Saturday Morning Cartoons: Scott Brooks goes coast-to-coast

Remember when Scott Brooks played basketball? I really don’t, seeing as I was like six at the time of this clip. I do vaguely remember him playing for Rockets during both of their title runs, but I more remember Sam Cassell’s alien skull over anything else off that team. And how Robert Horry looked just like the Fresh Prince. And oh yeah, Otis Thorpe. What an old-sounding name. But I’ve always heard about what a scrapper Brooks was and how he kind of was to basketball what David Eckstein is to baseball. And this clip really shows it. He looks like a little kid when he breaks away for a fast break layup. Legs churning, that blonde mop on fire and dang determined to put the ball in the basket. I like having a coach that played with such a hard-nosed style. Makes me confident that he can pass that sort of mentality on to other players.

Basketball wallpapers... for that wall that you just don't know what to do with!

Trying to scrounge up info on what Krstic is up to... this is tough!

Found this, however. Evidently he and his girlfriend Tanja attended the wedding of Darko Milicic, a little over a week ago:

Although this is a couple years old, here's a link with a pick of Nenad with Tanja:

(use translate.google.com, or similar, to read, but Serbian to English translation is very rough)

At last! A Jeff Green sighting. Man, that guy just about disappeared after the exit interviews.

Jeff made an appearance today at the Bethesda Big Train’s baseball game.

But the announcement is from several days ago, so no one has posted any pics of Jeff at the event or what he did/said.

This is a short but sweet photo set:

Taken during the last home game against the Bobcats. The Jeff Green dunk pic is worth the price of admission alone.

This link is kinda fun:

Put in your name, or others, and see what info pops out. Best (as in wacky) feature is 'your personal power animal'. Kevin Durant's power animal is the 'Chinstrap Penguin'! (???)

Uh-oh, a possible big man FA?

Heh, the definitive Scott Brooks player pic:

Apparently, Chucky Atkins is tweeting here:

Guess he's preparing for his post NBA life. This article gives a glimpse:

Brooks just seems like a "working-class" kinda coach. I think he did a great job of keeping the team focused on not going through the motions on a "bad team", and leaning what it's going to take to grow as players, and a team, to make strides in ALL phases of the game. i.e. Team Defense, smart ball movement/distribution, knowing the weaknesses of opponites and exploicting them, LIMITING TURNOVERS in key situations, ect...
I have nothing but faith in our team, from Clay Bennett to the cool old-dudes ushers at the half-time bar! (You know who I'm talking about, right!?)

@Pennington
Oh that's just silly. Oklahomans are not single-minded morons. Also, keep in mind that in OKC itself, about 50% or more of the population these days is people who've moved in from other states or other countries. It getting pretty cosmopolitan.

@daniel
Football is king, always will be. Brooks cannot come close to the idol that Stoops is regardless of how well the team does. Even Phil Jackson or Larry Brown would take a backseat to Stoops and the juggernaut that is OU football. Maybe in 60 years, if the Thunder becomes one of the most dominant franchises in NBA history, then Basketball could compete with football. Until then Oklahoma City remains the domain of college football.

Poor Stacy King. He got poster-ized by the mailman.

Why can't the draft be tomorrow!!??!!??
Imagine the lineup of:
Bayless
Ray Allen
Kevin Durant
Rashard Lewis
Nenad Kristic
I think that the lineup there would have been great. Playoff material. The way we got Bayless is after Durant's rookie year we would have gotten a worse pick like Bayless instead of Westbrook.
We could have definatley played like the magic with 4 people who could hit 3 pointers.......

There's one another thing I noticed after the season ended. It's a little thing. Probably silly. But I noticed it - maybe others did too.

After giving their exit interviews, including the obligatory nods to the great fans of OKC, the players began to scatter across the map to their "real" homes. Made me just a teeny bit sad, because I know that OKC is not considered a home to them yet, just the place where they work.

I look forward to the day when some (heck, maybe even most) of the players actually consider this place their home. Sure, they will go to other parts of the country for events and recreation, etc. but then always come back to home sweet Oklahoma.

Yeah, I know, it's a silly thing. And too soon. The team hasn't even been here a full year yet. There hasn't been time for anyone to plant roots yet. But I hope it happens. For example, Collison adopted Seattle, even though he's not from there. In the same way, others could adopt OKC. It will be up to the community to keep growing and improving, which I think it is already doing - the downtown projects, core-to-shore, etc.

Anywho... just something I've thought about.

One thing that I love about Scotty is how he's taken to the city and embraced OKC as his new home. Sure, he pretty much had to live here, given his job requirements. But he's made it clear that he enjoys the town and is settling into his new digs. Unless his coaching stint crashes (i.e. the Thunder don't rise as everyone expects), he's going to become a local celeb on par with Stoops. Maybe more so, as he's more accessible.

@Joe
"Brooks has some short stubby little arms."

But he has a brilliant personality!
