunder Mock Draft Contest. Basically, it’s simple:

  • Predict what happens with both the Thunder’s first and second pick. 10 points awarded for nailing the first, 15 for nailing the second. 5 points if the player is taken one spot (on either side) of your pick.
  • You can predict a trade, but don’t try and include players. But you do have to predict who OKC traded with. That counts as getting the pick correct. (Example: If you think OKC trades either it’s pick or the player they are drafting, just put “OKC trades third pick to Toronto.”)
  • Also, select ANY four other teams (except one can’t be the Clippers) and predict their FIRST ROUND pick (if the team has two in the first, just pick one and specify the number). Trade predictions still accepted. 10 points for nailing it, five for being within one on either side. Doesn’t matter what teams. I’d advise against Orlando though. They don’t have one.

Highest point total wins something wonderful (and gets acknowledged for being smarter than all of their Thunder peers). Maybe it’s a Chucky Atkins banner. Maybe it’s courtside season tickets. Maybe it’s Major League II on DVD. The only way to find out is to enter and win. Second place may or may not receive a congratulatory email from me. We’ll see how I feel that day.

Email your picks to royceyoung41@gmail.com. I promise I’ll be fair. Unless your last name is “Young” and you happen to be my wife. Then all bets are off.

will post mine here as well . . .

    Top 5 Mock

    1) LA Clippers – Blake Griffin (shocker)

    2) Memphis – Ricky Rubio. He’s the second best player in the draft. Yes it seems he doesnt want to play there, but I think they draft him and trade him. I have no idea to whom they will trade him, and I’m not going to speculate on that – too many possibilities.

    3) OKC – Stephen Curry. Curry will surprise people and prove to be a very good point guard in the NBA. Westbrook is not a true point guard and will slide to the 2.

    4) Sacramento – Assuming they don’t trade for Rubio, I will guess that they draft Tyreke Evans. Udrih has been unimpressive at point to say the least.

    5) Washington – Again, assuming no trade, I like Jonny Flynn here. Arenas is hurt every other day, and Flynn can score and dish.

    #25 – Nick Calathes – Presti stashes him away for a rainy day . . .

    sorry – can’t read, I need another pick . . .

    #6- Minnesota – James Harden slips to here . . .

  9. Keith
    June 22nd, 2009 at 14:50 | #9

#2 Memphis – Hasheem Thabeet. Memphis doesn’t have a strong enough front office to fight it out with anyone. Until they are sold and move, no one will want to be there, and for good reason. With that, they take that which no one else in the draft can get, a 7’3″ defender. This way they can pretend they are building a contender and ship out Gasol 2.0 if he starts getting uppity.

#3 Oklahoma – Ricky Rubio. OKC picks up the second best player in the draft at 3 because they take heed of their own first rounders: talent first, fit later.

#5 Washington – Trades 5th pick to Pistons. The Pistons need a new young core, Washington needs vets to win-now. It’s a match made in NBA heaven, where one team wins big and the other wonders what might have been. As to which team feels which way, it’s too early to tell.

#8 New York – Stephen Curry. After falling past Sacramento and Minny, both looking for pass-first PGs, he ultimately falls to the perfect location. In time people will become enamored with his shot and assist totals. But, just like Nash, people will wonder how good he is outside of the system.

#11 New Jersey – DeJuan Blair. Out of left field comes a perfect compliment to an up-and-coming team. Blair does the nitty gritty on the offensive glass and muscling guys in the paint, leaving Lopez to become even more effective. Draft experts consider this a reach until they remember that Jason Thompson was considered a reach last year. They then praise this pick saying, “This is a MAN, and he can really bring the toughness this team needs.”

#25 Oklahoma – Taj Gibson. Need a good rebounder who can play center? Need a player who will focus entirely on defense and block shots? Behold Gibson, the second coming of Theo Ratliff. And by second coming, I mean of post-30 Theo Ratliff. He won’t wow you, but he’ll make you say, “How did this guy go so low?” from time to time. One day people will talk of him as if a legend.
Thunder Fan: “Remember when Taj had 12 blocks in one game? That guy was a monster.”
Random Fan: “I always thought he was just a watered down Ben Wallace”
Thunder Fan: “Shut up, man, Taj laid the hammer down for 15 solid minutes a game.”

You have two hours after the draft completes to send your picks in.

Just kidding. I’ll take them up until the final minute before the draft starts.

    3. We take Harden
    4. Kings select Evans and trade with Memphis
    5. Wizards take Hill

    7. Warriors take DeRozan
    8. Knicks take Thabeet

  20. June 22nd, 2009 at 19:40 | #20

    2.) Memphis-Rubio (he’s the “best avalible” and trade-bait)

3.) OKC-Harden (perfect fit for us!) & 25.) OKC-Omri Casspi (just seems like a Presti move)

4.) Sac-T. Evans (tough and big)

5.) Wash-Curry (lots of upside here!)

    6.) Minn- Flynn (I’d take ‘em if I was a T-wolf fan)

it’s funny – I look at a lot of threads, and WE are more negative on Thabeet than most . . . interesting . . .

#3 – James Harden (unless you can really get some assets in trading down, you take the tiered approach here, picking the best player in your biggest area of need…and that’s Harden hands down)

#25 – Omri Casspi (C-Note is right, this is a guy you can draft and not immediately have come over and who can still develop in Spain; great backup SF to Durant as he’d be the gritty compliment to Durant’s smoothness)

    Toronto #9 – Demar DeRozan
    Bobcats #12 – Terrence Williams
    Pacers #13 – Dejuan Blair
    Pistons #15 – Earl Clark

  29. Kyle
    June 23rd, 2009 at 08:51 | #29

#3 Harden: We have had 3 interviews with him, as well as seen 2 workouts, vs. Rubio (the only other player I see us drafting unless we trade) who we have only sat down with once, reviewed a contract and physical.

#25 Josh Heytvelt: Presti Loves guys with 2 position talent, and he is still working on his potential after an injury hindered him. He has a lot of promise shown by his Soph year and I’d love to see him in a Thunder Uni. Probably wrong but I have no idea what we are doing here. To be honest I think we trade this away from something smart haha.

    Toronto #9: Demar DeRozan
    Sac #4: Tyreke Evans
    GS #7: Jordan Hill
    Pistons #15: Earl Clark
    T-Wolves #6: Curry

It’ll certainly be interesting if Memphis does take Rubio after all the drama and issues. That would definitely make the draft and weeks afterwards more interesting.

    @Cpt. C-Note

    @Dustin
You guys should take it easy on the Thabeet bashing- you are going to feel silly after Presti prys him away from Washington for our 25th pick and some contract swaps that give them some tax relief. Just saying.

    June 23rd, 2009 at 14:10 | #33

Hey I’d be fine with that. Actually, I’d be thrilled with that. As long as we get Harden/Rubio/Curry, we could take Taylor Griffin next and I’m cool.
